Buca di Beppo - Brea Ratings and Reviews
We ordered a new dish, Spicy Orecchiette al Sugo, and it contained sausage but there were only about 9 or 10 very small pieces of sausage in the entire bowl. Also there were about the same amount of very thin pieces of mushrooms in it, and the pasta was very al dente. I did ask the server about the lack of the above and he said they put in a certain amount which in our opinion is a royal rip-off. The dish was 95% pasta and some sauce, quite a disappointment especially because the price was not inexpensive. Also we had to ask for bread which should have been brought to the table when we arrived. The chopped salad was good but it seemed to us that the portion size had been reduced since our last visit and the price had been raised. Overall we were disappointed with our dinner and will not return any time soon.
I've always loved Buca, however this dinner was bad. The service was horrible. Plus we brought our own cake and they said they charge $15.00 to cut the cake! Took 50 minutes to get our food, and all we got was a "Thanks for your patience." Had to send my son to look for our waiter since he seemed to be lost. Like I said, always enjoyed Buca, but this visit has given my family and I second thoughts about returning.
Service was really bad and food was over cooked for this visit.
We ordered our drinks first. While "we thought" drinks are getting ready, our waiter came back to take our orders. After placing our order, and 40-50 minutes passed by... still no drinks. still waiting... and Guess what, our food showed up but still no drinks. (not even a glass of water). Since our waiter was missing, we asked few other restaurant employee about our drinks (even just a glass of water) we just wanted something to drink. nope, everybody ignored us. and finally we saw our waiter, we flagged him down and asked about our drinks... He didn't apologize or anything... and showed up with our drinks when we were almost done with our meal. He had a nerve to ask if we wanted to order more drinks with a comment like "this time won't be long" (so he knew he screwed up, but didn't care). He also asked if we wanted to order deserts. At that point, we were so frustrated.. just wanted to get out of the restaurant. The noise level was high, little children screaming left and right... almost felt like we were in the chuck e cheeses. Pasta was over cooked so mushy and meat had a funky taste to it.
Overall, we went out for fun evening, but quickly turned disaster.
Celebrated 3 Birthdays this evening. Our evening started out a little rocky, had to wait an extra 20 mins because we added 1 more person to our reservation. However, our waitress MARINA was amazing, she is the true definition of service with a smile and made up for the extra 30 minute wait.
We loved the pasta carbonara, Brussels sprouts and the chicken saltimbocca. The pizza was ok. I must say their tiramisu used to be really good but now it's not. It's too thick and heavy and tiramisu custard is supposed to be light and very fluffy. Also I had very little or no coffee flavorSorry but I was born in Italy so this one doesn't even compare.
Nice family style atmosphere with friendly wait staff. Food portions are very generous, even the "small" sizes are larger than expected. Great for special events or celebrations where the shared company is just as important as the meal. We had the spaghetti and meatballs (which are the size of baseballs), lasagna and fettucine Alfredo w/ chicken. Even with some picky eaters everyone enjoyed just what they wanted and left with stuffed bellies and big smiles. We will look forward to returning again.
My family & I have always have had good meals at Buca di Beppo. The food, the sangria, and of course the service from the reception desk to our table...excellent. The service we received from our server Jonathan was the best. He was very kind, courteous, and so accommodating. If you can just imagine celebrating mother's day with 6 women and 3 men. But Jonathan was great. He was there & he was very pleasant too.
Lost our reservation for Mother's Day.
Made reservation weeks in advance through Open Table. I received an email confirmation, but when we arrived my wife was told they didn't have a reservation. They started to turn my wife away, until I produced the email confirmation, then the manager stated that she found the reservation. It was a terrible and awkward start to a special occasion.
We were there to celebrate my moms 87th birthday! We requested a round table but none were available so we were stuffed into a long booth. We made the best of it but we were visibly cramped for table space. The dishes are just too large for the table.
Food was great as expected and service was great. We killed the large lasagna. So yummy! The photographer took good pictures but was a bit quirky with asking/confirming who was with whom.
Still a good time overall.
It started off great. Open Table makes it so easy to check in without the hassle of waiting for our table to be ready. Once in, the hostess was great and even gave my family a tour of the restaurant. Once we were seated it seemed like the bartender was also our server. Let's just say he didn't act like he wanted a tip. We waited a while for everything and he had a snobby demeanor about him. I hope this changes soon because we do like this place.
I have mixed feelings about this recent supper. On the one hand, the Chicken Limone was truly wonderful. I could rave on about it--tender, tasty, etc. But the bread was cold, wrinkly, and generally blah. And worse, the green beans had previously been really, really good, and this time they were barely passable even as a side dish. It may be that my previous experiences happened to be at the ideal peak of harvest time--I don't remember the exact month. But even Trader Joe's frozen green beans are much better than tonight's large, tough, and lacking taste. Overall still a good experience.
We've been using open Table for years and have never experienced an issue until today. When we checked in for our reservation on time (6pm) the hostess took my name and said we'd be seated in a few minutes. They were extremely busy but we sat right next to the hostess booth. 25 minutes later my fiancé and I are still waiting, there seems to be down time because all 3 hostesses were waiting around and people that came after us had all been seated. I finally get up to ask and it was as if I never checked in, asked for my name again and what time I had reservations for. Once they realized that we were never checked in it seemed as if we were just accommodated. One hostess immediately told another to seat us. It was obvious that we were never checked in to begin with and they couldn't find our reservation. Very misleading when the girl that initially took our name made it seem as if we were all checked in. We were pretty upset about how it all went down. No one ever apologized or recognized that there was a mistake made. We wouldve been very understanding. We were celebrating our ten year anniversary that we specified in the reservation but no one acknowledged it. Food was great and service was fine. It's so unfortunate that we didn't receive some apology or accommodation. I would never use open Table again for this particular bucca.
