This was my first visit to the Buca in Louisville, KY. I have frequent the Columbus, OH location near the Blue Jackets Stadium, but I must say that every location has surpassed my expectations. I think I enjoy the food the most at the Buca, but the service runs a very close second. My friend and I held reservations for a Friday night, and as it turned out, we finished our prior engagement ahead of schedule. We made it to the Buca an hour early and asked for our reserved seats ahead of time. Although we had to wait for few minutes, the staff accommodated and delivered us a great table. All of this occurred mind you while parties the size of 35 people, 16 people, and 8 people, constantly entered the establishment . The Buca staff was appropriately trained and never hesitated when the location became packed. The staff is super helpful with finding the right choice for you on the menu. We ordered the small sampler and split the leftovers. Our waitress did not give us a guilt trip when we refused to order desert, but it was certainly our lost. It was a family friendly environment with huge tables and stumbling waitresses. We recommend you give yourself plenty of time to enjoy your visit, and remember to look for coupons that are posted for special discounts.
I️ made the reservation to celebrate a birthday and stated that in my reservation and reminded the waitress, however the request was ignored. They were out of lasagna at 6:30 which I found to be odd especially since it’s one of their signature dishes. Our food was cold and for the price paid I️t definitely was not worth I️t. By the end of our meal my husband, whose birthday we were celebrating, looked at me and said he couldn’t believe he was saying I️t, but he had no desire to return. We used to enjoy this restaurant, and I’m not sure if this was just a one time bad experience or if the restaurant has just declined.
I've been to other location many times. Service here was terrible. Requested to change table (while a bunch of tables were available ours was right in the middle of the room), the staff said check the "availability (even WIDE open)" and never came back. Our waiter tried to sell a bottle of wine more than 5 times even we said we'd like a glass of wife cuz we'd switch to other kind of drinks. Kept suggesting meat dishes even I kept saying my friend was vegetarian. It was just so annoying and uncomfortable.
We were dining as a family of 4, running a little late for our reservation and the hostess when we called to notify them was able to make corrections and accommodate us. We were promptly seated. Our server was attentive without being overly so. We were disappointed though with the Veal marsala we ordered. The sauce was too sweet for marsala and somewhat thick and gummy. The veal, while thin, was not as tender as I expected. We had also ordered ravioli with meat sauce - glad we did as my husband and son needed to eat some of our dish to satisfy themselves - and the ravioli were large, cheesy and the sauce was good and spicy.
We were in at 11 am on a Sunday. The food was great, service was great. The restaurant wasn't too busy at that time. We ordered chicken sultembocca, carbonara, caprese salad and 4 cheese platter. We were celebrating a birthday and thru sang their funny song and p placed a pointing hand that said celebrating my birthday next to the birthday boy. It was a great time!
Our server was doing his best but we had to wait for 30 minutes even though we had a reservation. Two of us got our entrees in a decent amount of time but the third entree did not get served until the other two had finished theirs. The food was fine but definitely not worth the wait!
Third or 4th time I have had a meal here. Usually dinner, but this time lunch. It was the first Buca we went to about 7 years ago. Hasn't changed. Predictable, good and cost-effective. Since we came here for lunch, the parking lot was not crowded at all. But beware a weekend night, or maybe any dinnertime.
Wishing for a re-do. The restaurant was apparently understaffed. Despite our 7:30 reservations, we were seated after 8. The hostess indicated that they were 'waiting for silverware' as the holdup. ??? Once seated, we observed multiple empty tables ~ supporting the impression of the lack of staffing. As we were a party of 10, multiple deliveries of food were anticipated ~ however, the over 10 minute lag between delivery of entrees was extreme. Particularly off-putting was the fact that the women's restroom was out of order - with a handwritten sign on the men's room that it was now a "family restroom". Late seating, poor service, and lack of facilities. I cannot imagine that this is the standard that Buca holds for it's chain. Poor form.
Open Table had set me up a reservation that Bucca did not have available. The management team there found me a table after a very short wait. Thank you for doing that. Open table needs to do a better job confirming that tables are available when they reserve one.
Normally Buca di Beppo is our go to place for special occasions. As usual I requested we go there for Mothers Day. From the moment we walked in, it was total chaos. We could hear the kitchen staff arguing from the waiting area. Sure glad we weren't the family sitting at the "kitchen" table to witness that while eating. After being seated, it took our server 15 minutes to acknowledge us. After ordering our appetizer took 15 minutes to arrive. Then it took 55 minutes for our dinner to arrive cold and horrible. We were there for over 2 hours from the time of sitting down. AND we had a reservation. Needless to say it was a horrible experience. Happy Mother's Day to me!!!.....NOT!!!
We've been patrons for a few years usually have good food and service. Always a little pricey, therefore we go on special occasions. We've never been served raw chicken before. We had the stuffed chicken prosciutto. From the first bite you could tell it wasnt the right texture. My sons told us and we immediately put our forks down and looked and it was obvious. Called our waiter over and he said no its just pink because of the ham without looking and we told him to look and he reassured us it wasnt the case again without looking. Then he took one plate to the kitchen coming back and still saying the same! I said take this plate to the manager and he was gone for a while. Then returned saying they'd make another. We were almost finished by this time with our pasta. Never once did our server say anything other than they'd make another. Manager came over and said he took it off our bill snd we told him to box it to go. We were upset but let it go. What ever happened to the customer being right? He did tell us this happens all the time! I can assure you IT WAS RAW! They brought our chicken to go and later my son opened the chicken to finish eating their lunch and guess what? IT WAS RAW! My advice to bucca is to take it off the menu before getting someone or many very sick! I cook and know theres ways around the recipe to assure that it doesnt happen. Obviously our waiter and management says it happens ALL the time! Fix the problem , get lighting so they can see the differences in raw chicken and ham or take it off the menu, and don't belittle the customer in general. Btw he still received a tip even though he handled this inappropriately.
Even on Mothers Day weekend compounded by being a poplar Prom night location the Staff nailed it. It was like watching a professional orchestra: One Hostess was greeting and welcoming everyone, the second hostess was taking everyone on a tour of the kitchen on her way to seating them. The Cook Staff was efficiently working while everyone was walking by. The waiters and waitresses were very pleasant and informative on the Drinks and Menu. The Food was excellent and delivered hot in a timely manner. They never made you feel rushed but as soon as the table was empty the Bus staff jumped in and had the table ready in lightning speed and the next group was being seated. This scenario was repeated all night long and even as busy as they were no One showed signs of fatigue or exhaustions. My hat is off to the entire Staff. JOB WELL DONE
Even with a reservation we waited an additional 30 mins before we were seated. They were extremely busy and under staffed. Sat us in the "party room" with at least 4 even larger parties and the noise levels were so bad you had to yell across the table at one another. Apps & salad came after the entree course. One entree showed up at the end of our meal. They did comp the salad and the late entree but still wasn't the best experience. We will take our party of 8 elsewhere next time. I had hoped Bucca would have the large party experience down pat but apparently not.
My husband I really enjoyed our visit, but the host stand and the whole experience there could be improved. When our party of two entered, we were told (rather dismissively) at the host stand we would have to wait (which was fine). Then two parties (one of 24 and one of 26) were seated ahead of us. That was still okay with us. After about ten minutes we were taken to our table which was basically directly on top of another table. We had to scoot our table (with no help from the host) into basically a high traffic area in order to sit down. We mentioned to the host that maybe another table would be better and she stared at us with a 'deer in the headlights' expression with no solution given. Our server was fantastic and as usual, the food was excellent. The host stand needs some further training.
