Buon Gusto Ratings and Reviews
Soup for 2 of our party was returned - lack of flavor and very watery and diluted. Each house salad had a few different ingredients and the dressing was weak and not flavorful. The main courses also were not of the quality of our many previous visits. Very disappointing !
We had a late lunch at Buon Gusto's one afternoon after we had attended a funeral. The owner was a joy. He seated the 6 of us at a big round table with lots of room. He made sure we got our drinks and lunch quickly and cooked to perfection. He was very kind and knew just when we needed something and when we didn't. He served small glasses of Marsala wine after dessert (on the house). There was no food left on the plates when we left, and we all felt a little bit better for having such wonderful food and great service. After the funeral service, we all needed some TLC.
I always feel guilty ordering a steak when I dine at an Italian restaurant with great traditional Italian food but their filet mignon is second to none even at twice the price. I bring my extended family here when they come to visit but primarily our visit is for my fourteen year old granddaughter who just loves steak. I've dined at many places far more expensive but this local gem is my favorite restaurant no matter what the price. Always look forward to future dining visits and chats with the owner about our passion for Ferraris.
My wife and I have dined at Buon Gusto many times and we've never been disappointed. The food and service are always exceptional. I wanted to mention this visit in particular. The restaurant was very busy. We had made a reservation for two and ended up bringing another person along. This proved no problem even though they were busy and crowded. The food and service were just as good as ever.
Had a lovely lunch with friends. Service was nicely paced and our server, Larry, was great! Saltimbocca was absolutely delicious. Others reported that the petroleum and calamari steak were equally tasty. Drinks are generous and the wine list offers a nice selection. The gift of Marsala to finish your meal is a very nice touch.
Would definitely recommend Buon Gusto!
Absolutely fabulous! Old school made anew...
fifty characters is alot to ask, when the dining experience can be summed up in so few words.
Excellent... from greeting to service to cocktails to winelist, to fine ingredients and chef preparation and presentation. I enjoy the pastas and seafood. The veal dishes are superb.
Buon Gusto is a classic Italian restaurant with excellent food and a graceful ambience. The petrale sole melts in your mouth, and all pasta dishes are perfectly cooked and sauced just right. I've never had a bad meal here in the many years I've been frequenting it. The service is outstanding, and I recommend that you try the "Machievelli" chianti. At $64 a bottle it's pricey, but worth the money. This is a restaurant that is fit for any occasion. It's a South City favorite.
We have been to Buon Gusto many times for lunch and dinner, and we’ve always had great meals with excellent service. The food is always very good, and it is reminiscent of many trattorias at which we ate during a recent trip to Italy. They also do a great job with groups.
Buon Gusto is among my favorite local restaurants. It feels like a classic neighborhood Italian holdover from a different time, and I mean that in the most complimentary sense possible. I love that it feels so genuine, and the food happens to be wonderful as well.
The one thing that has really dropped its charm several points in the last few years (and has resulted in fewer visits by our family) is the inexplicably poor decision to mount a giant television over the otherwise magical and romantic dining room.
Such a place cannot simultaneously be both a classic enchanting dining destination, as well as a garish, cheap sports bar. It's absolutely awful when they turn this thing on and force us to share our relaxed and romantic meal with such a dissonant element as televised sports.
Please, leave the sports bar nonsense to Red Robin and Hooters, and just return to what has made Buon Gusto great, the food, the service, and THE ROMANTIC ATMOSPHERE!
Every time my wife and I fly out of San Francisco airport, we spend the night nearby and have dinner at Buon Gusto. The food is comfort Italian and is very good. We like the petrale sole and veal dishes. The wine list is small, but the Italian wines are very good. The restaurant is usually well attended and we call ahead for a reservation. The service is quite good, both efficient and friendly. I would certainly recommend this restaurant. By the way, the owner, Vinchinzo (spelling probably not correct) is an amazing magician and if asked will show you some very entertaining slight of hand.
A MUST visit Italian restaurant in South San Francisco. Vincenzo, the owner, assembles a menu of delectable seafood and pasta appetizers and entreés, a caring and family-oriented team of chefs, waiters and waitresses and is the conductor of it all. Ask Vincenzo about his magic trick?!?! Enjoy!!!
We did and made some new friends.
We had an overnight near the SF airport, and looked for a local restaurant. Buon Gusto was a great choice! My companions thought the soups were thin, but flavorful. We enjoyed a variety of entree choices; eggplant, veal, spaghetti and meatball (large meatball!) The wine was wonderful. We would definitely go again to Buon Gusto!
