About
Best burger in Petaluma, hands down! Pork tacos were also especially delicious. Service was great too. Definitely check this place out!
We made reservations for my birthday 9 th March at 6.30 pm. We arrive at 6.25 pm & the waitress take our order for food & drinks for 2 people with in 5 minutes. I ordered red wine & my husband a corona & a starter salad each & 2 tacos for the main course. Not much to choose from in the drink section, would expect much better wine for the price & not to be served in a jam jar ! We waited 30 minutes & no starter salad came Saw 3 tables ahead of us still waiting for their food also so we decided that it would be probably another 15 minutes until we get our starters. The kitchen seemed to be having problems with the orders- no food coming out !! Maybe they were short on cooks?? Any way, big disappointment for us. We paid for the drinks & went somewhere else. If the wine had be better, I might have stayed!
Two of us went to Butcher Crown on a Sunday morning, arriving right after they opened at 11:00 so the place was fairly empty. It was nice and quiet. The menu didn't have a large selection of offerings but what they had sounded interesting. We ended up getting the Butcher Burger and El Tejano (only available on weekends). WOW!!! I was told the Butcher Burger was the best burger in Northern California - and it looked like it. I had the El Tejano and it was awesome. I would have like the bun to have been a little bigger (can't believe I said that - how often does that happen) but there was so much brisket and onions and other good stuff piled on the bun it got a little messy. We decided to get the Bistec Quesadilla and split it as an appetizer. It, too, was awesome. The steak, onions, poblano combo with the cheeses and sauce they use is incredible. We had half of it left over to take home and enjoy later.
We both had the fries with Old Bay seasoning as sides. I'm from Maryland - born on the Chesapeake Bay and weaned on Blue Crab - I've had a lot of Old Bay seasoning. We both thought the fries were a little salty and would have preferred a lot less Old Bay. And we both managed to finish the fries.
Bottom line, the food was outstanding. The service was excellent. We're looking forward to our next visit and taking some friends with us.
We had been looking forward to checking out this place and glad we did. We got there right as it opened. The service was friendly and the food was amazing. We started with the Caesar which in my opinion could have been a bit more creative in presentation but I then had the Puerto Rican chicken stew and I’m still thinking about how delicious it was. My partner had the pork which was also amazing. The portions were good sized so we took home leftovers. We were even given an extra libation on the house due to the frier not being ready for our fries, so that made things much better. AND the fries came soon after! We’ll set be back on the weekends for BBQ!
The food is excellent. My real critique is the menu. Its a little over the place. Two street tacos for 9 bucks and no sides doesn't belong as an entree. It's an app. Some squash app at a self declared Roadhouse? Doesn't really fit. Other menu items are on the same boat, not consistently playing on the theme. Also think that putting more to beer on tap,
and develop a pub feel could do well.
Very good dinner. Exciting dishes. Not the usual tacos and hamburgers.
The BBQ style food is a little fancier then we are used to with extra stuff added that we didn't realize was normal or for some. The rice with my food was luke warm to cold. My husband's burger was good; however the price seemed a little high for what you get and the temperature of the food.
I was excited to try the restaurant. I went with my wife and another couple. Our portions were small with no wow factor. The sides were bland. Glad I tried, but won’t come back.
The fries were all small pieces as if it was the bottom of the cooker at the end of the day. The bun was a bit too small for the burger.
Mole enchiladas were outstanding! Other diners with us had the brisket tostadas and they enjoyed them but a steak knife would have been helpful - the tortilla was a little tough. Another that the burger, which was also excellent. Really enjoyed this new take on the restaurant!
Terrific food - the chef visited us afterwards to introduce himself -- which always really nice.
This will definitely be a regular spot for us - we look forward to returning soon. Very nice outdoor area as well that will be great when the weather improves...
We loved the Cochinita Pibil Tacos - the smoked Pork was wonderfully flavorful! The shrimp tacos were good, but I would have loved to have some slaw or such in them, needed a little more flavor to make them amazing.
The Service was great. Quick and friendly, with several people checking in with us.
We will be back!
Great tasting food, nice people, creative menu! The mole enchiladas were excellent! Have you considered a corn only tortilla for gluten intolerance as an option? Just a thought. Love Butcher Crown!!!
Still dreaming about the 'Brisket Enchiladas with Mole Sauce'. Excellent!!
Family friendly and the Sunday 3-course dinner was a great value for all of us. Food was very good, as well.
Excellent "latin flair" BBQ. Great, innovative menu that was delicious. Try the shrimp or bistec tacos. Parking can be a real challenge during peak times.
