Bullfinchs Ratings and Reviews
Bullfinch's is a neighborhood gem in Sudbury. The Richardson's have operated the restaurant forever (well, for at least 25 years) and have always had the highest standards. The dining room is decorated in a muted theme, but very elegant. The food is excellent, and chef Scott conducts cooking classes almost every Tuesday evening (reservations required). We go there 3 or 4 times a year as a special treat.
The before u order bread/muffins option were puny and ok. The beef tenderloin hash with poached eggs was bad.. salty , stringy meat. Hollín Daisy was good and music was nice but tables so close together u felt like they were in your lap. Waiter was attentive.
The appetizer (goat cheesy fries) and salads (beet salad and warm apple salad) were very good but the entrees were awful. The short ribs bolognese had way too many chunks of uncooked tomatoes in it. The other entree (special salmon cake) was both fishy and flavorless. I have not had such a bad meal in a long time. Bullfinchs was a huge disappointment.
This was our first visit. The restaurant had good energy, but wasn't overly loud. The bar was quite crowded and it looked like a good happy hour crowd.
The food was terrific and our server was outstanding. We were celebrating a birthday and he helped make it a very special occasion. We will definitely return.
We hadn't been to Bullfinches in a few years and I doubt we'll be back. It took forever for drinks to make it to us, two of our 4-person group's meals were prepared badly - as if our meat done-ness wasn't even read off the server's notes (rare lamp chops aren't dry and gray) and while they were re-done, by the time we two ate our re-made entrees our two friends were long finished. It's an expensive place to eat, and it's just not up to the standard those prices command. It's a shame, really. We want to patronize our in-town establishments but it's got to be worth it to us and this wasn't where it needed to be.
We went for Sunday brunch and the service was slow. We waited well over 5 minutes for someone to come to our table after we were seated and another 15 minutes to get our bloody marys, by then the ice had melted and the drinks were watered down, they clearly had been sitting at the bar for ages. The food is good but the portions are shrinking and they haven't really changed the menu in years. I'd love to see a re-vamp. We have so few good restaurants in the area.
The food was not only tasty but there was live music. I met a friend for brunch so at times it was hard to talk since the restaurant is small and music was loud.
I had an omelet, toast and coffee. A nice touch of sweet treats of small breakfast breads with jam when you are seated.a
My husband and I met friends here for dinner. All four of us really enjoyed our dishes. Two of us had evening specials and two of us ordered from the menu. The fall roasted vegetables were delicious. The tables are a bit close together, but the restaurant is a great spot and we will come again!
Touted as one of Top 5 Brunch spots in New England which is a high mark to reach and they didn’t. Nice atmosphere but the food was just good, not delectable, and the service was slow and only adequate.
Sudbury doesn’t offer better alternatives, but to call it a top regional spot is a stretch. The Bristol Lounge could clean its clock anyday.
We always enjoy our visits. This time was no different. The food and service are great. I love that they offer smaller portion option too!
This time the bar was crowded and noisy and the bartenders didn’t seem very aware of customers waiting who were not sitting at the bar. There are nice window seats to enjoy a drink too so that you are not standing ~ so outreach beyond those seated at the bar Ithink would go a long way in customer appreciation.
I’ll be back soon.
I have been dining at Bullfinchs for many years, and I am amazed that it has been able to maintain its fantastic qualities as the years have gone by. Guests are always welcomed in a friendly manner. The food is presented beautifully, and is consistently delicious!
One thing that I especially like is that there are many dinners that come in large or small portions. Very often, if I bring leftovers home from other restaurants, they end up in the refrigerator wasteland and are never eaten.
Lastly, the decor is always understated and lovely, with a special ambience which makes for a relaxing experience.
Bullfinchs is a gem!
A friend and I met here for dinner. We hadn't seen each other in a few years and the relaxing atmosphere made this the perfect place to catch up on our lives. Our server, Tim, was attentive, engaging, and never rushed us - he was terrific! I had the beet salad and the vegetable dumplings and both were delicious. This is a great place to wind down after a long day!
My girlfriend and I went here last night for dinner. First time here. Great ambiance. Delectable food. The vegetable dumplings and baked Brie were delicious appetizers.
I had the short rib bolognese and my girlfriend had the pecan chicken. While the bolognese was different from expectations, it was certainly delicious. My girlfriend fully enjoyed her chicken (I can vouch for that as I had a bite).
Another cool little touch albeit a tad on the high price side was wine flights. I always love a good flight.
For dessert, I had the muddy boots ice cream and she had the flourless chocolate cake. Both were great.
All in all a great night out to a place I'll come back to in the future.
My wife and I dine at Bullfinches about once a month and always on Valentine’s Day. We brought my cousin and his wife for dinner. Haven’t seen him for 57 years the restaurant could not have been more perfect for we were able to catch up over excellent food and great service.
Had seen/heard about Bullfinch's for many years, but had never made the trip out there. Was very pleasantly surprised. Jazz music playing at just the right volume to provide ambiance but not so loud as to be distracting. They were offering flights of three reds from the Pacific Northwest, which were all quite good. Liked how they served coarse sea salt with the bread. I had the short ribs bolognese. Meat was very tender. I've had better bolognese -- favorites are Prezza in North End and old 51 Lincoln and Newton Highlands, but it was solid. My wife had the black and blue filet, which she liked. I plan to try their Sunday brunch, and also want to checking out the weeknight cooking classes. Good stuff!
Three friends getting together - excellent meal - excellent service. We shared the baked brie and the bean spread appetizers, great. I chose the salmon special which was very good but not outstanding. My friends requests for substitutions on a dish were met and improved upon.
The Jack Lantern cocktails with fresh pumpkin were outstanding. Afigatos completed the meal for all 3 of us. This was our second party as a group at Bullfinchs, everbody was very happy.
Love this restaurant! I used to eat here a lot, but moved away. Was excited to try it again, and was not disappointed. We went for Sunday brunch, and there was live music. The music was great, but a bit loud, so Sunday is not the day for quiet intimate conversation. Great for a group, small or large. Lots of good menu choices, and the chef is even willing to make reasonable changes. We had 4 distinctly different eating styles among the 6 of us, and everyone got something they were happy with. To top it off, the service was fabulous.
Had a terrific experience at Bullfinch's for our anniversary! Wait staff was great and they even set up a special table for us. Along with the complimentary desert for our anniversary the food was great! Would recommend it for any type of dining. They had plenty of options for both non-
vegetarians and vegetarians alike.
It was nice enough, but the food was just okay. We got there and they stuck us in a corner so close to another table that the lady at the other table had to actually be moved for me to get up to use the restroom.
The server was nice. The food was prettty. It tastes good, but nothing knocked my socks off and I wouldn’t go out there again. Maybe sitting on the patio would be nicer? It looked pretty.
I had a good experience, but likely would try other new places before coming back here.
I found the service to be top notch. my party ended up being 6 people and we all enjoyed the service, the food and those who had a drink loved that, I loved my coffee. Paul Broadnax and Peter Kontrimas were playing wonderful old time jazz...couldn't have been nicer.
