Buca di Beppo - San Jose - Oakridge Ratings and Reviews
Family Birthday gathering - had a lovely time! Waiter was pleasant & friendly but seemed flustered at times. Was fine at first, but was slow in responding to requests for more water, food boxes, & check as the restaurant became more busy. Food was delicious & plentiful. Really good red sangria too!
Service was he worst we have ever had. The very sweet assistant manager did her best to make up fo the poor service. Unfortunately, waiting for our reservation for 20 minutes to be seated, waiting additional 40 minutes to receive our drinks, and having to ask repeatedly for napkins, water/drinks, bread, silverware, plates, etc.... it did not quite make up for the delicious food. The servers were all kind and helpful, but it was clear that we did not have an assigned server to our table if 7. I don’t think we will ever be back. Poorly managed restaurant.
Food was cold when it came out. Sent it back 30 minutes later we speak to the manager no apologies and finally we get the pasta dish back. Now the other side dishes are cold on the table. Those are not replaced. Then the bill gets screwed up and our credit card is charged twice. No discount or apology for any of the problems we had. No silverware at our table. When we booked this we said it was for a birthday and birthday was never acknowledged. Beyond disappointed. A 2 1/2 hour horrible meal.
We had a great time , great dinner , the only problem we've had the last 2 Visits at this restaurant is we order a bottle of wine and we've gotten pitchers instead, we are very uncomfortable with that because we pay full price for a particular bottle and we have no idea if what we pay for is the bottle we ordered . We have questioned them and they always say the wine we ordered comes in a barrel but we've tested them and ordered different bottles , and still they bring pitchers. Otherwise our dinner and service was great!
Food was what I generally expect from BdB, and consistent with other locations. Our server was friendly and quick, but the star of our evening was a server named Ta. I had a few questions about the wine list, as the wine I planned to order was not available that eve. Our server said she didn't know wine very well, so I went to the bartender hoping he could provide some recommendations. He did not know the wines either, but Ta heard my question and took the time to describe a few wines to me, and letting me taste a couple so I could decide. He even upsold me to a mini-carafe. I hope management values him because he was great!
For some reason, at this Buca, we always have a problem with exceptionally noisy children. This time, the three children were screaming, the mother was screaming back at the children! Why do people take children from age three months to four out for dinner? We had our food boxed and left quickly.
Customer service was terrible. Hostess was very rude and gave mean stares to my party and our waitress would dissapear, I made my reservations to get seated in a comfortable area and my party was sat all stuffed into a corner when the restaurant was not even busy at the time.
Got our food 40 minutes after ordering, never got silverware. They told us they ran out and they would look but it took 4 different servers and finally the manager got us silverware. We waited 20 minutes for boxes and we were the ones that got our own boxes when we realized the storage was next to our table. We noticed our server was handling tables on the other side of the restaurant while there were maybe three or four servers talking in the corner not being helpful when we asked for assistance. Food was delicious and hot. And atmosphere was fun. Service needs work.
The service was pretty good. They were out of several desserts and wines though. The food is just ok. Lasagna and chicken marsala both had a sweet taste that I didn't like. I would rather go to Maggiano's or The Old Spaghetti Factory. Only came here because they had reservations for Mothers Day. You also can't order individual meals because everything is family style. It's really tough when trying to split up bills. If your desperate for Italian then it's ok.
Very disappointed with the service and lack of customer focus
After sit down, we waited 15-20mins without the waitress showing up. So went to front and requested service. Which the front apologized and out came a waitress. Took our order.
No setup on the table with drinks showing up after another 15 and no silver ware. Food shows up in 10-15mins. We have now been there like 1hr! Still no silver ware... so go ask again...
Lo behold the appetizers don't show up but the main course does... tell the waitress about it and declined the appetizers as we are already down with the main course and highly dissatisfied with how the neglected the service was, even our kids said they will never go back!
Finally to top it all we wait for the check for another 15mins after we asked for it and the check shows the appetizers !
Wowww how messed up can the service be
We ask for the appetizers to be taken off as we never ate them..10mins later the server shows up with the bill.. we pay and leave saying to ourselves last time we are coming here
Something is wrong here and never experienced such poor service and neglect, we don't usually write reviews but this was very bad
Our server was obviously brand new. She disappeared for tens of minutes at a time. She had no idea about menu items (can the salad be made without onions? Are there kid size desserts?) She also brought a "Cadillac margarita, Patron silver, on the rocks, salt" back to our table that was actually their Italian margarita with GOLD tequila, Disarrono and Cointreau. Basically the opposite of a Cadillac margarita.
