Butcher & the Boar Ratings and Reviews
The tables are way too close and the acoustics are bad. I had to shout to have a conversation with the people sitting across the table. The fish special came out cold and was bland. The long rib was exceptional and the drinks were on point. The service was great.
Made a 7pm Friday evening reservation a month in advance for our 15 year anniversary. We arrived a few minutes early hoping to grab a drink in the bar before dinner. Instead they sat us for our meal in the bar right next to the front door. Disappointed......
The hot Brussels sprouts are a must--so delicious! I'm looking forward to a trip back just for those. All the food we had was great, even the vegetarian sausage which was a pleasant surprise to see on the menu at this meat-centric restaurant. It is a bit pricey, so be prepared. It's a great special occasion spot. Service was exceptional from the minute we walked in the door right through to our way back out. Look forward to a return trip and highly recommend.
Even though we had a reservation, it took them forever to seat us. However, it was worth the wait! They have an extensive whiskey list and an amazing menu full of smoked meats, artisanal sausage, and yummy sides. It was perfect for my hubby’s 30th birthday!
The menu choices are limited but there are great gems that should appeal to many. It’s fairly expensive but the food portions and quality make it worthwhile. The 12 oz filet was one of the best I’ve ever had and the steak tartare was incredible. My only complaint is it is way TOO LOUD in there. And too loud by a LOT. Makes it hard to talk and hurt my ears. But I loved what I had to eat.
Excellent---after a questionable start. We made reservations weeks in advance, and when we arrived (two of us), they attempted to seat us at a very small round table in the very busy and loud front bar area. There are several people seated directly to your right and left on a shared banquette. I had brought a friend I from Philadelphia that I only see once a year, and it was not going to work to have any type of conversation in that open, chaotic area. We were told we could have a dining room reservation, but it would take about 15 minutes so, luckily we found two spots at the bar. We opted out of our dining room table reservation to stay at the bar, where is was much easier to talk. The bartenders were wonderful, fun and engaging, always willing to share what they were making and what the ingredients were for each drink. Loved the atmosphere in the bar and would recommend that or a booth in the bar area. The restaurant is quite loud and it can be difficult to hear conversation in the other areas. We had steak tartare, Brussells sprouts and the charcuterie tray. The sprouts and the charcuterie components were simply amazing; the tartare was rather bland. When we added some of the components from the charcuterie tray to spice it up a bit, the flavor was improved. We would recommend adding capers or some other ingredient to give it more punch. I'd go back, and I'd sit in the bar area again.
Went for a date on a Monday night and would highly recommend. A little spendy, but you definitely get what you pay for here. After talking with the waiter we had the peanut butter jalapenos for a starter and Long Rib with a side of cornbread for the main course.
If you're reading this review than you probably have already seen from others that the Long Rib is the real deal. Very tender, nice bark from the smoker, and the tabasco molasses glaze was vibrant, but not overwhelming. Definitely the highlight. Not that the other dishes weren't good as well but this place is known for the meat and delivers on those expectations.
We were so full we couldn't order dessert, but were having such a good time that we had another beer from their extensive tap list. Already recommended it to a friend looking for an anniversary dinner spot.
We came to Butcher & the Boar in late November and I found the atmosphere to be cozy and rich with a slight smoky smell that was enticing. My husband and I felt like we could be eating our meal at a cozy ski chateau in the mountains.
The food and service were great! Everything was served very promptly.
The main problem I had was our table. It was horrible. We were seated next to the door. Everyone waiting to be seated was gathered there and there was overflow from the bar literally on top of us. It was so uncomfortable.
The table service was excellent. Our waiter was fabulous. Your hosts at the front door need an attitude adjustment however. They are rude, unfriendly and arrogant. I ordered the Heirloom Salad and the tomatoes were ice cold. You would charge $14 for a salad with heirloom tomatoes and then serve them cold from the refrigerator - what are you thinking? This ruined the salad.
My second visit... .and we’ll be back. Outstanding food, fast and attentive service, solid recommendations by our waiter. Probably a bit tough for vegetarians... but that’s not why one would go to a place called Butcher and the Boar. Wild Boar and Pork/Cheddar sausages were wonderful. Loved the brussel sprouts to share (which I really didn’t share).
We had an 8 pm reservation but waited at least 10 minutes to be seated. Our table for 2 was pretty tightly squished in between two others. The food was great, and the service good once they got to us; a bit slow in greeting us and getting our drinks order. The noise level was extremely loud where we were sitting, near the bar area. Not great for any kind of table conversation, but the food made the experience worth it.
The food at Butcher and the Boar is great. Very meat-heavy menu, smoky foods and smoky scent to the place. However, the service was so-so. There were about six customers waiting outside in the freezing cold for the restaurant to open at 5:00 p.m, most probably there before a show. The wait staff ignored us, though we could see them through the window hanging out at the hostess stand. They would not even invite us in to wait in the lobby. Finally they opened, not a minute before 5:00, and allowed us to wait indoors for our tables. We told our server that we had to be at a show by a certain time, but it took a full 50 minutes before we got our food. Then we had to eat really fast and rush, which took away a lot of the pleasure of the meal. Wonderful food - duck, prime rib, salmon, all recommended, but DON'T go and expect to be served promptly.
Came here for my birthday and once again we left completely satisfied with our meal! We had the Wood fire oysters, wedge salad, prime rib cap, crab legs and chocolate torte. Everything was really good, steak was cooked perfectly and the crab legs were huge - the mango salsa on the crab was a nice addition. Basically everything we've ever ordered here has been delicious...
The beef rib was excellent. Sausage platter ok. My wife favors chicken and fish, of which chooses were limited. Large portions and high prices. A good place to take the football team after a full practice. Presentation could use a fair amount of work for the price.
We decided we would not need to return.
