Buca di Beppo - Honolulu Ratings and Reviews
The spaghetti with meat sauce was good. My daughter liked the chicken piccatta. However the server just gave us the dinner menu automatically, even if we there at 11 am. I had to ask if they had a lunch menu. I know that the last time I dined there, there was a lunch menu. I'm surprised that she just gave us the dinner menu, which is mostly family size dishes and there were just the 2 of us.
Our experience at this place was a hit and a miss. We got togerther for my husband's birthay. The reseration was originally for 10 people but changed it to 5. Three of us arrived early and the host offered to seat us, which was awesome. We placed our appetizer order with the waithelp. We really enjoyed the stuffed mushrooms and the caprese salad but no bread was served. Our other two in the party did join us and that's when the service went downhill. Most of our food was delicious and was served piping hot. When the large platter of lasagna was served, we were so in awe of the presentation and very hungry. What a disappointment! Although, the plate was hot, and we were warned of it, the lasagna was at room temperature. We were served cold bread with our meal. The drink my husband ordered had something in it, which the bartender and waithelp should have seen before serving it. We had to stop our waithelp several times, and we kept asking him for things; plates, twice, cocktails, and bread. The waithelp was slammed in his section; he was sweating profusely as if he had taken a CrossFit class. One of my guests spoke to the manager. We don't know the details nor the outcome. I will say that our meal was great for the most part. If for any reason that we, as a group, decide on Italian food, this would not be our first choice. However; if we decided to catch a movie later in the evening and there were just 2 of us, and we were in the general area, we may consider returning. Three out of the five items ordered were great. There would be, of course, major discussion.
3 adults, 1 child. We ordered a small spaghetti and meatballs, small lasagna, small bread, green beans and small pizza. Also 2 sodas and 1 beer. The food was okay. The bread was the best. Our server came by a couple of times but we had to ask for soda and water refills. Our bill was just under $150 without the tip.
We celebrate our oldest and our youngest children’s birthdays in conjunction with one another every year at Buca’s. We are never disappointed. This year dear Peggy was our superstar point guard. She kept the youngest guests in our party happy (four 9-12 year old girls) and all of the remaining 11 (yes we had an additional unexpected guest) happy. She was efficient without being curt, concise without being rude, and most importantly personable and attentive without being cloying and interruptive. She augmented our event lovely. Our table location was PERFECT! We have a member of our group who is hard of hearing in one ear and loud cacophonous rooms are a disaster for dinner parties. Thank you again for making our family’s special day wonderful... again.
We were seated in the new renovated section which was nice. The section faced the street, and although I wouldn't really call it "scenic," if you're the claustrophobic type, the open street scene was nicer to look at than enclosed walls. We tried one of their new pasta dishes, Creamy Short Rib Orecchiette, but wasn't impressed. It lacked salt (perhaps they were thinking of the customers' health), and not enough shredded meat. The side of Spicy Sausage & Peppers was tasty. Next time,we'll stick to what we know is pretty good.
Undoubtedly one of the best dining experiences to have with friends or family. Or both. Bring appetites! I keep forgetting how much food the large portions are, almost to the point of feeling guilty that I didn't bring my own Tupperware for leftovers. Thankfully BdB provides. A platter of the Quattro forno (my fave) and a bowl of shrimp pasta can feed a small town. Our family of 6 couldn't finish it. But then again, we also had meatballs, eggplant parm, spicy shrimp, stuffed chicken, caprese, and some Brussels sprouts with bacon dish that we didn't necessarily care for. And 2 carafes of sangria. I'm still full from last night.
Came here with the family for the wife's birthday. The food was ok but what it lacked in quality was vastly outweighed by the outrageous kindness in the staff! I have never been to a restaurant that was so accommodating to children and made us feel so at home. Our waitress, Carol I believe her name was, was beyond polite, very attentive, and was very kind and engaging with us and our two small children. It truly was an experience I would only expect to have at a family dinner at home. The evening was exceptionally amazing because we happened to sit in an area where all the other patrons happened to be families with small children, five and under, and everyone was very kind to one another and the children all played together very well. It was almost surreal to see all the kids playing nicely together and the adults, complete strangers, all getting along and talking to one another! While the food was not the best I have had, it was enjoyable however we would return purely for the atmosphere! Very enjoyable evening for the family, thank you!
