Carpaccio was tasty but tough. Grilled fish was good but prawns were a little overdone.
Promp and attentive service in a professional restaurant environment.
I had not been to B.G. for many, many years. I found it a mere shadow of what I remember of my visit in the 90s. Our waiter, while likely a very nice person is on auto-pilot, too intrusive with his opinion, sarcasm and honestly made the evening the opposite of what he may feel he's doing--making customers comfortable. It is not warm and welcoming, it is going through the motions. The linguine and clams was tasty, with fresh clams but the house wine was lacking. I would have chosen a glass had our server not imposed his opinion upon me. I took one sip of the cab and sent it back. My date actually did want a pina colata and was made to feel foolish to expect a blender drink, so got whiskey neat. The salad was swimming in dressing because I elected to have a little if the "housemade" viniagrette that tasted like jar and some bleu cheese. I wasn't signalling needing double the dressing which is why I usually ask for it on the side--I like it fairly dry. The bread was dried out and at least 2 days old. The herb oil for it, on the table tasted off and I've had and made many, once even made it regularly, as a server in a Houston Italian restaurant of long standing. It was uncomfortable, though we felt obliged to play along with the banal banter. I am a great cook myself. When I choose to go out, it is because I want to be attended to, have a decent bite and be able to spend time with my sweetheart. We kept our equilibrium but there is no reason to go back.
Fantastic food and Larry is a star! I loved the paper steak and the calamari was incredible!
Comfortable local spot, excellent food, reliable dining.
Fantastic meal. The owner performed magic for us and gave us a round of drinks because of a birthday. Easy to get to.
A perfect meal the night before our flight out of sfo.
Always a great stop for a casual dinner... a neighborhood gem
One of my favorite local restaurants. Great atmosphere, good for business, night out with friends, or a romantic evening. Food consistently good, and service too.
Food was AWESOME !!!
Great authentic Italian food. Neighborhood gem. Live this place
Buon Gusto is a SSF favorite. Will be glad to go back soon.
Always enjoy this old fashioned Italian restaurant—great food, warm hospitality, excellent service.
My friend and I have Been here 3-4 times in the past year for lunch and never had a bad meal or experience. The only difficulty we've had is sometimes finding parking in the area - not a problem caused by the restaurant.
Scallopine good, small portion. Minestrone soup very good. Spaghetti marinara tasted like Ragu. I didn’t see ravioli on menu
This is my "go to" place in SSF. Great food, quiet for a conversation. All around wonderful place.
Have been going here for years when flying into San Francisco. Prices have gone up but still good value and food is very good.
Nice background music, great service, very entertaining host. Impressive food.
Always a very comfortable dining experience...Food never disappoints....A very friendly staff...and a nice surprise at the end of each meal...
The wine list drew us in. The food and service brought us back. The owner took good care of us and when we ordered a "digestivo," he brought us what we ordered and a taste of his favorite as well. Worth the hour drive from SanJose. I will go back to try more Italian wine!
The service was very good, the staff was very responsive and courteous. I found that the tomato sauce was very acidic for the lasagna....it almost reminded me of Hunt's out of a can. One of my favorites is olive oil and balsamic to dip the bread, however no balsamic ever showed. The grated parmesan cheese looked and tasted pre-packaged. I would recommend this to a friend with the caveat that there is better close by.
This was a great place for birthday dinner. The host and servers were fabulous, the ambiance was just right, and the food was delish! Great place if your in the mood for a romantic dinner and family reunions etc.
Excellent food and service. Loved the homemade Lasagna
Food was great!
HORRIBLE service! Treated us like our business wasn’t important to us. Server ignored us for 20 minutes then when our food finally arrived we were very underwhelmed. Prego in a jar would be better too bad we had to pay $100 to figure that out!!
Soup for 2 of our party was returned - lack of flavor and very watery and diluted. Each house salad had a few different ingredients and the dressing was weak and not flavorful. The main courses also were not of the quality of our many previous visits. Very disappointing !
We have eaten here several times...the food is good and the staff are great....Warm and friendly and attentive. That along with the food brings us back.
Excellent service, paired with amazing food and wine. Definitely a repeat.
Food was great. Authentic Italian family recipes. Lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan were tasty. Server made it a good experience.
We had a late lunch at Buon Gusto's one afternoon after we had attended a funeral. The owner was a joy. He seated the 6 of us at a big round table with lots of room. He made sure we got our drinks and lunch quickly and cooked to perfection. He was very kind and knew just when we needed something and when we didn't. He served small glasses of Marsala wine after dessert (on the house). There was no food left on the plates when we left, and we all felt a little bit better for having such wonderful food and great service. After the funeral service, we all needed some TLC.
I always feel guilty ordering a steak when I dine at an Italian restaurant with great traditional Italian food but their filet mignon is second to none even at twice the price. I bring my extended family here when they come to visit but primarily our visit is for my fourteen year old granddaughter who just loves steak. I've dined at many places far more expensive but this local gem is my favorite restaurant no matter what the price. Always look forward to future dining visits and chats with the owner about our passion for Ferraris.
Been going here since it opened. This time requested a small pasta dish for my granddaughter.
Was not happy seeing $9.25 on my bill for a 1/2 order pasta.
I think its best I take my family elsewhere.
My wife and I have dined at Buon Gusto many times and we've never been disappointed. The food and service are always exceptional. I wanted to mention this visit in particular. The restaurant was very busy. We had made a reservation for two and ended up bringing another person along. This proved no problem even though they were busy and crowded. The food and service were just as good as ever.
Had a lovely lunch with friends. Service was nicely paced and our server, Larry, was great! Saltimbocca was absolutely delicious. Others reported that the petroleum and calamari steak were equally tasty. Drinks are generous and the wine list offers a nice selection. The gift of Marsala to finish your meal is a very nice touch.
Would definitely recommend Buon Gusto!
Cute Italian restaurant. My linguine tutto mare was delicious.
Not really helpful staff, we were able to order food almost in 30 minutes after we arrived. Food was kinda strange (not everything, but sweet carbonara.. hmmm...). It was difficult also to catch our waiter
Absolutely fabulous! Old school made anew...
fifty characters is alot to ask, when the dining experience can be summed up in so few words.
Excellent... from greeting to service to cocktails to winelist, to fine ingredients and chef preparation and presentation. I enjoy the pastas and seafood. The veal dishes are superb.
Our group enjoyed the delicious food. The service is a little bit slow. Maybe they're short of staff or we came at the busy time? I'll give it another try next time.
Buon Gusto is a classic Italian restaurant with excellent food and a graceful ambience. The petrale sole melts in your mouth, and all pasta dishes are perfectly cooked and sauced just right. I've never had a bad meal here in the many years I've been frequenting it. The service is outstanding, and I recommend that you try the "Machievelli" chianti. At $64 a bottle it's pricey, but worth the money. This is a restaurant that is fit for any occasion. It's a South City favorite.
Our waiter didn’t know what gluten was and joked that the chef on duty wouldn’t know either😮 even when their menu says gluten free pasta options available....but otherwise fine.