One complaint, many kudos! Ventilation, it was smoky inside for first 20 minutes of a 40 minute meal. Seriously, not normal smoky. Dude at the door was friendly. Atmosphere was cool. We went as a couple, but have four kids and loved seeing happy families. Server was super cute, friendly, timely, all the good stuff. This is what I've been waiting to say ... the butternut squash goat cheese thingy. Haven't stopped talking about it for weeks. Enjoy!
Thought that the meals were outstanding, great flavor! Would have liked to seen a side besides french fries.
A really great addition to the food scene in Petaluma. Chef Guttierez takes great care in the finishing and presentation of his creative Latin style barbecue. I loved how his finishing/presentation prep table is right on view in the dining area.
Friendly staff and the service was good. The menus is certainly an eclectic blend of food styles and although I was ambivalent about my entree selection it’s only my first visit. I will come back to check out more selections they offer.
Loved it! Ate here for my boyfriends birthday dinner and had a wonderful time. We will definitely be back with more friends.
Excellent food, great flavors and nice people! We had the beet salad with peppers exquisite flavor Also one of us had the burger, great taste, really nice size. The pork tacos have an amazing flavor. The Piri Piri chicken was very good as well.
The food was excellent and staff was really helpful. This is a brand new restaurant so there are some kinks to work out but you can tell it’s gonna be a good one!
Lovely flavors in a rustic family setting. Very Friendly service, and made us feel right at home immediately. Will come back for dinner for special occasions & lunches during the weekends. Can’t wait to see what the chef prepares the next time I’m there!
Thank you
It was opening weekend so it’s not the best time to be critical. But the staff was excellent and it was well staffed for it being so busy. Food was prompt but didn’t like it being on paper. Hard to eat. One dish of tostadas was excellent. The tacos were really bland and cooled off quickly. Side dishes on both were bland also. Looks like innovative food. Will try again later.
We were there on their grand opening night. We had reservation for 5 pm. We weren't able to enter the restaurant until 5:25, as they weren't ready. The service was fair but felt rushed when we sat down. We then had to wait another 15 mins to take our oreder event though others were being served that came in after us. We order 3 dishes. We were excited to try their bbq tacos as they stated on the menu that the meat was smoked for 14 to 16 hours. Not true that night! the meat, what meat there was was tough and dry. We were very disappointed. They also only offer a bottled IPA on the menu. With Petaluma full of breweries how can you not offer a Petaluma IPA on tap! Unfortunately we won't be back, shame as we live in the neighborhood.
Two of us had the pork sandwich and there was hardly any pork on the bun. French Fries were as much as a handful. Not worth the price!! Sorry - but we were disappointed.
OF course this was their first night for a "soft open". We ordered the burger and fries and pork tacos. The burger meat was excellent quality and cooked perfectly to order. The taco meat was a little on the dry side but very clean and simple. Perhaps if the tacos are served with a slice of lime or guacamole or maybe a little salsa (?) The rice and black beans were, again, clean and simple (just rice and black beans). This plate needed a little more imagination. I'm sure chef Christopher will come up with something! The meat had a wonderful flavor, just a little dry. We miss the chips and salsa that were served upon being seated at Nopalito.
Great food and a good beer list. I had the Butcher Burger and don't recall ever having a better burger in Petaluma. But there are some local burgers that come in a close second and cost much less. So, I'm great with the food, but not yet sure on the value.
Always excited about a great bbq joint with serious veggie options for my husband. We will definitely be back!
Loved, loved, loved it. Food was excellent, service was friendly and efficient, owner, Pete was very kind and attentive. He really cared that we had a good experience. My Napa snob foodie friends adored their dishes, said they'd come back. Everything was cooked nicely, spiced perfectly. Delicious. Cannot wait to get back to try some of the other dishes on the menu.
Went on a soft opening weekend. The food was delicious and enough reason for me to return and give it another shot despite some pitfalls. First, service was extremely slow and unattentive. I never had my water glass refilled (or even asked about) the entire time and it was empty prior to the meal arriving. We ordered a starter that came out after our meal so by the time we finished one, the other was cold. I watched my food go to another table and get sent to the finishing station then come right out to me. Prior to this, I watched the chef shake hands and hug someone, but never wash his hands after and prior to handling food. I was a little sketched by this practice. Finally, it was so noisy that I could not have a conversation with the person across the table from me. There is an open kitchen and dishwashing station to the dining area that I think highly contributed to the noise. This is a tiny place and I counted, only 25 patrons at the time plus 10 staff members. I understand the concept of a soft opening is to get some of these kinks out so I am willing to give it another shot at a traditionally less busy time.
They are just getting rolling And basically there 1st Saturday of a soft opening. The burger was amazing, but the fries were under cooked. Great selection of beer and overall experience was very good. Looking forward to my next visit.
