Butcher & the Boar Ratings and Reviews
I have been wanting to try this place for quite a while. I met my son there for a "father/ son night. I guess we weren't dressed good enough, we were seated at the bar. Our server was really good....liked him. I was all set on the Long Rib. I was expecting a smoked meaty special rib eye/ rib bone thing, wood smoked with a smoke ring...classic BBQ. Instead I got pot mushy pot roast, actually brisket, loaded with sauce. I was very disappointed for $56 bucks. The potato pave side was good, but anything with that much butter/ cream and cheese is bound to taste good. Hot brussels sprouts were OK. I might come back sometime and go for the sausage and see how that goes. I got to spend some time with my son, so that made it a good night out.
Great food and tremendous service. The server was the best part of the experience. They also had an interesting menu. In my financial situation it would only qualify for special occasions as it is rather spendy in my opinion. Of course that is all relative.
Awesome experience once again. I have dined here many times and have never been disappointed. The pork chop and long rib are my usual choices, but the other options are also great. Service is always first class and the drinks are excellent as well. Try the Old Fashions if you like that type of cocktail.
I was very disappointed in my experience. The hostess was rude and pretentious. We didn't get sat until 9:10 and our reservation was for 8:30. When asked how long it would be the hostess said "we have your number and will text you". I shared with her we only had a sitter until 10pm and didn't want to rush through our meal. Thankfully the bar had two open seats. They were friendly, but got our order wrong. It was a complete disappointment. There are a lot of "trendy" butcher and farm to table restaurants in minneapolis. It is not acceptable to be rude to your customers when you are charging quite a bit for meals. Our bill was almost $200 for two people. We were there to gave a good night, enjoy the ritual of dining out and being waited on. Completely unacceptable and a big disappointment!
It was our first time here to celebrate my birthday. Everything was amazing! Our server was knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. Everything everyone ordered was amazing! The sausage sampler was a great idea so everyone got to taste that but not order the full order of specific sausages. I had the scallops and my husband had the Ny strip, friends had halibut and the fish special of marlin. We shared the shrimp Mac, hot brussel sprouts and potato pate. For dessert we ordered the cheesecake, flourless chocolate cake and s’mores. The espresso martini was amazing one of the best I’ve had. It’s definitely a pricy meal, however the quality is definitely there! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back!
The hostess was able to accommodate my late reservation for 5 people on New Year's Eve and took care of our group with great courtesy and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. The waitress was very attentive and prompt with orders and knew the menu from top to bottom. Drinks were delicious and the food was some of the best we have ever had. I would highly recommend visiting for any occasion and definitely make sure you have room for food. The portions are very generous and well worth the price!
Thank you for a great New Years!
I had received a $100 gift card from my Team for Christmas. They ordered it online and just printed it out for me. When I tried to use it for New Year's Eve, I was told that the value was $9.81. They asked if I had already used it....which I had not. They did honor the gift card but not sure I would recommend buying another gift card online.
We had a lovely evening and Sam, our server, was beyond hospitable and on it. Thank u Sam! Kudos to the culinary staff for preparing a scrumptious meal for our 2017 send off, all of us are pleasantly full:). Special thanks to Leigh for helping me last minute manage our party size and reservation time on such a busy evening for the team. We are grateful! Thank u B&B team for a great and memorable evening for me and my friends. HNY!
The food at Butcher and the Boar was very good. We had the peanut butter jalapenos and I thought they were a bit spicier than some prior reviewers did. My husband was totally turned off by the idea but tried one and said it was better than he thought. The pickle plate was fun with pickled carrots, beets, cucumbers, and onions. For an entree, my husband ordered the smoked beef long rib and I had the beet salad. Both were excellent, with my husband drooling over the long rib and our potato pave side (the server described it as a poutine-flavored dish and my Canadian husband couldn't have agreed more). Our dessert was an orange cake which, again, was beautiful and delicious. A tip for Butcher and the Boar: the sides and desserts are not quite as large as those in other restaurants with a la carte menu items, so order accordingly.
Everything about the experience was great. We were by the kitchen and it was a packed night so the noise level was pretty high, but it certainly didn't ruin the experience for us. The bone-in ribeye and beef long rib were two of the best pieces of meat I've ever put in my mouth, and the flourless chocolate torte was a fantastic finish.
It's a meat lovers delight. We had the long bone rib and it was really really tasty. And it was big enough to split between two people. We were also impressed with the Cajun mac 'n cheese. The Texas toast was rather ordinary and I'd have expected better from a place of this quality. Our server was informative, professional and checked-in with us but didn't over manage our table which we appreciated. The prices are on the higher end but it's worth it for a memorable meal. We were disappointed that the lot right next to the restaurant was not available for self-parking, it was only used for valet. It would be great if this policy was changed.
Food was 5 Star. That said, we made reservations a month in advance and were seated in the bar area by the front door. Every time the door opened the 15 degree wind chilled the whole table down. Three of the 4 of us had to eat with our coats on. In addition our server was also a bar tender. While she did the best she could, the table didn’t get the attention it deserved for a $400 bill. Too many jobs for just one person. To me, while the food was great, this was a restaurant management problem not a worker problem.
The food was a great fit for an end of the year dining experience for a bunch of meat eaters. All of the food was excellent. A bit pricey for an every day meal but like I said for an occasion it’s worth it. The long rib and sausage platter make this a destination eating experience. Bring your appetite!
It was fantastic! Our first time, we all had cocktails at the bar then dinner, before Phantom of the Opera at the Orpheum Theatre. We came back with our friends after the play and closed the bar! We had Old Fashions and Basil-Hayden Dark Rye shots. And a Haze/ New England style beer from Insight Brewing - delicious.
We loved butcher and the boar when it first opened and for years after that. We had Kids and hadn’t been back for a while and were really looking forward to it. While all the flavors were there, our food arrived luke warm at best and our waitress was sorry but that was about it. I’m happy to know that they are so busy that they could care less if a $400 meal was mediocre. I do not have trouble hearing but it was pretty loud so I would not recommend bringing anyone w hearing difficulties. Sorry to say it was pretty disappointing.
Good to be back at Butcher & the Boar with business colleagues. Food was solid, as always, but still hit or miss with the host staff. Bartender was a bit off his game after spilling hot wax on a fellow patron, but bar area was buzzing. Main dining room was alive and well, and great to have our reservation honored and ready a few minutes ahead of the 8pm time. Look forward to my return.
This was a very special dining experience, from our first cocktail to dessert, Mike, our server was quite knowledgeable in helping us with the menu, Wedge salad was nice, our entrees perfect, long bone beef, and pork chop and the S’mores dessert was Divine, cannot wait to return,
Interesting and delicious menu options such as bone marrow (sounds weird, tasted great), as well as traditional bar food like croquettes (also incredible). We ordered the Smoked Beef Long Rib and the Wedge Salad as our main course, which we split. The rib was very tender and had a decent spice to it. The salad was the best wedge salad I've ever had. The best part of the meal was the dessert. I had the peanut butter and chocolate ice cream which was to die for.
Dinner for two, including a glass of wine & tip was $225.
