Builders Arms Hotel Bistro
The Bistro is our welcoming dining room offering generous table service and a menu focused on classic, seasonal dishes with our wood-fired rotisserie informing much of what we cook. Expect pub classics, seasonal specials, dishes to share, oysters, charcuterie, and everything that relaxed dining and drinking calls for.
The Bistro is open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday and lunch Friday to Sunday.
Dinner Wednesday - Sunday: 5:00pm - 10:30pm
The Public Bar is the casual area of Builders Arms and offers the same menu which you can order over the counter; the perfect accompaniment to the extensive options available from the beer, cocktail and wine list. There’s plenty of room to just drop in and enjoy the pub vibes!
Tram 11 from Collins Street (Stop #13)
I wish my chef friend didn't recommend we leave our original venue to come here for dinner. I think it's because they're part of some sort of hospo group with a good name - i wasn't impressed. Poor ambience and unfortunately, the service from one particular male waiter wasn't up to scratch. Didn't seem interested in being at work and it transpired into his lack of enthusiasm. Wish we stayed at the pub up the road where the ambience was chilled and friendly. I won't make this mistake again. Best to save your hard earned dollars for something else!
Great food and service but way to loud very hard to have a conversation
Excellent food, do try the wood fired cauliflower. Probably not the greatest restaurant for a date night as quite noisy. Staff were great and dishes came out steadily.
Great meal, restaurant a bit noisy but food was great and good value, would go again soon.
Loved this place , decor is cool staff very friendly and efficient and above all the food was different and very tasty!
Love Ricky and pinky but on Friday night we had the cauliflower dish - frankly that should not be served anywhere, terrible dish.
As we are regulars, maybe we should have been asked why we only ate a little and was there a problem?? We only ordered two dishes so it would seem odd that we did not eat it.
We were going to order dinner - but as we were really put off by the cauliflower dish and no one asked us why we did not eat it - we left.
Wonderful night, excellent service and delicious food thank you!!
Great food we all really enjoyed our meal. limited menu - and was very noisy
Went there with friends on a Saturday night.
The food was good, portion size a bit small but it all tasted great.
The main issue there is the poor acoustics - it was hard to have a conversation without screaming (and we were on one of the smallest round table).
Wouldn’t go back for that reason and because of a price not justified.
We went there with no preconceived ideas but were pleasantly surprised by the quality of food.
It is not typical Chinese but modernised Chinese food with a twist.
Services was very good. Saturday lunch time was not busy.
We had an enjoyable lunch with friends for our 2 hours stay.
Had the set menu for a party of 6. Second time we've done that. Last time was about a year ago. Excellent food both times.
Fabulous food , wonderful service.
We had a lovely experience on Sunday celebrating an engagement. George was fantastic. We had yummy wine, and great service. We asked our waiter to pick the food for us, a 'feed me' type set up, and it was fantastic. Every dish was delicious and so much food. Love our fortune cookie at the end too. Would highly recommend it, and will definitely be back. Thanks
We wanted 6 things off the menu and the wait staff offered to provide half servings so we could try all the things we want and not feel too full. Everything was gorgeous but the lamb bao is mandatory!!
We expected more from the food, which we found was a bit boring for a McConnell restaurant. We were just disappointed, it was a Sunday afternoon and maybe we ordered badly. The wine was amazing and the staff were very generous and spent lots of time looking after us.
Great food and attentive service but too noisy. Also too many kids off the leash on a Friday night.
service was lacking, kept having to find the waiter to order another wine!!!and it wasnt very busy.
Great food and staff were very attentive ... quiet night so lacked some ambience
Na. Over priced.
Food was very tasty. Not a large menu for a picky eater but managed to find something to eat and it was superb! Ill go again when next in Melbourne.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented, but some more advice about dishes which were going to take a long time would have helped our hungry kids.
And $18 for a ‘cocktail’ which looked the same as my child’s fruit juice was a bit rich.
Great food and great service. They were able to accommodate food requirements and everything was delicious. Fantastic night!
Had such a great night out with friends here! Service and food were amazing! Although the menu is quite meat heavy the staff and kitchen were so good at accommodating with vegetarian and vegan dietary requirements, and made up super delicious food alterations. Would definitely recommend and will be back again soon. Oh and the mood lighting; amazing.
Lovely Sunday afternoon lazy lunch with great food and wine, well paced and attentive service.
Great from start to finish, great atmosphere, staff are friendly and knowledgeable and the food was fantastic - a great way to do yum cha
Awesome food, awesome service!
Will definitely be back!
Hmmm! Visually great, acoustically horrible, cannot see or hear the person sitting across the table. Food wise for value, average at best and certainly do not justify the mid-high range price,. Restaurant staff very friendly and great service, not so bar staff...to much hipster cool attitude. Overall very disappointing given rave reviews that got me to book
We had a wonderful lunch at Ricky & Pinky. The yum cha lunch had a great range of yum cha favourites - all of super high quality. Flavours were amazing. The cocktail list had us trying as many as we could. Service was excellent.
Banquet was very good -service - nice wine - touch noisy
The food was excellent as was the service but the restaurant was far too noisy to have a good conversation - wouldn’t recommend for a romantic couples night out
We went out for a chinese new year lunch as a family. Unfortunately, we did not enjoy the meal. Any celebratory or festive atmosphere was missing from the restaurant. The dish we enjoyed most was the fried rice and the complimentary pickles. We did not enjoy most of the dim sum. The siew mai we found to be dry and did not appear appetising, the yellow skin to be dark and mottled. The rice noodle/cheung fun was too firm without the melt in your mouth feel I would have expected at this proposed level of dining. The egg tart was not enjoyable. The filling was sunken and was grey in colour, not the expected bright vibrant yellow. It was also served cold evidently not fresh out of the oven. Particularly at these price points, 5 dollars for a slightly smaller than average tart, one would not unreasonably expect fresher warmer tarts. Perhaps I should have raised this issue directly with the staff when we were there but we didn't find the opportunity too nor did the staff ask us how our meal was going. To improve I would recommend more quality control on the food coming out of the kitchen.
Thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Ricky & Pinky - great setting, food was creative and excellent and the service outstanding!
Excellent food the lamb is delicious. Great service
Yummy food. Dumplings delicious. Good atmosphere. Recommend.
My only criticism of the restaurant was the noise. We were at a round table but it was still quite difficult to hear conversation. The staff were excellent however it was difficult to hear their menu and wine suggestions.
We come here for everyday dining as well as special occasions. The food is authentic and delicious with a modern twist. Servings are not large but are adequate all the same.
- All dishes were delicious, though slightly small servings.
- Beautiful setting / gorgeous furniture.
- Staff were efficient.
- Would dine here again but possibly save for a special occasion due to VFM.
Surprisingly quiet for Sunday lunch but good ambiance, friendly staff and delicious food. Yum cha but not as we know it. Favourite dish was the duck with pancakes but we enjoyed everything .
wonderful food that was reasonably priced but offset by poor acoustics when busy
Great Asian food, delicious wine (Bao & Dumplings are a must), and friendly Staff
