Bustan Ratings and Reviews
Fist time at Bustan - The food was very good, but the atmosphere and service was lacking. We were a couple who both felt rushed at every point right to the end where the waitress asked me to move so she could take the signed receipt. There was no where to hang a coat or jacket.
I love bustan, but upon arrival at 6pm, the manager rudely asked us, "will you be done by 8pm?" It was an unpleasant and disappointing way to start dinner. Then we had to ask them to close the door to the garden multiple times, as it was freezing in there. Overall, love the food, but the service was lacking tonight.
Bustan is a favorite go to place with my friends. We love to order a lot of appetizers. They are
all different and delicious. The chopped salad, salmon and chicken are amazing for those watching what they are eating. Never a miss!!! Friendly service as well.
This was my first time dining at Bustan. I met a friend for lunch and thought the menu looked interesting. We started with the hummus appetizer and ordered the Greek and Israeli salads with lamb supplement. The appetizer was tasty with nice hummus and babaganoush served with a baked flatbread. The salads, while good, were not particularly memorable and were on the small side. The shocker came with the price tag. $26 dollars for each salad. At that price point for a lunch item I'd expect something pretty special in a casual restaurant. Unfortunately it wasn't. When my friend ordered a second glass of wine, the waiter took liberty to bring me one as well without asking. As it was a social event, I didn't challenge the waiter and just accepted and paid for it. Overall, it was not a great experience and I can't say I'll be back.
Early Sunday night, yet several menu items were out. The waiter said they were "busy" during the weekend. Really? You start the day without a 'fish of the day'? Seriously? And the vegetarian pot pie ( or whatever they call it), which is one reason people come to the restaurant and you start the day without it? No vegetables or no ingredients to make the crust earlier in the day? Finally, in spite of the place nearly empty when we came, it seemed like the waiter was pre occupied with more pressing priorities. Food was still good, though the experience was disappointing to say the least. Probably an off night, but much was the result of indifference.
Being a little but of a table snob, and arriving late, I was very pleased that the general manager, Nuri, found us an excellent table in the garden. Eddie provided great service, and Nuri sent a complimentary signature dessert, ensuring that I will be back. The food was the star. Spicy feta and hummus were excellent. The halibut special, with cous cous was delicious. Great first date, great first meal at a new UWS fave.
First time guests at Bustan and we had a fantastic overall experience and enjoyed the food, the service, the ambiance and the overall vibe of the place. Somewhat of a small family reunion and it was a pleasure dining at Bustan and I would recommend highly and plan on returning there very soon! Bon apetit!
If it's ambiance you want and the food is secondary, this place is good. Staff and quality of ingredients very good, but actual food was mediocre - very bland and watered down flavors and not authentic. Also, watch out of upselling - out of wine ordered and replaced with an outrageously expensive option, and encouraged to order more than we needed - so a big check. A pity, because it's a lovely restaurant.
Really lacking in hospitality. From being told that the kitchen does not make substitutions to the server only occasionally stopping by the table almost as a favor we felt like they were doing us a favor by letting us eat there. We are upper west sliders and while We’ve been before and never had that kind of experience we Won’t be returning.
Good food but a bit overpriced for the quality. The Israeli salad is quite good, as is the mezze. However, as is unfortunately typical for many restaurants, Bustan did not provide nearly enough bread for their appetizer plates. In this case, the Mezze plate was woefully short on bread (which, in fairness, was fresh-baked and excellent), but where most restaurants will supply more bread, Bustan insisted we pay extra for it. This is not fair nor classy.
