Buon Gusto Ratings and Reviews
Buon Gusto is a classic Italian restaurant with excellent food and a graceful ambience. The petrale sole melts in your mouth, and all pasta dishes are perfectly cooked and sauced just right. I've never had a bad meal here in the many years I've been frequenting it. The service is outstanding, and I recommend that you try the "Machievelli" chianti. At $64 a bottle it's pricey, but worth the money. This is a restaurant that is fit for any occasion. It's a South City favorite.
We have been to Buon Gusto many times for lunch and dinner, and we’ve always had great meals with excellent service. The food is always very good, and it is reminiscent of many trattorias at which we ate during a recent trip to Italy. They also do a great job with groups.
Buon Gusto is among my favorite local restaurants. It feels like a classic neighborhood Italian holdover from a different time, and I mean that in the most complimentary sense possible. I love that it feels so genuine, and the food happens to be wonderful as well.
The one thing that has really dropped its charm several points in the last few years (and has resulted in fewer visits by our family) is the inexplicably poor decision to mount a giant television over the otherwise magical and romantic dining room.
Such a place cannot simultaneously be both a classic enchanting dining destination, as well as a garish, cheap sports bar. It's absolutely awful when they turn this thing on and force us to share our relaxed and romantic meal with such a dissonant element as televised sports.
Please, leave the sports bar nonsense to Red Robin and Hooters, and just return to what has made Buon Gusto great, the food, the service, and THE ROMANTIC ATMOSPHERE!
Every time my wife and I fly out of San Francisco airport, we spend the night nearby and have dinner at Buon Gusto. The food is comfort Italian and is very good. We like the petrale sole and veal dishes. The wine list is small, but the Italian wines are very good. The restaurant is usually well attended and we call ahead for a reservation. The service is quite good, both efficient and friendly. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. By the way, the owner, Vinchinzo (spelling probably not correct) is an amazing magician and if asked will show you some very entertaining slight of hand.
A MUST visit Italian restaurant in South San Francisco. Vincenzo, the owner, assembles a menu of delectable seafood and pasta appetizers and entreés, a caring and family-oriented team of chefs, waiters and waitresses and is the conductor of it all. Ask Vincenzo about his magic trick?!?! Enjoy!!!
We did and made some new friends.
We had an overnight near the SF airport, and looked for a local restaurant. Buon Gusto was a great choice! My companions thought the soups were thin, but flavorful. We enjoyed a variety of entree choices; eggplant, veal, spaghetti and meatball (large meatball!) The wine was wonderful. We would definitely go again to Buon Gusto!
Ristorante Buon Gusto is most certainly a neighborhood gem. I thank the owners Julian and Vincenzo, our amazing bartender Basa and the entire staff for making my Mom's birthday feel like the special occasion it was for our entire group. The food is delicious, the service impeccable, and all served up with magical entertainment! Absolutely spectacular! We'll definitely be back.
We have been here many times and always enjoyed it. This time it was an awful experience. When we walked in the host (not the same in the past) seemed to have no clue what he was doing. When he finally sat us down we had to wait at least 5 min for menus which was "thrown" at us by the waitress. The salad was a bunch of lettuce, with 1 grape tomato, 1 olive and a spoon full of dressing the middle. The entrees were luke warm and not very flavorful. Wondering if ownership changed, wont be going back anytime soon
My second time there and it was good. I had them make me a plate of Puttanesca (not on the menu) and it was not quite what I expected, not enough red sauce but, it was tasty. Our server Natalie was very attentive, accommodating and personalable. Will keep going back with more family and friends. Thanks!
What a great find!! My husband and my last night in San Fran and through open table found this Resterant close to our airport hotel through the great reviews! Did not disappoint! We arrived a bit early so bellied up to the bar at this quaint, romantically lit Italian eatery we instantly fell in love with the owner Julian, and his daughter who tended the bar. As a result we dismissed our table for bar dining and had a wonderful and entertaining evening! The food was as great as the company. A really good value as each meal included a bowl of soup, I had minestrone to die for and my husband the split pea which was equally as good. I had the fish special which was perfect and had pasta with bolagnaise sauce instead of polenta which was so good. Hubby had lamb chops...suppose to be lamb shank but was mistakingly offered by the bartender, but was delish and he enjoyed regardless of error. All of in all, I can only say I wish there was Buon Gusto in our home town!! Authentic, delish and a good value. Next time we are in Cali would be our go to place from airport for sure!!👍👍
I walked to Buon Gusto from my airport hotel. A delightful surprise! VERY good food, casual but wonderfully attentive wait staff, nice vibe to the decor. And WONDERFULLY quiet: carpeting and acoustic ceiling tiles make this a place you can enjoy conversation with your meal, even if you have a party of 6. And it appears I am not the only one who likes this place...the medium sized dining room was full at 6:30 on a Monday night! I guess it is a neighborhood fave/secret. I highly recommend Buon Gusto!
A really great find discovered on the internet, as we were just overnite in South San Francisco and did not want to travel to the City. It looked good on internet, menu, ambiance, etc, and was everything we hoped for. Fair prices, excellent food, friendly staff. great Chianti and owner Julian is very nice . Definetly look forward to going again
