Energetic and fun to celebrate an occasion. Service was excellent and the Server was very friendly and accommodating.
Our Host found us a table even thought we were an hour early. Our server Freddie made us feel special and the food was great.
The food is excellent, and very good value, as we often get coupons. Its great for groups and special occasions
This is the first time we have been to the Palo Alto location. We have been to the one in Anaheim twice. Both are similar in a lot of respects. When you first walk in, you walk by the kitchen before you even get to anyone. In Anaheim, you walk through the kitchen when they seat you. Strange at first, but kind of cool. Lots of separate rooms with tables, and interesting things on the walls, both of which we like. .
The food is very, very good. It is family style, which for the most part, I like. If one person wants a little more, they're not just stuck with what was put on their plate, but it can be a problem, if everyone has very dissimilar tastes......PH
Buca de Beppo has really good salads and pasta dishes. Don't be misled by portion sizes; they are "ginormous". Even though the menu says a small dish serves 2-3, the plates were big enough to serve 4 adults with leftovers. i heartily recommend the apple gorganzola salad; YUM! The manicotti and spaghetti/meatball dishes were flavorful and served piping hot. The meatballs were very tender, impressive given each one was bigger than my fist. I will go back to Buca di Beppo. The only 'negative' might be the noise level. We had an early seating, so we missed most of the dinner crowd. By the time we left, the noise level was increasing. If you enjoy a lively boistrous mealtime, though, it's a great place for a family dinner.
This place is so cozy, feels like you're having dinner at a family members house. The food is incredible and there's plenty to go around. Definitely recommend the Penne San Remo!
I gave Buca 4 stars because it meet my expectations for a family and group friendly restaurant. The menus has enough choices to satisfy a variety of needs. Going on this alone I would have given the place a three. However the staff was very nice and helpful. Our waiter had an opinion on the best items and really knew the menus. Nothing worse than waitstaff who says"I haven't really eaten here". Thanks to our waiter for being knowledgable and friendly.
The food was excellent like always. The only thing that was not very enjoyable was the service we got that day. While to food was brought on in a really quick manner, other things we not good at all. One of our entrees was forgotten . We had to wait a long time for refills, asked for separate dessert and dinner check didn't get it, gave them a coupon didn't mention in did not work until we reviewed the bill, then trying telling a story that did not seem to be true, eventually accepted coupon when asked to speak to a manager, and finally forgot one of our desserts. If it wasn't for the great food we would not come back, however because of the food we will be back. If we end up with the same waitress however, we will ask for another one
They have a great variety of good Italian dishes. We love the pastas the most.
We had a great antipasto salad that was really fresh and tasty. The penne san remo was good, but what would have made it great was more artichoke hearts and some greens with the pasta. We felt there was definitely not enough artichoke hearts and too much pasta without anything else to add some more flavor.
The food was a little slow. However, the manage really pays attention to that and gave us free dessert in the end. I enjoy the decoration in the restaurant.
We chose Buca for the food, but the overall experience was amazing! Had a quaint, special bday celebration for my husband.
Fun place. Great food at reasonable prices.
Great food and plenty of it. My adult children have their favorites from many years ago; there are also many new dishes on the menu. Our waiter, DuWann, was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, efficient and checked on us often. He celebrated right along with us.
The Palo Alto Buca is an interesting set-up...entering in through the kitchen service isle and have that funky older neighborhood joint feel with empty wine bottle ceiling motif........Service is generally efficient, with servers having good command of the menu. Recommendations are made at appropriate times........ Food is a bit corporate formula with most items in the favlorful and well portioned theme. As an overall comment, food taste profile all pretty well centered in the same segment. The better items interestingly are the supremo combo pizza, prociutto wrapped chicken, baked ziti and cesar salad. It is a good spot coming to every so often for some fares. Have fun.......
The restaurant was very good, but when I arrived, they did not have my reservation. I checked the confirmation email they sent me and I was at the right place at the right time, but opentable had messed up my reservation. So thanks opentable, for making me wait 45 minutes to get a table after I made a reservation.
excellent food, excellent hosts and great friends and family, made for a wonderful time
we were seated at a tiny table in a stinky corner by the supplies, It smelled horrible and asked to be moved. we were moved to a table downstairs, once again next to a service area. There are WAY too many tables and there doesn't appear to be any handicap accommodations. I am surprised they have not been busted by the fire dept. for over-crowding,
The service was excellent once we were re-seated, and we received our food amazingly quick considering how busy they were. the food was good, pasta was over cooked.
This is not a neighborhood restaurant for us. We travel 30 miles to dine there. We are never disappointed with the food or the service.
Buca di Beppo is a great place to dine weather you want to get romantic with your honey or hang with the family. the portions are huge so be careful when ordering. The cooks are very helpful and honest when trying to feel out what exactly to order. The food gets 5 Stars!!! This is truly traditional tasty Italian food at its best. I suggest that you call for reservations any evening after 5pm.
* 5 - Stars *
I go there small group most of the time, but this place is great for big group. Entry potions are huge. Nice for BD party, too.
I like the good quality food at Buca Restaurant in Palo Alto, California.
