Really nice place with good japanese food at reasonable prices
Service was quick and people were really nice. The noise level was good because we could have conversation without raising our voices. The food was pretty good, the sashimi was fresh, but the tempura rolls were a little overdone. I really liked their speciality sashimi plate and the grilled corn appetizer.
Excellent fish and very good service (at end was difficult to get a server to pay our bill, it was fine until then. Even though we were sitting in the back, the music was WAY too loud!
Went with friends - who were vegetarian - and there were plenty of options. We ordered a mix of different things and shared family-style. To me the Japanese Curry was pretty great along with veg tempura.
First time here at recommendation of a friend. Loved the kuromitsu beef, which was a bowl of very tender and flavorful short-rib meat. Tried a piece of my friend's okonomiyaki, a house specialty. It was fabulous! We thought it was reasonably priced, and the wine served at happy hour ($5) was excellent. The server was new, but very good and very attentive. Will definitely go back!
Loud Live music in the wrong place. Don’t you guys (owner) get it ? On Saturday night the place was half empty because of that !
A jazz trio was playing when we were there, which was very enjoyable. The food was excellent. The staff was very nice.
Good for okonomiyaki. Rolls and sushi are good, but pricey.
very ordinary japanese food. They have good vegetarian vegan options and thats why we went. Didn't like the food that much.
The wait staff is super friendly!
Great food, including Vegan options. The live music on Saturdays only adds to the ambiance.
Our family always enjoys our meal at Bushido and we try to dine there often. Our "go to" order is kampachi kama, usually grilled to perfection...soft and super moist. Tonight's kampachi kama was slightly overcooked where the fish was a wee bit dry for our taste. The "small plate" corn was tasty, but seemed to be overly seasoned (salty), frozen corn.
If looking for a nice quiet evening, Saturday nights features live music making dinner conversation more difficult.
Service is very nice and accommodating.
Went to Bushido Izakaya for lunch & definitely enjoyed it. I had the bento box with chicken teriyaki & mixed tempura. All very tasty, although the tempura was mostly vegetable & there was only one shrimp. Every other Japanese restaurant I have been to gives you two or more of the shrimp tempura.
My friend got a sushi special which included various types of sashimi. They said it was excellent.
Service was adequate, nothing special, but overall, it was a very nice lunch.
Good value on the lunch set. Quality is good too!
I have never felt more unimportant or ignored at a restaurant. I dine out a few times a week and they failed last night on many levels. Our party of three was seated for a 7:00 reservation. We ordered at 7:10 and received our appetizer at 7:50. One member of our party received his dinner at 7:55. The other two dinners arrived at 8:15 pm. After searching for someone to bring us our bill at 8:35, we asked if this service was normal. She replied, 'Well, we are busy on Saturday nights and the kitchen is really busy'. We walked out past two managers. No acknowledgement, not even a simple 'thank you'. The young man at the front desk offered a slight smile. It doesn't really matter that the food was acceptable, they destroyed our evening with their disinterest and poor service. Never again!!!
Visiting friends from Tacoma, WA were impressed with the array of special preparations of Japanese food which they’d never tried before. Trout preparations (as sashimi in the trout and avocado roll and seared as part of the Bushido roll) were new taste experiences for all of us. The happy hour pricing for garlic edamame, the trout & avocado roll, and the grilled vegetables was an added bonus, available until 6:20 pm. Hiroshima style okonomiyaki was also happily shared, taking advantage of the option of 1/2 and 1/2 sauces to try both the traditional way and the shiodare (with lemon & salt). Finding parking was a challenge around Castro Street on Friday night but well worth the meal.
The staff was amazing! Very attentive without intruding. We chose to sit outside rather than inside since the purpose of our dinner was to catch up and talk and the band playing inside would have made this more challenging (but it WAS a good band)! Any questions we had were answered to our complete satisfaction and we also enlisted staff recommendations (all of which were very, very good).
Arriving early (5:30 pm) for dinner, we enjoyed their happy hour $1.50 oysters in the half shell...very nice!
If you like fish with strong flavor, the dinner menu offers Kanpachi Kama (a grilled fish collar). They grilled our collars to perfection and they were delicious.
As side dishes, we ordered vegetable tempura and the curry rice plate (without adding optional protein). The tempura was just a wee bit greasy for our taste, but the vegetables were fresh and tasty. The curry rice was very good, but we thought $9 was expensive for a plate covered in curry sauce and a single scoop of plain white rice.
