Buca di Beppo - Lombard Ratings and Reviews
Not up to par with other neighborhood Italian restaurant. The attempt at ambiance results in a look of clutter. Very strong odor (not smell, odor) in the lobby - something like old parmesan cheese. All in our party noticed it. Walking thru the kitchen to get to our table was a real turn off, especially since workers were eating at the table in the kitchen we had to pass. Food was just ok - rather have smaller portions and better food. Lemon chicken was bland - little lemon flavor. Chicken parmagiana was dry on the edges. Would not go back - just not our type of restaurant.
This restaurant has changed some from when I first went there, alot of menu changes. The service was very good. The only bad note was when I got my glass of wine it had lipstick on it before I took a drink. When my second glass was served to me the waiter must have had something on his finger because it was then on the glass. They need to watch that.
I used Open Table to make a reservation and had no problems when I arrived, my table was ready. However, there were other people in my party who arrived after I did (by less than 5 minutes) and they were told by the Hostess that she had no idea where she sat me and the rest of my party would have to search the restaurant for me. Really, you sat me and my two daughters less than five minutes ago at a table for 5 and you could not tell the others where to find us. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Our server was very friendly and accomodating, thank goodness or the entire experience would have been a flop.
I was disappointed in all 3 items that were ordered for our group. Garlic bread was average...how can an Italian restaurant make such mediocre garlic bread and charge 12.95 for it? Don't order mixed greens unless you want all romaine and one piece of radicchio and one olive, nothing more! The lasagne was okay but I had wanted vegetarian lasagne and they did not serve it. The servings are either small 1-2 servings or large 3-4..but I say positively 2 for the small so actually for me there are no dishes that serve one. You have to spend more money than you need and take some home leftovers. Cost was over $100 for 4..one glass of Merlot, 2 beers, 2 Small Entrees, bread and salad.
I would only recommend Buca for large groups of 5 or more. We were a bit disappointed with the pricing of items. For 6 mushrooms we paid $12.99 and for a small chicken parmigiania (2 pieces) we paid $19.99, this does not include any sides! Anywhere else this would've been a whole mean with 2 sides.
Glad we made a reservation because this place was crowded. We were seated in a room with at least 2 screaming kids, so it was really loud, but as soon as they left, things quieted down considerable. Food was OK. Was not the best or the worst I've ever had. Service was average. There were also 3 birthdays around us and this is a place where the servers sing. Ugh. Will I go back? Maybe once a year, there are better Italian places.
I don't remember much because it was so loud I couldn't even think. I must have tried to block the expierence from my mind as for the next day I couldn't even remember what I did for dinner the previous night. It wasn't until I opened the refrigerator and saw half of my lasagna sitting there that I remembered.
HUGE Portions - even the "Small" size! Bring your appetite or as the wait staff recommends, buy a couple of entrees and share. The Large size is definitely for sharing or plenty for a "starving college student" to take home in a container for several more meals.
All food is excellent quality - we thoroughly enjoy dining here.
We enjoyed the food and the service very much. However, we were placed in a room where there was a party for some young person (18 or 21). The noise level was unacceptable. I know now that if I went back, and this happened again I would request a different area. However, the hostess should realize how to seat like aged people together. This was not enjoyable at all.
It was a Holiday so the restuarant was not as busy as usual, but service seemed a little slow that night...not sure if they were shortstaffed or what was exactly the problem...seemed to wait a while after we sat down before being asked if we wanted something to drink and then those took a while to come. Think there was a new bartender that night...things just seemed to move slow. Very unlike this restaurant. Maybe they had given our waiter too many tables in too short a time. Waiter (Ben) was very amicable and made our dinner enjoyable. Good thing we had no where to go but home since dinner took over 2 hrs for 4 people.
LOVED this place! It is family style, so be careful what you order! The large is said to feed 4-5 people, however it is more like 6-8! The meatballs were as big as my head! And everything was delicious !!! Plenty of leftovers! I celebrated my birthday there with my family and we had a great time! Even my hubby who is very picky loved it, and has recommend it to friends numerous times!
Not the same as when Buca Inc owned the concept. Last visit there was when the new ownership had just taken over so some things remained the same. Now with the transition complete, it removed the very certain feeling of "famigila" from the ambience. We sat at the kitchen table and the server was outstanding. He really brought his personallity to the table and we enjoyed it. Yet we missed the interaction with the Kitchen Manager/Chef. That table was always the responsibility of that person and made it more "fun". Granted it was a Monday night but that never seemed to make a difference at other locations. Anyhow. we did enjoy ourselves and did enjoy the meal.