We like it - reminds me of the Italian family dinners we had when I was a child. Love the old photos on the walls. Food is good and plentiful - always have leftovers for the next day.
Upon arriving here, you feel like you must have come in the wrong door. The entrance goes straight into the kitchen through what appears to be the delivery area and right past the employee's time clock. Then you arrive in a dark foyer where the hostess stand in two steps up. We were promptly greeted without a smile or any kind of warmth and led to our table. The place was almost empty and we were led past a dining area that was totally empty and close to the kitchen and seated in another room and immediately next to a large noisy party. The service was sporadic and emotionless, again no smile, no warmth. The food is good but not remarkable and is expensive, only being a good value if you have a coupon or want a week of leftovers.
We have dined at Buca often with the family and always have had a good experience both with the food and service. I like being able to order the small sized portions, this way everyone can share and we can order more of a variety. The atmosphere is definitely festive, can be very loud depending on what room your are in, good if you have kids. As for the food, we always order the ravioli and peperoni pizza and then try something new. We have never been disappointed.
Everything at Buca di Beppo is large and loaded with butter. Of course it tastes good, but this is a not what they mean by "healthy Mediterranean diet". I shudder to think what the calorie content of the meals is. We ordered 2 small dishes on Friday, and ate leftovers all weekend long. Service was good, and the noise level makes it good for loud kids. They seem to have toned down the risque aspect of the decor since I was last there years ago, making it family friendly. Maybe I'm confusing it with Ciao Bella in the Santa Cruz mountains ?
I always enjoy the good quality food at Buca Restaurant in Palo Alto, California.
It's somewhat crowded. Also, although the food is good, main courses are served without sides. For example, chicken parmisan comes with the chicken parmisan alone without potatoes or vegetables.
The food and service are very dependable at Buca di Beppo, and this is a good choice for a quick and reasonably priced lunch when in downtown Palo Alto. My party enjoyed the Caesar and Apple Gorgonzola salads as well as the penne and meatball and baked rigatoni pasta plates.
The servings are large and intended to be shared by many diners so this allows everyone to try many different items.
While not a fancy restaurant by any means, the cheerful greeting of hostess Katrina will make one feel welcome and start a very satisfying lunch off nicely!
Good food at the Palo Alto, California Restaurant.
Went here for a casual dinner with my wife and was quite impressed with the huge size of everything I ordered. Couldn't get to finish even the half of the two pastas so I chose to box up the remaining food. Would recommend this place for a big group - in fact an average dining group there was at least five people! Overall food was quite good, and I especially loved linguine frutti di mare.
Tables way too close together. Seated us at a table( there were four of us) that could only accommodate two. This was not a busy
Good food, and a lot of it, served family style - we usually take leftovers home even when we try to only order a couple things. Salads frequently have too much dressing, but pastas make up for it. Spotty service, can be loud, but if you're not in a hurry and want to hang out over good food, this is a good place for it.
Restaurant was nearly empty, yet set us waaay in the back. The food was bland and after asking twice for straws to drink I was ready yo leave.
Kid-friendly --it's noisy enough that the kid's noise does not matter.
Food is good and overall it's a fun place.
We went there after my daughter's dance recital and had a great time. We had a reservation and were seated right away, which I really appreciated with kids on a Saturday night. The kids were keyed up and the noisy atmosphere was perfect. I felt like I could relax and enjoy myself without worrying a lot about trying to keep the kids on whisper-quiet best behavior. My kids generally have fantastic restaurant behavior, but it was nice that there were several tables around us with people laughing and talking and toasting and generally having a good time.
Not "OpenTable" friendly. Manager even told me that he is not familiar with OpenTable or how it works. Suggestion: Get a clue. This is a business partner. You are the manager. Find out.
Very frustrating experience with a simple reservation. Hostess staff are unaware as well. Isn't this the first impression of the establishment in the hostess...........???
I have not been to this restaurant in 4-5 years. I know why.
Buca di Beppo is a good place for a casual lunch as the food is predictably good and the service is friendly. The entrance to the restaurant makes one feel as if they are entering the "employee entrance," but once one walks through the kitchen the soup, salad, and pasta will be tasty and enjoyable.
The Buca di Beppo staff in Palo Alto is friendly and helpful, particularly hostess Katrina and this is a good place for a family lunch or dinner when one simply wants good comfort food.
The food we ordered especially the prosciutto stuffed chicken was the best of everything on our table , chopped antipasto salad, large bowl of spaghetti with meatballs and calamari as an appetizer.
All the food tasted great... needed to take so much leftovers back home. Remember to bring your appetite with you when dining at Buccas. The food is so satisfying you may not have room for dessert. Great restaurant for groups of 6 or more...
We were exposed to the worst service imaginable. Have been here before and enjoyed every minute. but we got a host "Dejon'" who was not present couldn't find him to get drinks our food was served by different servers, items we requested were not brought out. The servers had to go and ask someone else cause he was no where to be found. I doubt if I will be back for a long while. It was suppose to be a celebration marking various landmarks for our group. It was not pleasant we ended up taking most of the food home because we could not get enough silverware napkins or drinks. We ended up going somewhere else for coffee and dessert. Highly disappointing experience.
