Brown & Loe
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.

The service was outstanding. The food was melt in your mouth delicious. I had the peaches and cream and a butter lettuce salad with salmon. The peaches and cream were like a dream. The salmon was flavored to perfection and the portion size was filling. Everything was perfect
The food was great. It’s pretty noisy inside and we wanted to have a conversation so opted for the patio. Pimento cheese and bacon jam on toast was great. I loved the baby kale with beets salad, and had the spaghetti squash which was delicious. My husband had the trout and said it was really good as well.
I had the spaghetti squash and it was amazing- loved the goat cheese and walnuts in it. the paella was wonderful too and loved the brussell sprouts. I can't wait to go back and try other menu items. The service was great too
Great time at Brown and Loe! We were seated in the front center table, our guests felt a bit squished as people were walking towards the downstairs bathroom and walked right near our table. Food was delicious, as to be expected. We’ll be back again soon I’m sure!
Always receive fantastic service and food to order! Looking forward to next return!
This is a wonderful downtown restaurant with delicious food, a fun, urban interior, and a great manager, Josh, who makes it even better!
Great spot in River Market! The feel is hip and food excellent
Service was minimal and sparce. The waiter was at our table at most 4 times over the course of an hour and a half. The food took 30+ minutes to arrive. The atmosphere was also very loud. I took my wife for a birthday/anniversary dinner and found ourselves having to nearly yell to hear each other.
Good food. Casual attire and loud. Not good for an intimate setting.
Great waiter! Good food. Enjoyed the location. Easy parking during the week.
The food was amazing, the service was great. Came for happy hour but I wanted to stay for dinner! The drinks were so much different than any other happy hour I’ve been to and they were very good. The drinks alone make me want to go back!
Brunch is always amazing. You can't go wrong with anything.
inner was terrific. Had the Catfish. I will order it again. Our waitress was lovely. We were out on the patio and really had a pleasant evening.
Great for Sunday brunch outside on a beautiful farmer’s market day.
This was one of many visits that we have made, and as always it was EXCELLENT all around! Our service was exceptional!! And the food superb!!
I went with four co-workers and we each had something different, but all of us agreed the food was very good. I had the spaghetti squash with vegetables. It was incredible! And VERY filling. The menu options were not your typical bar food, they were creative and well prepared. A couple of people at my table also had the heirloom salad with butter lettuce and said that was fantastic as well.
Introduced Brown & Loe to friends. Great meal options (we all got something different), yummy salads, and to die for desserts. Service was attentive and engaging. We highly recommend this neighborhood gem.
Great food, fun atmosphere and -best of all- wonderful service! If you went when they first opened and weren't impressed, I would go back and give it another try. I have been extremely pleased on my last few visits.
We went for Father’s Day Brunch and they had like 6 options available and I picked the burger wasn’t great. Service was amazing.
Had the biscuits and gravy, gravy too thick, asked for addition gravy, would be nice to include small bowl with add’l gravy. Noticed another table only ate part of theirs, maybe same issue. Classic breakfast, ok but would like choice of cooked egg.
It was loud and a little warm. Food was great!!! Service was a little slow but good.
This is our third visit! Brown and Lowe is our new favorite KC restaurant!!!!! We love the food and the service is always good!
This is a one year old place that earns the term “joint.” Great, great atmosphere and service. Food is really good and very well priced. A hidden gem, that will keep us coming back.
We always love Brown and Loe, but our waitress was “off” went we went out for Fathers Day. Definitely not the type of service we have experienced before. The food remained delicious though.
Food and service was very good to excellent. Try the calamari app. Only gripe was the price of the special I ordered, Arctic Char with vegetables, quality was excellent but was a little shocked when the check came and it was $30.00. Would have gladly paid $20.00 but price was a little over what I would have expected.
I had the short ribs/grits special which was amazing! The other meals we average. Waitress was good, but seemed to be very busy as was slow to get to us. 4 people for dinner/drinks with no dessert was $300.
Laid back atmosphere, but a little noisy. Food and service were great. Cocktails were excellent. One of our favorites!
Food was delicious. Service was slow and awkward, with 4 or 5 different people seating, taking order, serving drinks, serving food, removing plates, and bringing the bill. Knew who our waitress was, but only saw her for ordering, checking in once, and bringing the bill. Would have liked more than 1 drink, but she never came back to ask if I wanted anything else.
My first visit. Beautiful room. Service was fast and friendly. Nice unique versions of food standards. Will return...
We wanted to try a new restaurant in the Kansas City area.
Overall it was a pretty good experience.
The place looks artsy and aesthetic and had a coffee bar with local coffee.
I had the spaghetti squash dish. It wasn't the best thing I've eaten, but it was tasty. The cheese on the top was the best part.
I would recommend the sandwiches more than anything.
If you're looking for something new, I'd give it a shot!
Went for a family Bday dinnner. Great experience! Our server was very professional and friendly! We’ll be back!
We ate here for another delicious brunch on a Sunday morning and for the first time were able to sit in the vault room, which is kind of fun and different.
So Husband and I eat out about five times a week and always looking for new places. We elected to come here for the food and not the beer. They have a large selection of beers on tap . Opted to sit outside on the patio. It was evening and quiet lovely. Be advised that the tall ceilings make the inside dining and bar area very loud and echoing, so if dinner and conversation are your intent you might want to move outside. Ordered mostly appetizers, salad, and sandwich. Husband ordered the tenderloin sandwich it was very very good tasted like fresh pork chop Hummus platter was also good with a trio of hummus selections fresh veggies and pita bread. Hostess recommended the special crab cake hush puppYes. They were delicious but we only received five which seems a bit pricey for $10 . Also tried the calamari also very good, but seemed one or two dollars more than one would expect to pay elsewhere. Another member of our party had one of the salads with a raspberry vinaigrette. It was a bit too sweet so we added dill ranch Dre which really helped . They had two large parties out of the patio but you couldn’t tell it by the service . It was quite efficient. We had a new server and she was very very good. We will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items.
Everybody there is very polite and professional.
The food is good.
If I had to find something to ‘complain’ about, it would be that the portions are very generous!
When out on a date night and not going directly back home, which is 30 miles away, we have to leave food on the table, which I am sorry to do.
James Taylor concert at Sprint Center
The food was great. We where seated outside and the tables where close together.
Have eaten here quite a few times - not sure what happened tonight. None the less the food was great. Bar and wait staff seemed over-whelmed. Our server was a delight - however, she was extremely busy. It took longer than it should to be served drinks - sometimes 15 minutes. We would have ordered more drinks and spent more $$ if the drinks had arrived in a more timely fashion. Management should be staffed up on busy nights - plan ahead folks.
Great restaurant but wish there was more than one restroom.
The atmosphere was busy, fun, and noisy. The servers were great and the food was very good and original. Loved the energy, tough not a place for a quiet romantic dinner. Will most definitely go back
Everything that we ordered was wonderful. We arrived fairly close to closing time yet the staff was friendly and the food was excellent. Had very little wait on a Friday night.
Food was disappointing...clearly not a hotspot on a Friday night.
