Burritt Room + Tavern, tucked into Mystic Hotel by Charlie Palmer, is heavily influenced by film noir. Named for Burritt Alley, where detective Sam Spade's partner Miles Archer was gunned down in 1941 classic hardboiled crime film The Maltese Falcon, the distinctive atmosphere appears in the handcrafted cocktails as well as the tavern’s walled-in and curtained booths that create dark corners for private conversation.

Terrific, innovative food. I had a great mezcal-based spicy craft cocktail that meshed perfectly with the pork chop. Our table of four shared roasted Brussels sprouts and a beet and goat cheese salad before the entree. Generous portions and delicious food. Recommended.
It was thanksgiving dinner, the food started out awesome and each course was progressively worse and the desert was average at best. The soup and the Brussels Sprouts were awesome. The service was great. The main course was warm, not hot. They did have 20% off bottles of wine.
We came for Thanksgiving dinner which was a set menu. The decor was very cool - flim noir without being so dark that you can't see the menu. Our family of four got a nice "lightly screened-off" space which felt both private and intimate, yet we could still look into the restaurant. The menu was a fixed Thanksgiving menu so no ordering was required.
The breads were delish with elements of surprise both in the bread (scallions) and the butter (herbed and sea salted). The squash soup was delish - purred with sophistication and not seeming baby foodish. The Brussels Sprouts were to die. The entree was as good as Thanksgiving food can be if you don't naturally love turkey, stuffiing and cranberries. The mashed potatoes were perfectly creamy, chunky and tasty. The Bison stew was a nice touch, but a tad too watery and could have been omitted. Short rib would have been a more amazing touch or even some beef or pork medallions w/ more mashed potatoes and a leek confit.
The desserts were parfait to finish the meal. The service fantastic - attentive enough without hovering. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. I nice find inside a hotel that seems very different than the Tavern. Bon Appetit!
Food was decent. Waiter was terrible. Forgot my drink, disappeared for almost the entire meal without checking in, neglected to tell us our minor preparation request wasn’t honored and brought the food anyway, then completely inappropriately commented on my wife’s (good) body.
Excellent! Highly recommend. Jared, our waiter was on point with menu recommendations and drink suggestions and just all around great guy. We had the New York steak, salmon, cannelloni all incredible. For dessert the pudding type dish with meringue ...crazy good and Creme Brûlée. Really cool vibe with live music in the adjacent bar. We can't wait to go back😃
We were told of a "Speakeasy" type of restaurant near our hotel Sir Francis Drake and asked the concierge if he had any juice getting us in as we had tried for 5 days to make a reservation to no avail. He mentioned that he knew of a better one and it was only two blocks away. The Burritt Room and Tavern was just what we had in mind. We enjoyed a couple of their specialty "period" cocktails as we waited for our table. We enjoyed the squash lasagna and the chicken Airlie. Service was great and attentive all in a fun atmosphere. Definitely a hidden gem.
Loved the food, the service and the ambience. I had a reservation and was pleasantly surprised to find that our table was in a little semi private area. Almost like a private booth. That way we could still talk and hear other while enjoying the music from the main room. The cheese tots were fantastic, and so was the spinach pizza flatbread.
Excellent food! Had the tastiest roasted bone marrow I’ve ever had.
The service was awesome. The waiter was knowledgeable of the menu... and gave us some input on our order choices.
The live jazz music was a good addition to an already romantic ambiance.

This is a great little restaurant within a hotel. In the bar they had a jazz band playing which gave the place an atmosphere reminding us of an old movie. There were curtained booths in the room dating back to the 1930's when private business meetings could be conducted within. The food was very good - we had Wagyu steaks with sauce, roasted potatoes and spinach followed by a shared creme brulee. Our waiter was really good, friendly and efficient. It was busy and buzzy.
Great food. Service was terrific. Highly recommend - brought in a party of five with a reservation and had a terrific time! A nice touch - when they called to confirm our reservation, they asked if there were and food allergies in the group they should know about. The ambiance was great and everyone who came to our table was friendly, informative, knowledgeable and great! I’ll be back for sure!!
During our stay in SF we wanted to hear some live jazz music during dinner and Burritt Room was on a Top Ten list of jazz places to go in SF downtown/Union Square.
Great bartender, nice young band playing modern jazz and for once normal size portions (not XXXL) in the restaurant.

Picked up some out of town family and friends staying in Nob Hill area. Wanted them to enjoy some unique and vibrant flavors - Progressive American. Great selection and ambiance. Friendly and efficient service. Great place inside boutique hotel just across from convenient parking at Stockton Street Garage. Guests loved it!
Two of the entrees on the rather limited menu were not available so we opted for three apps. The beet salad was good, the wings were average, at best, and the flatbread was inedible. The crust was thick, doughy and very undercooked, so I had to return it. And unfortunately, there weren't any other items on the menu we wanted.
And although the employees were all very friendly, they weren't very efficient.
We came here before a show nearby. We shared about 9 small plates and entrees. All of the food was terrific. Our waiter was also the sommelier, which seemed odd but was OK. We ordered and 10 minutes passed and we were told the wine had arrived that day and someone had forgotten to chill it, so we had to order something different. They discounted the price to the level of the original bottle. It is sort of dark - could be lighter until later at night - but we like the food alot.
This was my second time here, and just like the first time all of the service staff were extremely friendly. My request for a table where a group of old friends could hear each other talk was honored. The food was very good and our waiter was very aware of how we were doing with our appetizer so that our entrees were delivered hot and at the perfect time. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants comfort food made with unique flavors. Tables are not crammed against each other and the curtained "rooms" are perfect for conversations with larger parties. I will definitely be back.
Not recommended. Went there on 7/18/17. Appetizers were ok. Entrees were poor. It seemed the so-called Wagyu was cooked in a fryer. It was tough. Took forever to get drinks. The server spilled food on the floor while clearing up the table. There was a band playing in the bar section and it was hard to hear others. Not something you'd expect from a Charlie Palmer restaurant.
I've been to the Burritt Room several times for drinks, and always loved the venue and the menu, but this was my first time having a meal there. The menu is creative, music spills in from the bar but it's still easy to converse, and the row of private nooks is a nice touch.
It's great location, decor appropriate to the building. We were seated promptly and given a choice of a couple of tables. Waiter was attentive and informative.
We had a couple of appetizers to share, I had the chicken, my partner the steak. The food was all very good, there was a longer wait between appetizer an main course, the waiter offered unsolicited apologies and comped us a round of drinks. Two large groups had arrived shortly after us....
