Bushido Ratings and Reviews
We ordered several dishes and they came out in varying stages throughput the meal, but my first time ordering the Kanpachi Kama took a while, over a half hour to arrive and everyone else was almost done with their meal before I got mine. It was a smaller and less filling portion than the Hamachi Kama I'm used to having elsewhere. Our server was a little distracted that night... The owner was very hospitable and kind as always though and gave us a sampling of tuna that was excellent! Other than the timing, the rest of the meal was delicious.
The traditional style okonomi was delicious, crispy on the outside and soft in the center. Service left something to be desired - one person got their food about twenty minutes before the other dishes came out, so we didn't get to eat at the same time. It was pretty busy at dinner time and hard to flag down our server.
I ordered the ramen bowl with chashu. The meat was very small, mostly fat and barely existent in the dish. I let our server know and she was very kind and attentive and brought an extra side of pork that was much bigger with more meat, less fat, and very flavorful. Bushido has always been very gracious and accommodating with us when it comes to service.
over this Japanese diner is not Japanese Authentic, WHY? chef are NOT even Japanese. Simply Young lad Chinese Sushi maker and some european chef.
Order a ECO Roll, vegetarian Roll. sadly, main thing about Sushi is the marinated white rice.
This Sushi, is plain white rice, no taste at all. Chef used Oyster Sauce (Hopefully it is vegetarian friendly) made the sushi too salty for my taste.
Their Yakitori are far too DRY, not even juicy. Pieces on the stick are NOT evenly cut and placed.
Rather call it Charcoal Yakitori.
This is not your typical Japanese restaurant. They put a twist on the usual Japanese menu, like "dynamite skewers" - spicy tuna rolls on skewers. We went with small plates and was able to try a variety of food. We also got there close to the end of happy hour and had food from the happy hour menu - good deal!
I usually enjoy the sukiyaki but recently it was somewhat bland and lacked flavor. Also ordered the chicken wings and couldn't decide whether to have spicy or regular so they offered to have the spicy sauce on the side. We thought that they would come dressed in a regular sauce with some spicy sauce as "extra" on the side, but instead they came "naked" with the spicy sauce on the side, and were pretty anemic and listless and not very crisp. Bushido still has delicious food, but this night just missed the mark.
I was able to get a half order of the foil wrapped salmon which is my favorite, but there was no sliced garlic inside the broth and it wasn't as flavorful. The garlic really makes the dish special and the flavors pop. Everything else was very good as always.
We ordered mostly rolls, sashimi and a okonomiyaki. Each roll had it's own unique character. The ingredients are fresh and sustainably sourced. Our favorite rolls were the Zen Style and Spicy Tuna Crunch. The Okonomiyaki was an unusual experience that we're glad we tried, but probably won't order again. It was an extremely filling 6-inch diameter disc of egg, flour and noodles, to which we added scallops. The scallops were a mistake as they serve the entire scallop (connective tissue and all), so this was off-putting. However, the rolls and sashimi were excellent and we'll definitely go back for those again.
one of the worst service experiences ever. It took them 90 minutes to deliver our final 2 entrees - and one of them (their house speciality) was burnt. They do not have the logistics to serve more than 5 tables at a time. The wait staff all appear to be novices, the food is also just so-so.
Tried their signature okonomiyaki for the first time, with squid and beef, and it was delicious! It was a good suggestion to got 50/50 split on the 2 sauce choices. We decided to try their Rock-n-Roll which the server said is unagi and avocado. However, you need a very vivid imagination to find any unagi (eel) in the roll, and it was more cucumber than avocado - skimpy at that. In the future, we'll stick to the yakitori skewers, karage and sashimi and won't be ordering rolls again.
Food was excellent with some unique offerings. I particularly enjoyed the fish soup. Service was fantastic, with a very helpful waitress looking out for us (a group of seven). I had mixed drinks for a change and they were terrific, not too sweet. I look forward to a return visit.
