Bulldog Ale House - State St.
The Impossible burgers was really good! The White Dog beer was perfect and only $6 for a 32 oz. Waitress even let us get samples of a couple before we commit to our beer.
I will not be returning to Bulldog again. We had a reservation for 7:15 and arrived on time. Upon arrival, the host told us that they would not honor the reservation. He was very rude. We left. This is not the first time I have had a bad experience. The bartenders and servers have also been rude and the food is awful. Do not waste your time.
Never got to even eat there. The air conditioning was broke so while it was about 80 degrees outside, it was like 100 degrees inside. They could not honor our reservation with outside seating - presumably because they couldn’t seat anyone inside. They tried though, and we only mildly annoyed/rude about it so that was worth a couple stars I guess.
Pretty average bar with pretty average food. The highlight is that they have a nice patio to sit on outside.
We went here before a concert and had reservations. We arrived early and were seated immediately. We informed the waiter we had theater tickets. Everything went downhill from there. It wasn’t crowded when we got there but still took 45 minutes to get sandwiches and all the entrees didn’t arrive at the same time. The waiter tried his best but probably were issues in the kitchen. We ended up having 10 minutes to eat. Food was ok but we won’t come back again.
Out of experience was awful here.
Made a reservation several hours in advance. When we showed up at the restaurant, they told us they weren’t honoring online reservations and they weren’t taking any more people this evening. Very poor service and attitude.
We had a 6:30pm reservation and when we showed up, we were told they were no longer seating anyone. We told them we had a reservation, and the response was that it didn’t matter.
I went before heading to a concert. We booked a reservation on open table the day before. When I get there it’s crowded and the front desk tells me my reservation is no good because “too many people were walking in to eat”.....that doesn’t make any sense. That’s why I made a reservation..so I could RESERVE a table.
We had to wait by the bar and finally got a seat at the bar after 30-45 min and was able to order food. However, the kitchen was “backed up” so we actually never got to eat at the bar. Luckily, the bartender was a hero and did not make me pay and apologized 10 times for the service. He actually caught me on the way out with my sandwich in a to-go box. He’s the only reason I had somewhat of an ok experience.
Overall, don’t go here and they should be giving that bartender a raise.
Except that they wouldn’t honor our reservation it was a great experience even though we waited at least an hour for our food...however they waitress was great and she told us up front that the kitchen was backed up due to the Stones concert so we would come back.
We arrived for 5:30 reservation, specifically made because we were attending a concert that evening and didn’t have time to waste. The line for checking in was very slow and long. When we could finally check in they told us they didn’t have a reservation. So, I showed them my reservation confirmation and they then proceeded to attempt to add us to a waitlist. We said we didn’t have time for a waitlist, this is why we had made a reservation. They told us their kitchen was slammed and the manager told them not to seat anyone. This defeats the purpose of a reservation- we walked out. Very disappointing, because we were excited to try the restaurant.
Went here before concert at Soldier Field. They seemed short of help once bar/restaurant tables were filled. We kept reordering chicken wings and jalapeño poppers since they were tasty. Our waitress sometimes acted disinterested in waiting on us and had no personality. We had a reservation thru OpenTable but the person at the front of the restaurant told us they don’t take reservations. Thankfully, it was early and restaurant still had many open tables.
I made the res and my buddy did not want to go since he saw very bad service reviews on a site. I googled and there were a few bad service reviews but overall it was good. I convinced him and his wife to go and we were heading to Stones concert. 5:30 res and by 7:30 still no food! We kept drinking and had asked several times prior “where is our food?” Server said that they are so busy due to concert, but by 7:30 most of the fans had left for the concert and we still had no food. Mgr said sorry and checked on food and still nothing. Food finally came and it was cold!!!! How is that possible. Cannot give any positive rating when there are so many places like them. DON’T GO HERE!
We got our whole check comped, but it is not enough to get me back here. Not worth it at all. there is really no excuse for that type of service.
Horrible service. Not enough staff
Took over 2 hours to get some burgers and 3 were messed up
Would NOT go back
The food here was fine, but the service was spotty. The staff was nice, but inexperienced and did not seem to know what they were doing. Also, when I tried to check in with my Open Table reservation, the front desk told me that they did not take reservations. The place could use a little more organization.
The staff had no idea that the restaurant uses Open Table. No reservations necessary.
The food was excellent. The service was very good. The drinks were tasty, but had way too much ice in them. I had a Cherry (moonshine) Coke, hubby had an American Mule. Three sips in, & we were down to a cupful of ice (I actually took a pic of mine to post. It was such a disappointment-both drinks were delicious for a minute .... but then the ice was too much.
Good food great staff Relaxed atmosphere with good food ,plenty of screens to watch sport
