It is an excellent place to hold a quiet executive meeting.
We had a wonderful time! Thank you for making this day extra special. Staff was very attentive and very friendly.
We had limited time as we had tickets to the Rangers game ... they were efficient and accommodating and very nice ...
Don't waste your money on this place. The steak was mostly fat, and the rest of the food was mediocre. The service staff was mainly on their phones. This was a "fancier" outback steakhouse.
New York has so much fantastic food options, why settle for this crap.
We met our friends from Ireland who were staying at the New Yorker and were able to have a good meal in quiet surroundings so we could hear each others conversation. No one pushed us to leave after we had paid the bill giving us lots of time to catch up. In a city that has a decibel range of 85 it was a great place to have dinner with considerate hosts. Thank you Butcher & Banker.

A fabulous, romantic evening. Probably the best steak we have ever eaten. Cooked perfectly and melt in the mouth when eaten. The service was impeccable and so timely. This was a great find and highly recommended
Nice dinner in a good location for proximity to MSG. The staff was courteous. They were out of a signature dish at 5pm and the food was only satisfactory. Nice place to have a drink, but skip the meal.
Food was good. Felt
A bit rushed as kitchen was closing
The space is super cool - sitting in an old vault, surrounded by safety deposit boxes is an experience.
The wait staff rushed us (admittedly, we were one of the last reservations of the evening), the food was bland - absolutely no flavor, and overpriced for such an underwhelming meal. Did I say the meal was bland? It was! The bread was oily and hard. The mac & cheese also had no flavor. The only good thing was the steak sauce, but it couldn't rescue the short rib or the filet we ordered. NYC has so many good steakhouses, and there are plenty of better options near MSG.
Everything was good. The food and the service but the hostess was so not nice! Really I’m still repeating in my head how awful she was! She needs a serious training in treating clients and what to say and not to say!
It was great!
Cocktails and steaks were great as was the service. We had requested a table inside the vault but they said it was available yet there were 5 empty tables the entire 90 mins we sat for our meal.
We were in NYC for a concert at the MSG . We were surprised we were able to get reservations. Well they didn’t disappoint. Ambience was great , service was spot on and food was good.
The menu has some interesting options. We tried the bacon appetizer which was delicious. We ordered steaks for dinner and they were done to perfection. Our side was the cauliflower which was also outstanding. The appetizer and side dish were large enough to share. We will definitely go back again.
The decor and energy were good, but the food was lacking although plenty of it
We were in the city for a concert. We told the waiter and he timed our meal perfectly. He didn’t rush us and we had plenty of time to make it to the concert. Food was excellent.
Food was great, service was mediocre for the prices they charge and for a light crowd on a Sunday. I am not picky and always tip very well, however, if you are selling me bottles of cab wine which are mostly well over $100per bottle (when they actually cost $25 in a store) at least pour my wine for me.
Food is great as usual! The service was as good. We had the tacos, the chicken and filet mignon with creamed spinach and fries. And creme brûlée all of which were phenomenal.
Not good. This is place presents itself as a steakhouse on par with Ruth Chris’, Capital Grill, etc. on that single premise, I’m not sure how 4 people can order steaks and all of them be completely cooked incorrectly. Our party had 2 filets; one medium-well and one medium- they both came came out seared but rare. Another guest had a hanger steak; ordered medium +. Came out rare close to raw. I have a NY strip. Ordered Medium-rare that one came out close to well.
One guest sent their back because it was just too bloody and it took 25 min to get back and it was obviously just left in the salamander because it was hard as a rock...let me say the one that went back was the medium filet. So that was not well++.
Bad experience in what really feels like a tourist trap
Stay away. There are so many other great choices in NYC, this one is an epic fail.
Great atmosphere service was decent my wife really enjoyed herself there
We chose this place to have a pre-concert dinner. I would never visit again. Tuna Tartare app tasted like all they did was add soy sauce. The crackers that came with it were stale. The lamb chops were bland, raw and cold. I ordered them medium. The asparagus side was extremely bland. They steam them & give you the sauce on the side. The mango sorbet was sour like lemon mango sorbet. The room we were seated in smelled like a bathroom and we were seated in a small 2 person table while there were other empty tables. No, no one reserved them because when we left, they were still empty! This is not a cheap venue. We expected so much more. Only thing that was good was our server served us quickly and we left quickly.
