We arrived 10mins b4 our reservation and walked into a empty restaurant...then a young man came and asked were we there for the Baby Shower. Needless to say we left.
Note: prior to making reservations with opentable , my wife and I tried calling several times, but to no avail No Answer. This place has no professionalism whatsoever.
We arrived at the restaurant after confirming reservations and they were closed. Please update Open Table so the others are aware. We tried unsuccessfully to reach the restaurant to no avail. Very disappointing and frustrating!
Second time here- really nice vibe, the jerk chicken was delicious.
Food was very good, although the server was either uninterested or unable to explain several menu items to us and they did not have several items on the menu. There were two other tables with guests when we sat down. Despite that, service was inattentive- probably because the three people working the floor were on their cell phones the whole time (not sure the bartender ever looked up). Drinks (we ordered their special punch and another fruity concoction) were sickly sweet and we chose not to drink them (literally a first). We had the chicken curry and shrimp with pepper. Both were good, and portions were huge. The mac and cheese was also good, but very smokey and clearly not vegetarian. Not sure what vibe they were going for but the decor was dance club meets ocean meets banquet hall. Overall, good food at an otherwise odd place.
When we walked into the restaurant the hostess was on the phone. She continued to have a phone conversation while she sat us at a table and told us to “hold a minute.”
The host went to clean the next table, walked to the kitchen and back to the host stand when she finally got off of her phone. At the host stand she began to talk to a friend about a party happening soon.
When the host finally came back to the table she took our drinks (it took about 5-10 min for water).
When the host came back with our other drinks we began to order and she told me to hold on. She yelled across to the bar and said, “what don’t we have today?”
We left afterward and we will not be returning.
Outstanding! My husband and I plan on going back weekly!
The service was great!!! The food and drinks were fantastic!!! We will definitely be back!!!
Good good at a good price
Beautiful, upscale restaurant with delicious authentic Jamaican cuisine. Great Caribbean band made the evening a lot of fun!
The food was excellent!! I was however disappointed that it was very empty for a Saturday evening. It was also very very cold in the restaurant. Other than that I enjoyed my visit and will definitely be back.
Restaurant is closed
Great service, really nice ambience, and excellent food.
Yummy authentic Caribbean cuisine. Enjoyed whole snapper with brown sauce (mild kick), wellmade brussels sprouts, fish soup , finished ice cream on warm plantains. Nice & expedient service!
Got there early for brunch. Waitress was extremely helpful and courteous. Food came quickly.
Good food reasonable priced but the wait staff and bar maid have no concept of service. Place not well kept. Door lock didn't work. Empty bottles in the back. These folks have no business running restaurant in center city Wilmington
Service was good, but food was not great. I asked for ackee patty and fried dumpling and both apparently are only available at brunch on weekends, seemed a little odd. Curry chicken was good and flavourful but the stew chicken was not good, just a sweet sauce with no traditional jamaincan flavours.
Will say their sorrel was good.
As always excellent
When 1st got there, their where no customers and the place was open for away which made me think it was something wrong. People finally came in as I was about to leave. Started dining at 7:30pm. The food was fair.
Been some time since I've enjoyed island food. Flavors were well developed without being overpowering....just enough heat. Coconut rice was cooked perfectly as were the shrimp. Beer and wine choices limited and decor dated, but for me it is about the food. A little work on the ambiance and drink choices and this place would be 5 star. If in the area I will return.
Food was excellent. Service was wonderful! Great value. Highly recommended!
Even though they were low on staff, we were served immediately. The waitress was kind and checked up on us. We met the chefs. They were extremely nice. The restaurant was absolutely beautiful. And to top it all of, the food was amazing! I can not wait to go back.
Must check out. Food was amazing!!!! They ran out of some dishes but the food was made from scratch and absolutely amazing. Service was a bit slow but Understandable some all is made from scratch. Highly recommend. Goat curry was delicious. Can’t wait to come again!!!
Service was slow. Wait staff was helpful and friendly. They didnt have several items on the menu.
Food was good, excellent service. I would return again
The food was delicious. Most definitely nice portion sizes. Our waiter was very attentive and polite. Will definitely visit again.
The food was good. Even so, if it hadn't been Mother's Day, I would have walked out. We were there for 2 hours and 30 minutes for dinner and dessert. We didn't get drinks for almost an hour. To be honest, the portion sizes were good and we left full. And the Hostess comped us two drinks. The prices were reasonable. But when I got back home and checked my bill, my Waitress charged me for food that I didn't receive. One part of me wants to go back on a good day and try again. The other part wants to stay away.
AMAZING food and huge portions! Will definitely be back again and again.
3 generations get together! We have brunch and then go see a show at the Playhouse on Rodney Squarr!
Tasty, well-prepared Caribbean meals that probably cannot be found elsewhere in Wilmington. The service needs improvement -- too slow, and the server brought me the wrong meal, which, however, tasted great. The shrimp and chicken dishes were both excellent. Note that the recently opened Mid-town Park Garage is next door. We parked for $1, using their introductory rate.
I chose this restaurant for the Caribbean flavor. I was not disappointed! I had the Oxtail and Goat Curry. (They were so accommodating letting me do half/half) It was so tender and flavorful! The service was so friendly and welcoming. Absolutely loved it. It was a little slow to get our food but well worth the wait!
