Brown & Loe
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.
It was great! You have a great building and wonderful staff. I enjoyed it immensely.
Great patio, excellent meal
The food was excellent! Really interesting menu. We sat on the patio as it was a beautiful day. So pleasant. Service was great. We will return!
Perfect day with a wonderful meal on the outside patio!!
We had a reservation Saturday morning at 11 and were seated on time outside. There was six of us, they were not busy but definitely had a steady flow of customers. There are no tables seated next to us. About 10 mins later there were three tables that were seated next to our table. Our server was slow to greet us and took forever just to get our drink orders. The three tables seated by us had their drinks and their food before we even received our drinks. Our servers name was Irene or something close to that. She disappeared for very long periods of time and her hands were shaking, I'm unsure what was going on with her. When we received our food five people's food came out, the sixth person's food which was eggs benedict came several minutes later and it was cold. So between very bad service and a cold breakfast it's hard to give a good rating.
The restaurant and entire staff was great and very accommodating. Most of the food is made to order and the chef made adjustments to meal due to a no pork diet. The restaurant was clean and the ambiance allowed for genuine conversation.
Love that I can make reservations here! The location is great, food is always great as well as the service. They are also always changing their menu and offer some unique dishes as well as traditional style dishes.
I had the Atlantic Seabass special and it was amazing. My wife had a steak which was good but the goat cheese mashed potatoes were the best.
We had a great lunch just girlfriends. The place is comfortable and modern at the same time. We had the chicken salad sandwiches and shrimp and grits; both were great! We highly recommend Brown and Lor
Always love the food and atmosphere, but what puts this place over the top is the cocktails and service.
I have visited Brown & Loe several times and have never left disappointed. I had the B&L salad and it was delicious! Looking forward to my next visit.
Appetizers were great. Entrees were terrible. Scallops were not seared, steak was served grey and raw in the middle, boar ribs were way over cooked.
Great space. Excellent salad options. Get here early for lunch as it gets crowded.
Great spot with great food. A little loud.
I really enjoyed the fresh spin on classic comfort food dishes. Very good cocktails. The only issue, though not terrible, is the acoustics. Fairly loud noise level even when not super busy.
People were nice and friendly! Food was quite good! Fun place to go to
We loved this restaurant. Good food, quiet and very convenient. We will definitely be back.
De licious portobello mushroom sandwich! They seemed a little shorthanded which made it hard to get out of there on time. Noise level was moderate but there are lots of hard surfaces so I can imagine it would be loud in there if it was really packed!
The server seemed rushed. We had to ask for the specials. The scallops were very small and the hush puppies weren’t fully cooked on the inside. Drinks were good and the atmosphere is nice.
First time visitors and the brunch is excellent. Portions were large and the service was great. Definitely need to try the Italian soda.
Good date. Service was good!
They were clearly under-staffed. Our server was nice but clearly had far too many tables. It took 20 minutes for him to come get our initial drink order. When we got our salads, we had to ask the staff person who brought our food about our drinks because we had not yet gotten them. We got our main course when we were only halfway through our salads. We ordered a second glass of wine each and it took far too long to get them. The food was decent, but I would not go back.
Great atmosphere although noisy! Menu was limited but enjoyed the special. The service was great!
The Mac and cheese was amazing. Our waitress was very friendly, efficient, and fun! We walked right in and made it to our concert on time!
My husband wasn't crazy about his fried chicken. I loved my meal.
We really like Brown and Loe. I will say, every time I’ve been the service has been QUITE slow. So not a place to
To go if you’re in a hurry but if you want a non-hurried leisurely dinner it is wonderful. The food is fantastic. Both comforting and imaginative at the same time. We will
Go back again and again.
We loved sitting in the old vault. Two people in our party are hard of hearing so not having noise behind them was wonderful for them!
We will give B&L another chance, but our initial experience was a bit of a disappointment. While our reservation was for Sunday afternoon at 1, we expected to select from the full menu since no brunch menu was featured on the web site.
The brunch menu was not as impressive as the menu we saw online and when we got our food it was just ok.
The service was hit-miss: I think we were assigned a primary server, but at least 3 or 4 different servers brought our food and drinks and checked on us. Some items were brought right away and others we had to wait for.
The atmosphere is terrific! We're hoping to go for dinner some evening to see if we have a better experience.
We visited Brown and Loe for brunch with our brunch booklet. I ordered a Bloody Mary to drink and it was delicious. My husband and I split the biscuits and gravy and the moco loco, per recommendation of our server. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. The moco loco was fine, but I wouldn’t order it again. Our service was fantastic! As many other reviews say, it is noisy, but I think the old building makes the acoustics what they are.
First time there and we’d go back. Really enjoyed our brunch.
This is one of my favorite places to eat in Kansas City!
The acoustics are very poor when the restaurant is busy. Couldn’t even hold good conversation because of the intense background noise.
Hush Puppies - tasty
Fallen Apple Cocktail - tasty
Meatloaf - ok, wouldn't get again
Shrimp & Grits - ok, wouldn't get again
We love to dine here! Food has always been fabulous. Tables were a bit close this time though... but at least our dining neighbors were sweet.
It was so so....I have been there before but the food is not my favorite place to eat. I met a friend and she loves it, so we went. I love the servers and the ambiance and really like to people watch and shop after.
The food was absolutely amazing. We had a variety of appetizers and main dishes. From the salmon to salads to scallops, everything was top notch.
I had the butter lettuce side salad to start and it was amazing! My husband had the kale salad and he really enjoyed his as well. We ordered the entree spaghetti squash and added the salmon as the protein. It was so amazing that we can't quit talking about it! We can't wait to go back and have it again! You definitely need a reservation as there were people waiting for our table.
Our experience was amazing. Sophie our server was top notch. She recommended a great dish to why wife. My only thing was place felt cold. Product of the old building I assume. We will come back most definitely.
