Wow! Lives up to its name. Tremendous choices of meat with wonderful sides to compliment your choice of meat(s). Outstanding menu of whiskeys as well. We'll return.
Great food, service and cocktails. We always make the meal family style and try a couple cuts of meat and a few sides. Pork chop and long bone smoked beef were amazing.
A note about my wife and I's experience on Friday 6/22. This was our first visit and we were celebrating our anniversary. Our server Sam F was Fantastic. He asked if we had been there before and we both told him no, within minutes Sam made us feel like regulars walking us through the menu making several recommendations taking into consideration my wife's need to avoid spicy foods. We had the charcuterie board as was recommended to us us by my brother. She had the Filet, I had the Ribeye and we shared brussel sprouts and fries. Everything was great! As someone with years of experience in the service industry in know that you typically hear from the people displeased with their experience so I wanted to be sure to call out how great Sam was.
Great service our waiter Ben was exceptional! Great food, great beer, and great service what else would you want!
Toasting our college student successful first year
Great food and experience for a get together with friends visiting out of town.
Food prices were much too high for the quality of food.
Excellent food! Lively with moderate noise but not so bad my husband and I couldn't carry on our conversations. Server paid right amount of attention, good knowledge, and was able to recommend a bourbon for my husband. Overall excellent dining experience. Would definitely go again.
Great night out with the family for Fathers Day. Great long rib. Spicy food all over the menu!
Our service was excellent, and they’re justifiably proud of their food. The sausage sampler was very tasty. My companion doesn’t eat meat, which was a problem for her and detracted from her experience. But if you like meat, which I do, then it’s good place for you.
Food was great. Service was indifferent.
Our first time visiting Butcher and Boar and we loved it. We had two adults and three children 12-16 years old. We ordered the cheese plate, pickle plate, long rib, double pork chop, chicken fried chicken sausage, brussel sprouts, and mashed potatoes. Everything was very good. The meat entrees were easily big enough for two and maybe three adults. The service was very attentive but not intrusive. I was amazed how all of our water glasses were always filled. Overall a great experience.
One of the better meals I’ve had away on business, friendly staff and the food was out of this world.
The food and service was excellent. It was way too loud to hold a comfortable conversation. Warm water was not a plus. The chocolate cake was not up to the rest of the menu.
Made a reservation far in advance, but still had to wait 25 minutes for a table. This is inexcusable. Hostesses were annoying and rude.
Bar and waitstaff on the other hand were friendly & helpful.
For appetizers, we had the sausage sampler. This was the best thing we ate. We also had the pickled plater and that was good as well.
I got the beef ribs. It was smoked beautifully, but the sauce was horrible and they drenched the beautiful rib. I could only eat about 10 bites as the sauce was way too rich. Too bad. My wife’s filet was okay, nothing special. For sides we had the skillet cornbread, which was delicious, and the mac & cheese. The mac & cheese was more like a pasta salad as it was cold and runny. It was not good at all.
I would recommend going to the bar and enjoying some appetizers. This way you don’t have to deal with the horrible hostesses and underwhelming entrees.
Great food and a fun waiter made for a perfect night out with friends. The smoked bone marrow and long rib were both amazing - definitely get these for the table to share.
Favorites: Pickle plate, Red Hot Brussels Sprouts, Filet Mignon, Rib-Eye, Pork Chop
Came to the city for a business dinner and everything was great!
Went for my anniversary. Felt rushed. Was not even offered the dessert menu. Small table. Felt squeezed in. Not really a romantic setting with servers and diners squeezing between tables and bumping into my elbows.
Absolutely delicious food! Their shrimp creole Mac-n-cheese is to die for. Their filet was cooked perfectly and was accompanied with a a tasty sauce, mushrooms and fingerling potatoes. Large portions so good to share several things and bring leftovers home. Inside was loud and crowded so would have been nice to sit outside where it was easier to talk. Friendly staff too. It was our first time dining there and I will definitely go back.
Prices are very expensive, ambiance was casual, food wonderful.
Was a great place to celebrate a birthday. They have a small patio with the full menu, that is where we sat. Beer garden is a seperate menu. All food was outstanding.
I LIVE IN AUSTIN TEXAS WHERE BEEF IS KING! WHATEVER YOUR SMOKER IS RUBBING ON YOUR MEAT IS KILLER! DO YOU SELL IT? THE FIST THICK PORK CHOP WAS THE BEST.
I took a longtime friend to eat at B&TB having eaten there before and noting the high quality of the steaks they served. To be sure, the steaks did not disappoint. Between the 3 of us, we had 2 ribeyes and one NY Strip, all were perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had the Mashed Potatoes and Mac'n'Cheese as sides. The latter was flavorful and great, while the mashed potatoes were no more memorable than dried Idaho flakes from a box.
