I grew up in Texas and have always been a fan of Mexican food, but Buena Vida is probably the best Mexican food I have eaten. Everything they serve is perfectly prepared. I would rarely say that a $50 meal is worth the price, but in this case it is.
I was very excited to try Buena Vida after hearing good things from a couple friends. Unfortunately, my experience was not the same I had expected from word-of-mouth. The place looks great and the server was very friendly. The food was okay, but a good amount of their plates have pork in them. I do eat pork but three of my friends do not and were left unsatisfied with the options available to them. Was a bit disappointed we weren't told the kitchen or deal was ending at 3 pm (until 10 minutes before), so we didn't get to take advantage of the $35 paid for all-you-can-eat and drink. The mimosa was fine but pulpy (not warned about this) and the margarita was overly sour as too much mix was added. I might try again, but would not recommend to anyone from this experience.
Relatives were in from out of town and the food was outstanding the first time, so they wanted to come back. Everything was superb.
I went with 3 other people. We all went for the Buena Vida experience and had drinks and food in really short order. The food is absolutely fantastic. I don't know if it's ever worth it to order a la carte but even if it is I think I'd always suggest the experience just due to the opportunity to try just anything that sounds good (which in my experience has been almost everything). The drinks are good though fairly limited in how many different things are available. Our service started out fantastically but we had a couple of slips. One of our rounds of orders just never came; though we were told that it may just be due to the kitchen and it'll come eventually. It largely doesn't matter because we could just order the same thing again but things like that should be smoothed out. Our other issue was that our waiter's shift ended about halfway through dinner and we were never assigned anybody else. We did have somebody come check on us and take a couple orders but when the food came it was all half of what was expected which we took as them telling us to leave. However, nobody came again for the rest of our time so we just sat talking until eventually we got somebody to take our bill. I'm not ready to write it off as a dinner option but what is it with the restaurant service around here?
Fresh and delicious!
We had a blast on Mother’s Day. Excellent atmosphere, food, and service! We’ll be back.
Very unorganized but the food was good. The server tried her best. I don't think they put much thought into the operations though. Everyone was frantic. Host was late, and frantic. Server was frantic, food was slow and the menu was poorly planned. the options were unlimited small plates or a la carte, which was the exact same item on the brunch menu down to the size. There was no option for a standard plate limiting you to participate in brunch only.
Tostada's were fire! Shrimp and grits, great! Although we didnt have any, the drinks were unlimited. Great ambiance. Poor preperation tho.
It was mother's day with more children in the space than expected. The noise from their screams was a little much but it was MOTHER'S DAY so it was what it was. We had the extremely affordable brunch with bottomless alcoholic beverages.
Everything was delicious except for the chocolate cupcakes (very dry and tasted stale) and some hard taco options would have been appreciated.
Otherwise the servers are lovely and the managers are on the floor to make sure that things are running smoothly
Fantastic place. Great food and while there were a couple snafus with our order, it all worked out and we left there happy and full.
We had a great Administrative Professionals day lunch & everyone enjoyed the food! Will be back
It was Cinco de Mayo and the place was really busy. Took 10 minutes just to check in for our reservation. Food was very good and the margaritas were great! Service was struggling to keep up with long waits for drink orders. Would definitely go back.
There were a few hiccups since it was their first Cinco de Mayo, but our server and the manager were very supportive and did their best to make amends. I look forward to our next visit on a less chaotic day. If you're a meat eater be sure to get the lamb chops. Delicious, very tender.
Good food at good value and it's close to my home. I think they were a little overstaffed the day we went, but the our server was really nice and the manager/owner stepped up to help when needed. Great way to spend a rainy, nasty Sunday. I'll be back.
The restaurant canceled our reservation and told us we did not have one after a waitress tried to seat us. We were reluctantly sat 15 minutes later. They had one waiter serving over 15 tables alone so service was not apt.
Excellent costumer service. The food came out a little late but overall excellent experience.
Great tapas place, food is great, service a bit slow. I will recommend you to order all you want at once, otherwise you may not get everything.
I wish online it would state clearly this is a tapas place. The portion size is beyond "tapas" small. It is not worth the money.
This was our 2nd time visiting, but we found the food not as good as on the 1st visit. But my main concern was receiving each dish of food without serving utensils. I find this unsanitary, especially when there is a group of individuals using their forks to dip the out or off the serving plates. Had to ask for serving utensils to be added to the table.
The restaurant was beautiful, service was good. I was charged 3 times in total for dining at this place. I am very upset by this. I don’t know if I will recommend this place to other a or return again!
Lovely place. The food and drink were quite good, and the prixe fixe was a great way to sample the menu. we will look forward to going back.
