Buca di Beppo - Florence - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Normally this Bucca is very good... We ordered the Ziti, it was barely warm, which is very unusual. Would've considered sending back, however, we had already been there far too long. The other disappointing thing was the Calamari... We used to love it there, however, the last couple of times we ordered, it wasn't very good (tough/chewy, and had sort of a burnt taste). We'll most likely go again, just hoping we start seeing some improvements.
We love the food at Buca but had stopped going since the manager Brad left. The service, wait time and food went downhill when he wasn't in charge. We decided to give it a new try and met the new manager and assistant manager and we were happy to see that things are looking up at this restaurant once again. Looking forward to going back.
Not a great experience. An hour before close and they were basically shut down. Seated us next to the kitchen and really wasn't enjoyable to see them mopping and eating food back there. We were told the appetizer was "frozen already", and when we got it, was chewy and undercooked. They pushed the veal at half off, but sadly it was awful. Both of us actually had stomach issues that night. Don't think we will be back.
Absolutely terrible experience. Dinner out with the family and it could not have been worse. We were seated 15 minutes after our reservation in a dirty room with tables that had dirty dishes on them next to us, bread was late, server was never available, floor was dirty, we had to wait way too long for everything. Lastly the pasta did not have enough sauce and drinks were never refilled. We will not be back
I had to rate the food but didn't get to eat here. My experience deserves negative stars. My family had to take my mother to the emergency room on Christmas Day. We had a couple of hours to wait while tests were being run so I checked Open Table and learned that the nearby Buca di Beppo in Florence was open and had seating available. I made the reservation. When we got to the restaurant people crammed the reception area, the hall, and were spilling out the door. I made my way to the host stand where a large fellow named Jeff, wearing a shirt covered in marinara, told me there would be a delay of at least 10 minutes. Some people in line spoke up saying that they had been waiting 90 minutes even with reservations! I asked Jeff how it was that at that minute Open Table showed availability in every time slot when they were clearly overbooked, he told me the restaurant has no control over what shows up on Open Table. I told Jeff that wasn't true and asked for a manager. Eventually a manager named Phillip or Phillips came and admitted that the wait would be considerable. When I asked him why Open Table showed all times available given the large waiting crowd he gave me the same line about that being Open Tables fault. I asked if it wasn't true that Open Table ties in to their reservation and seating system and showing availability was dishonest he apologized and said "there is nothing I can do. It's corporate policy."
I changed the reservation to Mitchell's in Newport who have a more honest reservation policy.
I don't know if it's just this Buca that is dishonest or if in fact they have a corporate policy that requires lying.
I have had a better experience in other Bucas. The food smelled great but I won't be back. Open Table should see if this is an everyday practice, or if somehow evil incompetents took over for the holidays.
Don't trust this one.
Food was cold and looked old. We ordered a large lasagna, we received 2 smalls and the one looked old and was barely warm. One person in our party ordered a beer that the waitress had to be reminded to get. Overall it wasn't a good experience. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant.
We needed a place that would allow us to make Mothers Day reservations for lunch for a party of 13. (Not usually an easy thing to do!). When we called Bucca, the representative was most helpful. Upon arrival, we were seated immediately, with no wait. Our waiter, (Darius), was great. He wished all the moms in our party Happy Mother's Day and continued to take excellent care of us during the whole dining experience. The food was great and reasonably priced when you take into consideration how large the portions are and how many each dinner serves. We ordered a large Caesar salad for the table and some Mozzerella sticks for appetizers. For dinner, we ordered the large Chicken Marsala, large fettuccine alfredo, small Spinach Florentine, small Baked Ziti and Small Spicy Chicken Rigatoni. Those dinners were more than plenty for all 13 of us and everyone enjoyed lots of delicious food! All of the dishes were very good, but as for the 'favorite' of the day, I believe the winner was the Chicken Marsala!
Been here to dine a few times before. Had the Chicken Parm. and the spaghetti and meat balls and both these dishes were fantastic. This time we shared the stuffed mushrooms and they were some of the best we have ever had. For the main course my wife and I shared the lasagne and it was some of the worst. All mushy and couldn't taste any meat in it. Never will order that again. I do know they really have good food though just to over priced in the evenings. You get the same amount of food for lunch at about 60% the cost. I know we will be going back just not for dinner only lunch.
First visit to Buca. Servings are very large, even for two. The salad and an order of brushetta would have been enough for our meal. The chicken saltimbocca was delicious and seemed less breaded and fried that the other dishes we saw. Green beans were crisp but cooked. Food was very good.
The service for the Thanksgiving Dinner was great, as always. However, the dinner itself was disappointing, compared to 2014. First, ham was not offered this year. Last year, we ordered both a ham and a turkey dinner (we had a total of, I believe, 18 in our party). Everyone was pleased, but this year, only turkey was available, and that was not the first choice for some. The stuffing was NOT good. It was nothing more than seasoned croutons. No one cared for it. The food quantity was disappointing. Last year, same number of guests in the party, and we had a lot left over for takeout. This year, the food was just enough, and quite frankly, overpriced for what we paid. Dessert was just pumpkin pie. Last year, I believe we had a pumpkin cheesecake as an option.
We love Buca, and always enjoy our visit, but unless you improve the Thanksgiving offering for next year, I think the group consensus is to go elsewhere.
On a general note, we always enjoy our dinners at Buca, but especially with the lunch menu. We don't care for ordering from the dinner menu when there is just two of us, since we have differing tastes, and the lunch menu is a much better deal for the cost.
Thank you to all of the staff who helped me set up a surprise party for my friend. They were kind enough to seat my party as they came in individually so that the surprise would not be ruined for my friend! Could not find another restaurant who would not only do rsvps but also would seat the party as they came in instead of waiting for entire party and ruining a birthday surprise. thank you
also, our waitress was awesome.....she made the evening more fun esp for the birthday girl and she made sure she had what she needed and the staff singing to her for her birthday.