Prior to dinner, we indulged in the Cheese Platter and Pickled Sampler. Both had lots of flavor and were properly portioned for appetizers.
Where this visit lacked was in service. Our prior visits all had stellar service. This visit, our server seemed distracted. I routinely saw her and a couple other servers by the bar corner next to the beer garden doorway, conversing while we waited. Getting our first round of drinks came almost 15 minutes after we were sat. She seemed to avoid eye contact and did not really know the menu. On prior visits, we were greeted with a brief history of the restaurant, the high points of the menu, and what the specials of the say were. This time, we had to ask about the specials. Previously, the specials had been described with energy and passion for food. This time, it felt like it was read off an index card.
In a restaurant like this, I expect nothing less than excellent table service by experienced wait staff that know the menu and their atmosphere. I expect them to be personable and attentive. I came to The Butcher and The Boar for great service and great steaks. At least I got a great steak. Normally I wouldn't think twice about going here as a showcase of Minneapolis food and service, but this last experience has me thinking about exploring alternatives .
The food was good. A bit pricey but it was our anniversary so we didn't mind splurging a bit. I really enjoyed the fried green tomatoes.
We ended up sitting at the bar and it was perfect! Great bartender, great service and very enjoyable evening! Thank you!
I visited this restaurant for the first time as a belated Mother's Day Gift. I thought the food and service was great. Nice variety of menu options. The drinks seemed a touch expensive for size/amount, but I would definitely return.
I would like to visit the outdoor seating area in the future.
LOVE Butcher and the Boar! Have dreams about the stuffed jalapenos and long rib, and we ordered both and they did not disappoint. We've pretty much eaten everything on the menu over the last couple years so here are my recommendations - Order the jalapenos and charcuterie to start. Maybe include the sausage sampler if you're extra hungry or have more than 2 people. For entrees, get the long rib and if you have more than 2, get the pork chop too (each entree feeds 2-3 people). The other steaks/seafood are OK, but nothing that will truly wow you like those 2 items and over-priced IMO. If you want some more meat and didn't do the sausage sampler to start, add on the green chorizo or blood sausage. For sides, can't go wrong with the corn bread and Brussels sprouts. The Cajun mac and cheese is pretty solid too.
For drinks, get the old fashioned. It may be too sweet for some, but I think it's perfect and one of my favorites around. For dessert, they changed the way they do smores, so I'd actually recommend the cheesecake (unless they change back to the old way).
This place is worth trying at least once, and judging by how busy it gets most nights, once you try it - you'll be back. We ALWAYS order too much food, but the servers are usually really good about telling you if it's too much for your group. One knock I have is that we've found the servers try to push some things that are more expensive but that we've found aren't as good (crab legs and their ribeye are examples - both are good but very expensive for what you get and not as good as the long rib or chop) - so it's always best to ask what their best sellers are as opposed to "what they really like"
Love going there! We had a great time with friends from Colorado.
Great food. Beautiful restaurant. Great service. Much of the food is rich and heavy and intense. Meat lovers paradise. I’ll be back.
Service was fantastic! Never had an empty glass and gave great recommendations for beer and food.
Too loud but food was great. They don’t allow Bouies but I’d go again. Boop boop bah boo!
Always enjoyable dinner. Service was outstanding and really helps the experience. Side dishes were just average this time. Main course’s were very good, cooked perfectly. A little less impressed this time considering the prices, but maybe an off night after the Holiday weekend. Overall , we will return.
Took my parents here for their 50th Anniversary. Everything was superb. Only constructive criticism is that it was a bit loud (especially for my parents).
Food, service and ambiance were amazing. One thing to be aware of is that most of the dishes are fairly spicy, but the servers / cooks are willing to accommodate you as best they can!
I usually love the Butcher and the Boar but something about my last visit was off. It’s gets loud around when the dinner rush hits, which is to be expected. The butcher’s cut (usually spectacular) was just average. The duck was good (as always) but a smaller portion than usual and had more sauce accompaniment, which over powered the duck flavor. For the price of the dinner, our expectations were higher.
Would request bar area next time as the open kitchen side is very loud and warm so took away from our enjoyment.
Food was quite salty but service and quality was stellar.
The food was very good. We ordered the beef rib and pork chop. The rib was fantastic, fall of the bone tender and flavorful and the molasses/tabasco sauce was delicious. The pork chop was good. large and dense but not as good as the rib. We also had a sausage to share with the table that was fantastic. The beer nuts were a huge hit with two of the four in the party. Beer, wind and cocktail selections were good. Prices are high but you don't need to order an entree each.