My friend liked her salmon dinner but I didn’t enjoy my chicken dinner- not tasty or well presented.
I chose chicken partially because the steak was so expensive. With an appetizer, dessert, coffee and a drink dinner for one comes to around $100— for that price it should be outstanding.
We found Butcher and Banker to be a typical NYC tourist trap. Conveniently located next to MSG, the service was snobby and impersonal, other than the freshly made Caesars salad, all food was reheated, including the steak. It was a very pricey and sad gastronomic experience for us.
Preis - Leistung selbst für NY Verhältnisse zu hoch, hatten uns vom Essen her mehr erwartet. Ambiente sehr ausgefallen und interessant. Service war super.
We had a great night out at butcher and banker! The waiter was so nice and all the service was excellent. the filet Mignon was superb, so tender and flavorful. I highly recommend the mac and cheese and the asparagus with Meyer lemon hollandaise so delicious. you must get the short rib tacos-I will be going back to to eat those again! overall everything was perfect. plus you are in a bank vault-how cool!
We came here for dinner with a 730 reservation. The place was almost empty. It did not start picking up till about 9. Food was ok. The appetizer was wonderful but the entree was just ok. I had a special steak and it came out overcooked. Drinks are good but a bit over priced. The atmosphere is cool. Eating in a vault has to be cool right?! The wait staff was not as attentive as I would expect considering the price of the items on the menu. While good I probably will not come back.
We find imaginative pairings in their dishes, which are a pleasure to consume
Love this place the food was great and drinks where so good. The decor was to die for.
Not the best steak, but definitely one of the most expensive
Great hidden place near penn station.
The food was phenomenal! Bar tender was great.
Enjoyed our dinner and experience very much. Very nice wait staff. Can’t wait to go back.
Great food great environment highly recommended
Having dinner inside an old bank vault is the experience lol! I mean I don’t even know what else you could say to top that! The decor, the renovated vault, the set up, color scheme.....exceptional to say the least. It’s not a very big restaurant but it was nice. The service was also excellent. The wait staff was very attentive.
The food was good but I’m not sure if I would give it 5 stars. 4 definitely.
(The Mexican street corn was very very good and was the highlight of the sides.) asparagus was very well done as well.
I had the Scottish salmon and my friend had the scallops. Salmon was well done but could have used some more flavor and my friend said that her scallops were really good.
Overall it was a wonderful experience. The service was very good and again the bank vault. The bank vault spoke for itself
You get to eat at an old bank vault is the key to this place.
Great. Needs more of a selection
I visited the restaurant on 01/26/20 and the food and service was exceptional
Great setting to eat and steak! The wine was excellent and the filet and smoked mozerella/tomato appetizer were great! Mashed potatoes made me want to come back! The juice for the lamb was a bit salty! The server was not having a good day; something besides being pleasant to us must have been on his mind.
They forgot our drinks, The steak came out incorrectly cooked
I was in the NYC on the 25January2020 for the Billy Joel concert and booked a reservation here in October2019. The food was very good and expensive but that is to be expected...what I didn't expect was the amount of noise (clapping with laughing) with carrying on voices from the kitchen. It was like a party was going on. My expectation for a 300 dollar meal (before tip) is a more sensible and reasonable noise levels. They need to speak to the kitchen staff and alert them to the fact that they are working at an upscale steak house and not TGIF. Adding doors might help, IDK. I did notice that tables located further from the kitchen did not suffer the same distractions. If I had not made reservations a few months before hand, and showed up just looking to be seated without a reservation, then I can understand the poor seating position. It was a 5:15 reservation and they could have sat a table for two anywhere. I suppose if you eat here (food was very good) and are not seated in the back where the kitchen is located, you will have a much better experience. Based on my experience I can't recommend eating here as the ambiance near the rear of the establishment is severely lacking.
