Buca di Beppo - Albany Ratings and Reviews
We arrive early the waitress was very nice very attentive. The sangria was very delicious. We decided to do family style we got the buca trio platter it was ok. It was not yummy. Next we got the spicy chicken Rigatoni. The pasta was very plain no flavor the sauce was not yummy nothing to be exited about and the chicken looked to be frozen which I hate the taste of it. The place was entertaining looks like a museum.
I made a 6 pm reservation on Father's Day, for a party of 7. We arrived about 6:05, and was told the table was being prepared. We stood waiting to be seated for almost 30 minutes....wondered what was the point of making a reservation if we had to wait anyway. Many other dinners came in and were seated while we still waited, including another party that made reservations for 4-5 and stated they would be a party of 7, yet they were seated before us. I will admit the place was busy, but to wait 30 minutes for a seat when a reservation was made seemed a little long. Service was good, but even the food seemed to take a long time to be brought out. We ordered a salad and that came out in a timely manner, but at 7:36, after being seated at 6:30, we still hadn't received our entrees. We were offered and received complimentary desert for the long wait to be seated, but with 3 children, and a reservation for 6, seemed a bit late to get out of the restaurant at 8:45. The food was good, and the atmosphere allowed for talking and enjoying family, but the wait was less then desirable.
We had a large group (11 people, including 2 young children under 5). We went for Easter dinner. We were seated promptly at our reservation time. Our table was in an area that was pretty much private so it wasn't overly noisy. Our server was excellent, very attentive and promptly took care of any needs we had. There wasn't any delay in getting our food, considering it it was a busy holiday. The family style serving was nice. The chopped antipasto was delicious. The veal saltimbocca was great. The pasta with the chicken wasn't that great, it was bland. Since I come from a large Italian family, my expectations are pretty high when it comes to my pasta (and sauce). Other than that, I would recommend this restaurant but don't expect to have authentic pasta dishes like your Italian grandma made.
I'very been here a number of times and love the food, but it's expensive and incredibly noisy. I went on Valentine's Day this year (I made reservations but the place was packed with people who were told they didn't need reservations), ordered the Valentine special, waited for an hour and found out my waitress Alicia never put the ticket in for our food. The manager did apologize and gave us 20% off (which is an offer you can get via email). Probably not going back after the last three times of problems with loud groups & children and a pricey menu.
First time here couldn't have been better. From the fried mozzarella that melted in your mouth and the antipasto and Caesar salad to the chicken parmigiana and baked ziti, everything was so delicious. The chicken parm was very tasty and melted in your mouth. The atmosphere was very fitting and entertaining as all the walls were filled with Italian pictures and nick-nacks. Will definitely be going back!
The food was good. The atmosphere was gaudy in a fun way. Unfortunately, the service on the night we went was terrible. Our waitress was fine, but our reservation was at 5:45P and we didn't get our food until 7:30P. She blamed it on a bunch of big parties, which was not a good excuse as the place was made for big parties.
That said, if I am ever in Albany again and want a good pasta, great meatball and the best chicken parm I've ever had, I'll definitely go back.
Made a reservation, arrived on time & was seated in the farthest corner of this convoluted restaurant. Service took forever, we were asked if we wanted bread 3 times, said yes at each ask and yet it took 20 min. for that to arrive. We were given half a basked with no butter, it almost looked like it was leftover from another table. We finally placed our order, salad, pasta and meat. It took forever for what should have been a simple order. Nothing came out, and then finally the waiter appeared with all of our food including the salad that obsequiously was supposed to come first. Further, the salad was half the size it normally has been prior and was prepared incorrectly, btw, it was sent back 2ce as the cheese and prosciutto were to be on the side. The entree's were cold, and to be honest tasted different than I'd had prior times. I was disappointed and felt like I wasted money that eve. It was beyond mediocre. And the doggie bag of pasta we brought home, ended up in the garbage because it tasted so bad. Not sure if it was new line staff, but somebody needs to pay better attention the quality of the food at this location. It also needs a good cleaning.
I had a 6:30 reservation and wasn't seated until 6:45 with no apology from the host or manager. Our waiter kept using the word 'man' to my fiancé which I found a bit unprofessional, though he was flattered that the waiter thought he was young...otherwise the service was good.
We ordered the chicken Parmesan and spicy chicken rigatoni which were both phenomenal. I would come back and try other dishes, hopefully better service next time.
Discovered that they TOSS all of the food leftover from that day (entire cheesecakes and other foods that haven't been touched). Why not give to a shelter or at least allow the staff to take home. There are SO MANY hungry people out there and I DO NOT approve of all that waste.
Buca has been mostly hits, but this time was a big WHIFF! Chevns (that was the way it was spelled on the bill) our server was inattentive, and did not ask us if we were celebrating anything, as is the usual practice at Buca. Our son had chosen Buca for his 15th Birthday dinner, but the cramped, back wall table, and lack of attention by Chevns had us wanting to get out as soon as possible. After our meal was served he did not come to our table for 20 minutes. We watched him pay special attention to two other tables near us, so it was not as if he was too busy. Perhaps it was the $20 off coupon that put him in a inattentive mood, but we normally tip on actual price of food ordered. Not that day, less than 10% was all that he deserved and got from us, after the $20 came off the bill. If that is the service, we can take our business elsewhere.
We came here with a fairly large group for my brother's birthday as it is one of his favorite places. They sat us in the very back room with other large parties. As it was graduation weekend in the Capital Region, the place was packed with lot of big parties celebrating. We had about 14 people and only one waitress. But she was great and got everything done quickly and even kept up with drinks for everyone without being asked! The food was great as always and came quickly! Buca is great for a special occasion especially with a group, as long as you don't mind a a loud atmosphere.
WHEN WE WENT FOR OUR REGULAR VISIT TO BUCA THIS WEEK, WE ORDERED A LARGE VEGGIE PIZZA AND THE SPECIAL LINGUINI AND CLAMS. THE PORTIONS WERE VERY BIG. THEY BOTH WERE ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY COOKED, THE RIGHT TEMPERATURE, DELIVERED WITH A SMILE. LITTLE DID OUR WAITER KNOW, WHEN HE ASKED ABOUT HALF WAY THROUGH THE MOUND OF FOOD IF WE WANTED HIM TO WRAP THE REMAINDER UP FOR US, THAT WE WOULD END UP FINISHING EVERYTHING HE BROUGHT!! EVEN THE BREAD BEFORE THE MEAL. THIS WAS ONE FANTASTIC FEAST AND A VERY ROMANTIC LUNCHEON FOR TWO.
Portions are huge and every square inch of wall space is filled with pictures giving it air of authenticity; however, it felt - to us - contrived. Add the poor wine choices, mediocre food, generally slow service and top shelf pricing - we'd have to say not our favorite dinning experience.
Dined early on New Year's Eve. Fun ambiance. A "Lots o' stuff on the walls" kind of place. While they boast "Meatballs as big as your head" which sounds fun for kids to dig into, they were absolutely tasteless. All the entrees are fun to pass around, but pretty basic and fairly processed. Nonetheless, our table of nine enjoyed the meal and the time together in the bright, noisy setting which seemed fine for New Year's Eve, but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to dine again.