All said, we will be returning to Bushido!!!
Happened to be in the area and was craving Japanese so we popped in. Overall a good place to enjoy Japanese food and try some things that we'd never had. We started with 2 rolls, the spicy Tuna roll and the Travocado roll. They were delicious. For the main course I had the Traditional Okonomiyaki and my girl had Kurimitso Beef. Both were reasonably priced and delicious. All very good taste and portions!
The service was good, the food was great, and overall I would suggest this place. The prices were reasonable and the menu had a good variety of options. If you're in the downtown Mountain View and like Japanese food this is a good choice.
Previous issues that I've noted have been resolved. Maybe it was just an off night. Quality is back to expectations.
Had a wonderful time at Bushido. Great happy hour, great drinks, great food options. A real hidden gem on Castro. All my friends were happy about my choice of restaurant. :)
Often go when have special occasion. Have brought friends who return on their own.
There r many flys in the back dining area which was pretty disturbing at one point. Food is good tho
Food is amazing! One of best Japanese places we’ve been to in the Bay Area. Live Music was great too.
Drinks were dangerously good. I want to go back and try them all. Rolls are on the large side, nicely presented and fresh ingredients. Spicy edamame is served warm. It was a treat with a little kick. Service was warm and friendly without being intrusive. Pros all around. :)
Had a nice birthday celebration with my art mom friends. ;) I got there a little early and so the wait staff were very nice in accommodating me with water and seeing if I needed anything. We all ordered the bento boxes which all very yummy...had the agedashi tofu, grilled veggies, and tonkatsu. Carleen bought us a cake and they were nice enough to it candles on it and provoked us with the plates and serving utensils. Services was great. Took a nice group photo.
This was our second time back at Bushido. Food was good, but the service was absolutely terrible.
Will not be returning a 3rd time.
Small venue, bustling. Food was an adventure (a good one; interesting, tasty discoveries) and service was very good.
We enjoyed every dishes we ordered, mushroom fried rice, pork belly buns, miso cod, sashimi, Bushido rolls, kale salad, Bushido salad. Ingredients are so fresh and good quality!! Everyone on the table will visit again!
The house special okonomiyaki is quite good. Happy hour drinks all day Sunday.
Good food, live jazz was a nice touch.
Our tempura had a long piece of hair embedded in the batter. Not appetizing and ruined overall experience.
We enjoy the food and Saturday night live jazz at Bushido and brought our family and a friend to join us this last time to introduce them to Bushido. The menu suits sharing different items family style, especially the House Specialty okonomiyaki (savory pancakes). We have been twice with party of 6 in order to try both the traditional and the Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki (with noodles and egg) and select different toppings. The Kurobota pork belly and Kuromitsu beef short ribs were both hearty and flavorful. The spicy cauliflower does have a kick--we liked it too, along with standard favorites like gyoza (fried pork dumplings) and age dashi tofu.
Bushido was such a wonderful experience. We had the regular sake flight, age nasu (fried eggplant), spicy cauliflower, kuromitsu beef (short ribs), travocado (trout and avocado roll), negi toro (tuna scallion roll), red bean and green tea matcha ice creams for dessert. Everything was a delight to eat, especially the short ribs and cauliflower. The service was excellent and we will definitely be back! I've been recommending this place to all of my co-workers to try for lunch.
Everything we ordered was delicious! Will definitely be back!!!
Amazing food. Great service. Second order of wine came late so the manager gave 3 glass of wine on the house.
The place is small and tables are small that it feels crowded and squeezed .
Made a reservation for Bushido for a Saturday night. We were seated immediately. Our server was friendly and checked on us just the right amount. The food was amazing! I really LOVED the Uni Crab Risotto. This off the menu item is definitely worth ordering. It was super tasty, cheesy, and decadent! The Miso Cod was buttery, but I wish the fish was marinated a little more in the miso rather than just having it as a sauce on the side. The Okonomiyaki was also very good! We had it Hiroshima style (with noodles) and got half and half so that we could try both sauces. My only complaint was the live music. While it was fun, it was definitely way too loud for such a small space.
Great service. Friendly staff. My family and I will come back again.
There are not much selection on the raw food department. The cooked food is acceptable. I was surprised to use there is a life jazz band playing live music in a Japanese restaurant. It made it hard to talk while the banding is playing.
Solid Japanese fare but a bit expensive for what you get. There's hot tea is like warm so I had to ask for a new one. Also no salad dressing in my bento so I had to ask for some. They have good food but miss on the details
