Butcher & the Boar Ratings and Reviews
We’ve been here in the past and our experience before was really good. However this place is very expensive. We recently went for Valentine’s Day. I put in a reservation in the Beginning of December.. when we showed up they stuck us at literally the closest table to the entry door, so we kept getting bursts of cold air. This was very disappointing to me seeing as how early I was to put in my reservation and still get a crappy seat. Then we got our food. Girlfriends filet Minton was burnt on the outside and my steak was rather tough to chew and cut. When you spend over $100 on just two mediocre size steaks that kind of quality is rather disappointing.
Visiting Mnpls for weekend. Great meal at Butcher and the Boar. Bone Marrow App was great. My wife’s scallops looked like they should have been on a magazine cover. My NY Strip was great.
Prices are high but.... the level of service by the server and his assistant was amazing.
Very easy to find, just across the street from Buca. There’s a large bar area where it is very loud. The main dining area gives a look into the kitchen area. Service was team oriented and well done. We always have the sausage sampler to start and that could be an entree for most. I had the salmon special and my husband had the pork chop. Large portions and more than enough to fill you up. Must try the fries. Great experience and will keep coming back.
My husband and I tried both of the butcher's cut special that they provided on Saturday night and all I have to say is hands down this was the best steak we've ver had. It was a 40 day dry age rib eye with baby carrots and Brussels sprouts that stole the show that night for us. Every bite tasted like melted butter in our mouth. This piece of steak was HUGE! The proportions are huge with their main entree. We were so stuffed and had to pack our food home and this was without even ordering appetizers. It was really pricey but because of the streak being so amazing, the experience out weighed the cost. Definitely going back for another date night.
The food was very good, the dishes were simple but deeply complex with spices and seasoning. The mushrooms tasted good, the long rib was soft and plentiful. Risotto with salmon was to die for. The noise level was fairy loud, a lot of were there, so its to be expected. Service kind of slow, most regretful thing to say is they forgot my request for my anniversary.
Both the food and the service were outstanding. A member of our group had a food allergy and our server, Michael, was super attentive in making sure she knew which dishes she could eat and which ones to stay away from. My dinner was one of the best pieces of steak I've ever eaten.
My second time visiting my hometown of Minneapolis in six months and I dined here both times. The food here is amazing, so much meat, and cooked perfectly. We had steak tartar(ample portion, great presentation, amazing flavor) and we got the Berkshire pork and cheddar sausage (tried this last time too), ribeye(nice char), duck breast(my favorite, and for some reason they get the largest duck breasts here) and three sides. The Mac n cheese had a nice spiciness to it. Trumpet Mushrooms were delightful, and the cornbread is not to be missed. My god we were so full! Great wild ale beer choices and a huge Bourbon selection here too. I will definitely be back. My only gripe was that my reservation for 7pm was not ready until 7:30, but that was most likely due to all of the obnoxious Philadelphia Eagles fans overstaying their visit. They should have been turned away at the door in the first place. Please open a butcher and the boar in Boston, Mass! Our server Sam was great and his server assistant was a rockstar, don’t know her name but she was a younger girl, brown hair with glasses. Great job!
Food and ambiance are amazing. Server was great but the busser/expediter at one point asked us if we were finished eating 4 times in a 10 minute span. We have 3/4 of our second bottle of wine left at that point. Check was brought without our asking. Our wine bottle was taken with a bit left. Good food .. I would recommend ... but I can honestly say I’ve never felt forced out of a restaurant with a near $600 bill.
We were celebrating my son's 21st birthday and Butcher & the Boar is his favorite restaurant in the cities. My daughter's boyfriend shares the same birthday so it was a special night. We were given a great table, had wonderful cocktails, spectacular food, and delicious desserts. I have been here a few times before and it has always been terrific. This was the first time my daughter's boyfriend joined us and after tasting the sausage sampler he joked that he might cry when his dinner came. He made it through without a tear but he, and we, thoroughly enjoyed every bit. I think it was the best meal I have ever had and I have travelled the world over.
This is my favorite restaurant in the Twin Cities. The prices certainly put it in the “special occasion” category but the quality definitely meets those expectations. This is an excellent place for a group as the portion sizes of the starters and sides are perfect for sharing. I have eaten here 1-2 times per year since they opened and have never had a bad meal. The beef long rib is one of the single greatest meat creations I’ve tasted. On my most recent visit, Mike was our server and he was superb. He was attentive, personable and very passionate about the food. 10/10 would recommend and will return. Tl;dr: The meats are amazing, get them in your mouth ASAP.
Food was decent but not great. They jammed us in between two big groups but sometimes that's what you get when space is limited. For the price, we were not impressed with the food. It certainly wasn't terrible but it wasn't great either. On the upside, our waiter was amazing and very knowledgeable about the menu. The ambiance was different than we expected, but frankly it had a nice vibe.
We split the Alaska King Crab Salad, Red Hot Brussels Sprouts (absolute must!) and the 21 Dry Aged NY Strip. All were excellent. Only complaint is that the flavors on the dessert, Orange Cake w/Bourban Glaze, didn’t blend well. This place does best with their meats and side dishes. Skip dessert. You probably won’t have room anyways.
