Buca di Beppo - Pasadena Ratings and Reviews
I'm no stranger to Buca di Beppo. I know it's a place for parties and large groups. But we had requested a table in a quieter area of the restaurant, and the noise was still deafening. The waitress apologized (I think - my lip-reading isn't what it used to be), but I promised myself never to go on a Saturday night again. I think I'll try them for lunch, when they are much, much quieter.
It was so meant to be...simply went online after seeing I had a birthday email from Buca & after about 4 clicks on my Note 2...voila! I was in with a reservation # with a chance to request the Chef's Table. Arrived about 5 minutes late for our Friday night reservation so I was not counting on actually getting the table. We missed it by 3 minutes, but by some miracle of the lasagna gods, the door opened to the Kitchen for us. From there, it was amazing with great food, great attention, great folks who worked there & those walking by admiring our cool front row seat!
Everything was wonderful...& to top it off, the Birthday $20 discount they emailed me, was accepted without hesitation simply by showing the coupon on my phone. The Havocers
We had a large group that came to dinner and we were immediately seated, with reservations of course. The food was great and the ambience was energetic and exciting. My 1 year old son enjoys it every time we come here. We love that its kid friendly so everyone can come to dinner! Our dad was excited to be here too. We'll be back for another special occasion with the whole extended family.
We got there a little bit before our reservation and we still waited 30 mins for a table. It was my families first time there and they didn't give them the kitchen tour. They didn't even ask. Afterwards the waiter didn't come for a good 15 minute. Once we ordered our drinks and food it took about 20 to get our drinks. The service wasn't at all good and my father didn't enjoy Father's Day. &&he didn't even like part of the food.(flavorless)
Made a reservation for my husband's birthday - very easy to do on line! wait staff was very helpful, and it's fun to have the tour of the kitchen, too!
The food is great, and since it's family style, portions are large - you can take home leftovers! My main complaint, though, was that the entrees came while we were still enjoying our salad and appetizers. As this is a VERY busy restaurant on the weekends, I"m sure they want to get you in and then out. Although, our waiter did have the sense to ask about desert when WE asked about takeout boxes. My advice for them is to SLOW down....
The food at Buca di Beppo is tasty and priced pretty well. It had been a while since our family had been there, so decided to go there on a Saturday evening. Had 6:30 reservations and were seated around 6:45, not too bad a wait. The wait staff seemed to be stretched pretty thin, particularly since there were many large groups celebrating birthdays, graduations, Fathers' Day, etc. Our food was slow to come out, but was good. The noise level, though, is beyond what I'd recalled. We won't be back any time soon, other than maybe for take-out. It was difficult to carry on conversation without shouting. Not a very enjoyable dining experience.
I have always found Buco a great experience. My guests are always impressed with the quality of the food and the great staff. I can bring family, kids and business clients and know everyone will have a great time. The Fruto di Mare is a delight. Close your eyes and you are in Bari on the Aegean.
It was a great event to hold a luncheon on behalf of my little sister. It was affordable for 10 people and we were seated fast. The restaurant was family style, so we all got to share each others plates. Food itself was average, but I'm an Italian who's picky with other italian food.
WE had a wonderful time at Buca. We were seated right away (as soon as we all had arrived). The staff was very attentive and the food was soooo delish! We had a party of 7 and wanted to make sure we had enough for everyone...but over ordered. Your Large portion feeds 4 - if that is the only item you order - that's for sure. The portion size of the Large was a nice surprise. Now we know better, and can order less next time. (BUT the plus side of over ordering was that we got to try different items)
We knew to save room for dessert and ordered a slice of cake to share. I'm glad we did. It was gorgeous and delicious...just the right amount of chocolate and sweetness to end the evening. Thank you!
I have not been to Bucas in about a year and I could not believe how downhill the food has gotten. I ordered a pizza and it was horrible. your pizzas used to be could and crunchy crust and tasty toppings. my pizza had soggy crust and the toppings tasted like cheap store bough stuff. the service was amazing, friendly and fun as always. that has stayed wonderful. I don't think I will go again with that quality of food.
Well, everything was just alright, no the best. Had a way better experience on our previous visits. Food took a while and came out overly soggy but it was okay. Waiter had a slight attitude and wasn't very nice, but I guess he was tired. Don't think we will be going back anytime soon, maybe next year... Now to look for another Italian restaurant.
This was my pick this year for Mother's Day. It's close to where I live and Buca has become a family tradition. It reminds me of Sunday dinners in Alhambra when the ravioli was homemade and the grapes hung down heavy over the patio. The decor is close to my heart too. Maybe I'm too sentimental to write a review! It's all so good. The staff makes us feel important. But the cannoli could be a better... whoever made them doesn't know a good North Beach SF cannoli . I'm tempted to invite myself into the kitchen and start cooking! This is a fun place to take a toddler. My little grandaughter loved it.
Made a reservation for 4 for Mother's Day and the restaurant was packed! I didn't know that they added an additional 20 minute wait to every reservation, which made our first impression of the restaurant pretty bad. Yet seated two other parties that arrived later than we did before they seated us. Service was a little bit slow once we were seated, but as the restaurant was wry busy that was to e expected. The food was good! I would not recommend the veal - very chewy - and Large sizes are HUGE but worth the price. The Small sized plates were so small, we had to buy 3 smalls for the 4 of us.
We went on Mother's Day and had to wait 25 minutes with a reservation...that's actually understandable. However, the service was lacking because there were so many people but they should have been expecting such crowds on Mother's Day. The place is very loud so if you are looking for some sort of ambiance this is not the place. We were actually yelling at each other an dthe server was difficult to hear and understand. But you haav e to be prepared for thsi place an dI would say a large crowd of people in a relaxed atmosphere this place is for you.
My Japanese clients were truly happy& amazed about the size of meal and energetic atmosphere. Wine bottles on the ceiling and many pictures on a wall were unique and cute. Some of my clients were touched because not only waitresses abut also cooks smiled at us and let to take picture of them.
Since your menus do not have much pictures, I always need to check menu on line before hand. But if you could put some pictures on the menu, it would be helpful for people who cannot understand English. Also, sandine brawny was too sweet for us even though it meant to be. Other desserts were pretty amazing and we all liked.
above all, I always appreciate your kindness and cheering. Thank you.
Food as always was good.
We dined rather late for lunch and the restaurant was not busy. However that made no difference regarding the poor quality of service.
Wait staff rarely present and I had to go looking for that person when we needed our check.
Wait staff not only inattentive but not helpful in discussing the menu.
It was not too good this time. We visited this restaurant once before and had a great experience. This time was not that good. Our food was cold, one of our entrees was not ordered, and it was rushed to our table when it was finally ordered. The place was not busy, so there was no excuse; just an inattentive waitress. Our waitress kept apologizing, but it did not seem sincere. I would think twice about visiting this restaurant again.