I've been here quite a few times and the food, service, and drinks have always been fairly solid. Perhaps not one that'll blow your mind but it's good food and well-priced. Particular favorites include the yaki onigiri, the mushroom fried rice with chashu, and the rolls.
Three of us shared a number of dishes which were all delivered promptly and well prepared. Service was definitely lacking, though. Before we arrived, we were called by the restaurant and informed that because our reservation was last minute, there would not be a table for us. We made our reservation 25 minutes before and have never run into this issue before. We had other small issues - asked for a refill of water but never received it, wanted another round of drinks, but no one ever came over to give us an opportunity to ask, etc. In the beginning, the restaurant was quite busy so we understood the issues, but by the end of the meal, there were maybe five total tables and it still took us ten minutes to flag down someone to get our check.
It has indoor and outdoor tables, even though the proximity of the train station can cause some extra noise. Good fit for an informal outdoor dining where you get good quality sushi and japanese food at a reasonable price, quite below the average of the area. Not the best for a special occasion, though.
We have been going to Bushido for many years. I would not return. The pancakes were soggy and lacking flavor with a funny tasting sauce on the side. The gyoza was burned and the cod needed more or some at least, sauce. It was a very disappointing experience. I don't know what has changed in the kitchen. It used to be one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Mountain View but alas, no more!
We came here for a "light, but tasty" meal, and hit the spot during happy hour. We were able to walk away very satisfied, and for about $50 with drinks included. The chicken karaage was particularly good, and their okonomiyaki was very solid. We both really liked the pork steamed buns, which were well cooked and flavorful. We'll definitely be doing this again.
The food was good, especially for the price, but the service was very slow at times ( we waited at least 10 minutes before a waitress asked for drinks). They were not knowledgeable about the food itself nor the drinks, so this made ordering a bit of guess. I will try them again, but if the service remains poor, there are places just a block away with better food and service.
Happy hours menu is a great deal. They give full portion at HH price! Just be there before 7pm :)
The rest of the menu has a good variety and everything is delicious. Pork belly bun, Yaki onigiri, Okonomiyaki (Japanese pancake), beef tongue skewers, mushroom rice, sashimi... just to name a few of our favorites.
We always make reservation. Hostess service is very friendly and get seated promptly. Waitress service is good but not outstanding. Have to ask to get refill on tea/water.
I was super excited to find Bushido, the menu looked really good. I'm vegan, but my boyfriend isn't, we were both able to find food that we loved on the menu. The vegan options are clearly labeled. I have the Shojin crunch sushi and it was so creative and tasty! My boyfriend got the pork buns and the pancake and he loved his food also. Great food and great variety, will be back again.
Food is always very good. One of the few Japanese restaurants that offers vegan rolls!
This was our second time here and the service was horrible. We asked the waitress three times for a drink which never arrived. Later, our waitress literally ran out of the restaurant and didn't return. Another waiter arrived to tell us she was on break.
When we requested the check, we had to pull another server over just to run our credit card after waiting for somebody to pick it up for 5 minutes. Clearly, they were having an off-night as the service isn't normally this bad.
I love this restaurant. The ambience is only OK and the service can be spotty, but I just love the food. The flavors are perfect. I think the grilled vegetables with the teriyaki sauce have the best umami flavor. The fish is always the freshest and I love that they only use sustainable fish. No blue fin tuna here. I have never had a bad dish. I also like that this is more than just a sushi spot so while you can get a small selection of sushi and sashimi, you can also get great grilled vegetables and meats as well as rice balls, pancakes etc. This is an izakaya, not just a sushi restaurant. Good choice of sakes too. Lots of choices for vegetarians too, which is great. Just don't expect great decor or great service. It's hit or miss on the service front.
If you want to try something different from your usual sushi haunts check out Bushido.
Yes, the have rolls but much more. Some very nice grilled dishes (that can be had for a song during Happy Hour), nice ramen, steamed dishes, and specials. Worth a visit. Get here early, if only to find parking near busy Castro St in Mt View