Service was absolutely wonder and food was delicious.
While I lived my dinner, when we arrived it was practically empty yet they were out of several items on the menu. Our server was less than friendly, one of the cooks had to come out of the kitchen to ask a question about our order, she never asked if we wanted dessert or coffee and then tried to take our half full drinks when she dropped the check. I would suggest the bar or getting food to go.
The food was excellent. I had the jerk chicken which was spiced just right! Our server was very attentive. I highly recommend the specialty drinks as they really setoff the meal!! Great place for a date.
We (4 of us) all had a good dining experience. Loved the salmon soup and Jerk Chicken.
Will definitely go back.
The finest Caribbean cuisine ever! Everything we ate was perfect from salmon soup (just the right amount of spice), homemade dressing (just the right amount of savory) on an interesting side salad, fried chicken (unbelievably delicious) with tasty cabbage plus rice and beans, stewed pulled chicken like your Jamaican grandmother makes, and crab cakes to rival the best domestic crab cakes ever! Waitstaff is interested and caring. Chef owner is highly talented, culinarily imaginative, caring and capable. He even brought us 3 DELICIOUS frozen desserts with the perfect amount of cinnamon and spice as a to go surprise when he realized it was my birthday. Then he even walked us nearly back to our hotel to be sure we were safe on the late evening weekday. If we didn't leave in chicago we would dine here every week!
Excellent and friendly service. Crab cake salad and curry goat are flavorful and delicious. Will be back.
A great find, unfortunately not found by many as we were the only diners on a Thursday night. People at the bar and visitors for takeout did liven things up. Space, formerly occupied by several other restaurants, has been very nicely renovated. Tables have white linen and are well spaced. Very comfortable booths in bar area. Our waiter was charming and very helpful. His frequent visits were welcome but might perhaps been less frequent had there been more customers. The food is the key, well done, well presented and flavors unusual for this area. Amusing menu. We started by sharing two crab cakes which were pleasantly seasoned and came with two knockout sauces. Entrees include a small side salad, a choice from several rice varieties and a vegetable so are a good value. We had oxtail and jerk pork. Both delicious. The dishes were well cooked and nicely seasoned and came again with a knock-your-socks-off sauce. Nice way of doing things as the customer can decide how hot to make it. Portions were large, I had enough to take home for a great lunch the next day. Overall the food and service deserve five stars. Only thing that keeps it from five stars overall is the extremely limited wine list. This is a great new restaurant with new and exciting flavors which deserves to survive. Unfortunately the city of Wilmington has not helped by ripping up 9th street. Easy walking distance to Grand Opera and Hotel DuPont with parking nearby.
The food was really good. They had a live band that was really good also. Unfortunately, we couldn't stay to listen the whole set. The staff was very friendly...again the food was delicious.
This restaurant was very good, with even greater potential. The lunch menu had a range of choices. Each of the four of us ordered something different (I had Curried Goat – yum!) and all enjoyed it. Our waitress was friendly and welcoming, as was the décor/atmosphere.
Two disappointments that are easy fixes: 1) no wine selection, and the waitress wasn’t even sure they had any. She was able to bring 4 glasses of white (Pinot Grigio), and while appreciated, not what we would prefer; 2) no dessert selection. Offered only fried plantains and so we opted for none. This new place is only one block from the theatre, full of ladies like us. For Wednesday matinee, nearly all go to either lunch before the show or dinner after (or both!). They might consider “Matinee Specials” to attract this crowd. The food is great! Have wine and dessert at the ready. That said, we recommend Bull Bay and WE will go back.
GO TO THIS RESTAURANT! Fabulous food and service. Isaac (Ike) was our server -- he was delightful -- entertaining (stand up comic entertaining) and knowledgable about the food choices, with excellent recommendations. We ordered an appetizer of jerk chicken wings. On a prior visit during brunch, jerk seasoned food was not available -- but the chef (Mark) cooked us up some samples of the jerk chicken wings and gave us them for take out. They were divine then -- and they were divine again as an appetizer. The right amount of heat with savory spicy flavor. For our entree, we both ordered jerk shrimp (off the menu -- but when we were there for brunch, the chef promised us he would cook them up when we came back) served with rice and peas and salad. The salad had a delightfully tangy home made citrusy dressing - they should sell it separately! The jerk shrimp entree was just as good as the jerk chicken wings. Spicy and savory - but there is some heat so if you don't like spicy, you might want to ask for less heat. We love spicy food. Lots of large shrimp in this dish. The rice and peas were a lovely complement to the heat of the shrimp and the sautéed cabbage was delectable also. Sadly there were no plantains when we were there -- but having had them before during brunch, I know they too are excellent. For dessert, Ike suggested the "dropper" - their signature dessert. It is plantains flambeed with rum and sugar -- and ice cream with a home made caramel sauce. Exquisite! Chef Mark made the rounds at the tables - greeting everyone with his gregarious personality -- as I'm guessing he normally does since we've met him each time we've been there. Haven't had Jamaican food this good since Gabay closed his Wilmington restaurant several years ago. We will be back!
