Buca di Beppo - Thousand Oaks Ratings and Reviews
By far, not the same quality (food) as years ago. Both the pizza and cheese bread was lacking in any cheese ... more like eating crackers (the pizza) with a dap of cheese here and there. For the price ($22), can get a better pizza at a local deli restaurant in town. Will not be returning.
Salad was drenched in dressing and extremely salty.
Spicy chicken rigatoni was bland and pricey for what it was.
Eggplant parmigiana was decent, but not the freshest.
Chocolate cake was probably the best part of the meal.
Service was fine, nothing too spectacular.
Our waiter Joe, was great. The food was delicious, the seating was perfect (I'm hard of hearing and we had a booth so I could hear our conversation better) our friends paid for corkage and enjoyed two bottles of wine. The location is lovely and it was a win. We'll be back many, many times.
This was my first time eating at this restaurant. I like the family style, but actually prefer an individual serving or entree. The lasagne was good, but I've tasted better. The shrimp flirentine, though, was great. The ambiance was fair, but I heard no Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin, as noted on the internet.
Mother's Day, 13 people at 11:45. We were seated at long narrow table, which was hard for family style setting. Never did get to sample food at the other end of the table. Service was very good and food was tasty. Careful here as its very easy to order too much food as we did. When they say a serving feeds 5 or 6 believe it!
In my view Buca is becoming less and less interesting. Menus are stale & repetitive, ambiance seldom changes, tables & booths are too tight, serves way too much food. Have asked for a senior menu often to no avail. Last waiter would not permit me to order a child's portion. They don't even offer Angel Hair pasta.
For a Saturday night it was not super packed. We had a reservation and we were seated immediately. Our waiter was quick to greet us and take our drink order. At no time did I feel rushed. The staff was attentive but not hovering which I appreciate. This is one of our go to places the dinner itself is good but the leftovers the next day oh mama Mia.
Overall, Buca is a good bet for a casual and good Italian food with an upbeat atmosphere. The cost of dining at Buca does not match the expectation of an inexpensive casual restaurant. Dinner for two with my son and with only one glass of house wine cost me $100, including tip, which in my opinion is over priced!
Originally, I had made a reservations for Maggianos, but when I saw Buca de Beppo was close to the theatre I thought to myself... well, it has a fun ambience with decent food. Every place is going to be busy for New Year's Eve dinner anyways, so I changed my reservation to Buca. I arrived on time and let the gal know I had a reservation. She didn't seem to find it, but said she would find a seat for us anyways. At first, the hostess wanted to sit us by an outer doorway and I objected. Then we were sat in the bar even though which was ... a bar ... a lacked a lot of the charm that a family restaurant room has. I don't normally get fussy, but I asked if we could move to a real dining area since we had reservations. Finally, we were seated in a regular dining room and noted as we passed through the parlors and nooks that most had plenty of open tables, so it was unclear why we were seated in the previous places. We were were not shoddily dressed so I can only guess why we had to go through that. After that the evening was okay and the food was okay. However, I found myself wishing I had kept my original reservations at Maggianos.
We went for Christmas dinner so it was busy, but that was fine. The service was passable, though the server was a bit rude and screwed up our order. I understand that people make mistakes, but when we pointed out that she had ordered us the wrong food, her response was to blame us and get upset with us and then tell us it would be an hour to get the right food. We declined as we had already waited about 45 minutes for our food and asked her to remove the order for the dish she screwed up. She was also disorganized with the drinks, giving my son the refill of a guy from another table and the guy from the other table, my son's cup of diet cola. In the end, for the money it cost, the dinner was unsatisfactory and a disappointment and we will likely eat somewhere else next Christmas.
It may have been an isolated case. We celebrated our sons 19th birthday on a nearly empty restaurant on Thursday at 7 PM. The main course took extreme long to be delivered to our table. My water glass got refilled once and my wife's never. We did not felt attended. The restroom was missing toilet paper. I often go to this restaurant chain and I am usual very happy but not this time at this location.