We were seated directly under an air vent and it was freezing the entire time
Could not get out of there fast enough.
Food was good, service, ambience was awful.
Valentine's Day was very busy. We ordered an appetizer, kids' pizzas, salad, and shrimp florentine. The waiters seemed a bit overwhelmed, we had to wait quite a bit for our main dish. The food was good, however, not much remained when all was through. This is our 4th or 5th visit here, the food has always tasted great. I'm sure the holiday is difficult for many restaurants.
My family and I had dinner there last night. Food was terrible. Fettuccine alfredo was dry and was served without the alfredo sauce. The Chicken Marsala was dry not enough sauce. Service was appalling, we had reservations at 7:30 and the food arrived an hour after our order. Granted they did compensate us with our bill, but this not acceptable. Our waitress keeps us they ran out of cups for water, silverware for the table and the kitchen is behind. Badly ran restaurant at this time.
This restaurant is so poorly managed. Our waitress was sat three large parties, 15 people each and wasn't given much help. She actually walked out in the middle of her shift!
We ended up waiting an hour and a half for soda. I went up to the manager and spoke to her about the lack of service, but after she dropped off some drinks and spilled wine all over the table, we still had to track down a new waiter. After waiting two hours for our food, my family finally took it upon themselves to sing happy birthday to me, since the waiters weren't around to do it. =/ It was comical how bad this restaurant was.
Our waitress was nice. However it was her second day and she barely knew anything and barely fulfilled our requests. I requested a short stack of napkins (I have two little kids). I had to ask 3 times. My husband ordered a carafe of Prosecco for himself. She brought Pelegrino water instead and when she finally did bring the wine, she unnecessarily brought two glasses (we were a party of 6 with two kids) and left the whole bottle. When they brought desert they didn't bring plates. When someone finally brought plates, they didn't bring utensils. We spent a LOT of time waiting and waiting to be served and looked after. BTW we were there for my birthday. The food was good. Pasta dishes are HUGE. The place is loud cause it's one large party after another. Our waitress really needed to be shadowed.
I will return but not for a long while and hopefully service will be better.
Horrible service, managers don't have control of the staff. Staff is goofing off and on their phones most of the time. Food delivered without cold and dry (Marsala chicken and lemon chicken) any plates to eat on and then took 5 minutes to get plates. Ordered calamari and had to ask 3 times if it was coming. Best part was the chopped salad that was delivered quickly and chilled. Cold seems to be what they do best there. Worst bucca ever. Other locations in San Jose are a better bet.
Sadly we have been diners for Years. Dishes were dirty sent back 2 x asking for clean dishes. The restrooms were so dirty no paper towels or toilet paper and smelled so much like portable potties! I mentioned to manager who just blew me off. I respect hard working employees in Resturant business but management needs to be on top ! Don't use holiday as an excuse. Even our waiter was so embarrassed of the workplace and kept apologizing. I told him we appreciate all their hard work but they are not the ones who can make the changes the higher up needs to fix! Won't ever go back , but left a good tip to our hard working waiter. OSHA would not be happy today dining there!
VERY DISAPPOINTING. I know it was a busy night, but it was not out of control busy. Our salad, garlic bread and our meal came all within 2-3 minutes of each other. The antipasti salad was the absolute worst one I have ever had. It was not fresh, it was a bit watery, and the pepperoni, salami and other meats and extras where almost non existent. Also they chop it all up into little pieces, and I am not quite sure why other than to hide the small amount they give you. The garlic Bread was toasted french bread with butter and garlic almost non existent too. It was like eating a flavorless crouton, and one bite was enough. The main course (chicken manicotti) got cold waiting while we were sampling the other dishes served. It had decent flavor but was extremely dry and luke warm. We asked for extra sauce which ended up arriving after we were finished with the meal. The waiter was a nice guy and handled everything well and had a sense of humor about it which was good. I tipped him 20%. THat was the onlyhighlight of the meal, We did have the bread and salad removed from the order but even still it was not worth what we paid.