This has become a favorite destination. On this particular night, service was on the slow side, which was a disappointment. There was one order mixup but it was minor. We would have had more to drink with a bit more attention! I love this restaurant for the food, the reasonable portions ( they are not too big) and the quiet ambiance that makes conversation pleasant and possible. Usually, service is amazingly quick, also.
We enjoyed the food and the ambiance at Buena Vida. The drinks were quite good and so was the food, though a little busy in the presentation. There seemed to be a bit of confusion with the service - first tapa came before our drinks and the helper and the server didn't seem to coordinate. We will likely return and try some other dishes another time.
Loved our waiter, Sid. He was very attentive and made sure we had enough dishes to share! Fun place.
This is truly one of the best dining experiences in the DMV. We were there around 5:30 on a Saturday to celebrate a birthday. We did the bottomless drinks and tapas, and enjoyed everything that was brought to our table (and the spectacular servers that brought it!) Cool ambiance, great food, and unbeatable price.
We had heard about Buena Vida many times and were finally able to eat there. It was GREAT. Wide ranging tapas menu and their "all you can eat/all you can drink" option was a AMAZING deal. Looking forward to going back.
We absolutely love this place!! The food, service, ambiance& decor are absolutely phenomenal!!! We will be back again soon, even though we are located 1.5 hours away!! ⚜️ Mrs. Cox
Buena Vida provides a delicious and varied endless brunch and drink option. My husband and I ordered four small plates at a time, and they were brought out one at a time, so our table was never too crowded. We were told that there was a two hour time limit, as it was Easter, but we never felt rushed, and finished in just over one hour.
I had asked our server if a certain item could be served without cilantro, and was told it was already in it. I thought this would be sufficient to notify the server that I don't like cilantro, but the next two items that came out had cilantro sprinkled on top, even though cilantro had not been listed as an ingredient on the menu. After this, I did ask the server if she could make sure that cilantro was kept off of anything else that was brought out. The rest of our food items were hit or miss with cilantro. Such is the fate for those who inherited that cilantro-hater gene!
My endless mimosas were fairly decent, but I must say that they weren't very cold. Also, the cup they use is very small; I could drink the whole thing in about five sips. Good thing it was endless!
First visit. We tried the $35 “experience” of unlimited small plates which was a pretty good deal and a great way to sample the menu. Wait staff was friendly and helpful.
WONDERFUL in every way!!! All your staff were friendly, efficient and made our dinner experience just perfect!!! The drinks were great and the small plates were all tasty and fun to share!!! A memorable evening!! We’ll be back for sure!!! Thank you!!!
Really wanted to love this place. But the food was just ok, and the limitations on the menu choices-everyone in the party had to take advantage of their $49 special or no one could, there was no option for fewer than 4 tacos- were frustrating. Also, it was extremely noisy, not helped by the large loud party they seated us next to. On the positive side, the service was attentive, and they presented me a nice complimentary dessert when I mentioned we were celebrating my birthday.
The food was delicious. The temperature of the restaurant was very hot. This was uncomfortable for us. Lastly, the service was not great. The server explained how the "all you can eat small plates" worked, however, when I told her I wanted to order the plates not have her just bring different ones, she disappeared for a long time. Maybe she was really busy. It just took a long time to order food, and then we didn't hear back from her for a long time when we wanted to order more food. We were able to order more food eventually, but some of it never came! A simple question from the server after delivering food/drinks would improve our experience a lot "Is there something else I can get you?" Also, having the server check in more often.
Amazing food. Try the full choice one fee to be able to try everything
I really want to love this place - it's local and innovative with delicious margaritas and a wonderful ambience, particularly upstairs. BUT the service is so slow! We waited for a long time at the host stand for someone to seat us. And unlike at other tapas places where you can order a first round of drinks and small plates, keep ordering until you're full and still keep things moving, here you need to wait forever to get a drink refill. We ended up going to find our server to pay our check! I'll come back because it's convenient and tasty, but only when I have a lot of time to spend, and never with a large group.
Our experience at Buena Vida was outstanding. The $35 bottomless dinner was a great value and the food was incredible. The overall ambiance of the restaurant was very appealing and the music was catchy. The wait staff was great and made my boyfriend and I's anniversary feel really special. We will most definitely be returning!
The food was creative, tasty, and very appealing. Terrific variety! The service was especially excellent (I think he was actually the manager), with superb recommendations and explanations. He was extremely attentive toward our vegetarian daughter. We also had a waitress who was very nice and good at what she does. We will definitely be back! Our out-of-town guests were really pleased and impressed. Top-notch!!
The food is great. We always do the unlimited small plates because we like a variety of foods. The management is on the floor checking to make sure the guest are pleased and being well cared for.
The brunch full experience menu is a great value.
Good food for a good price. Awesome place for brunch!
