Brown & Loe
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.
Loved the ambiance of this place. Great location in the City Market and the food and environment was very cool.
We sat outside on a Sunday afternoon. Service was attentive, but not intrusive. Food was great, interesting and to overpriced.
I categorize this restaurant as "ok." I would never say to friends, "OMG! We have to go to Brown & Loe." Over-priced for portions and quality of food. Service was just "ok" as well. And the restaurant was WAY TOO LOUD.
Such a great area, great food and great service! The options to sit either inside or outside is nice and there was plenty of parking in the River market!
Enjoyed the meal. Quick service and great food.
The out on the patio. Sophie was very attentive. Had special chicken fried chicken. Great mashed potatoes came with large wedge salad. Also had salmon on coconut rice with mango salsa. One of the best salmon dishes I had. Very friend,y bar staff. Definitely recommend
Perfect spot for Sunday brunch. Great atmosphere, coming back to try outside seating
Friends in from out of town. They were staying at The Phillips. Invited them to meet at Brown and Loe!
Everything was very very good. Took some friends and we all will be back!!!
I loved the atmosphere it was adorable and cute. The restaurant was a little loud but the host allowed us to sit in a booth away from the parties which I liked. The patio looked fabulous. The food was phenomenal. The drinks took a long time to arrive but were great. Overall some things seemed over priced bit
The hostess’ pleasant greeting when we arrived set the tone for our brunch. The waiter was attentive and quite prompt despite a busy area. We started with the donut holes and stout ganache dipping sauce, graduated to the spinach salad (for which our waiter suggested bringing the large one rather than two small ones, for a $2 saving,) and the Summer Squash soup. All were beyond just good. The entrees — Benedicts and potato cakes — equally so. A visit to the restrooms was encouraging: they were spotless — always a good sign the whole place is kept clean. All in all, a good place to dine on all counts.
Drinks were slow getting outside to us but overall great
We had the intimate setting in the vault. Food was great, especially the brussel sprouts! Server was very knowledgeable of the specials and the menu. We will be going back!
We tried a little bit of everything and every.single.bit was delicious. Fantastic waiter who made the experience even better. Have already told 4 friends to check it out.
Great food & great service.
The service was attentive, the food was delicious, and the drinks were inventive.
Great place in the Rivermarket to have a wonderful dinner!!
our reservation may have gotten dropped because we showed up a bit late, but Brown & Loe didn't blink. they got a table ready for us and we were seated within minutes of arriving. our server was amazing. friendly and helpful. we had bluecorn hushpuppies and swordfish ceviche as appetizers. both were big hits. we had chicken and dumplings, cornmeal trout, nashville hot chicken, crispy pork shank as mains, with smoked gouda mac for the table. ALL were delicious! great experience. lively environment. most of all, excellent service from the time we go there until we left. THANK YOU!
Really liked the vibe other than it was loud and really too warm. The food and service were great!
The Meatloaf is excellent! We always enjoy the meal and excellent service. When we are in town visiting this is one of our favorite stops.
My favorite restaurant. They have something for everyone, even kids (fancy mac & cheese, chocolate phosphates). Fish dishes are always excellent. Fun drink menu.
I had an excellent experience with Brown & Loe! The waitress was incredibly kind and helpful! What a wonderful spot for some drinks and good food in the River Market!
Great location and amazing food!
Always a great experience and great service and food.
We've been here several times before but this was a great place for a brunch with the girls! Everything was delicious and the cocktails were perfect! Easy to make reservations online, we all liked how they take basic items - a roasted turkey sandwich for example - and move it up a notch! Avocado toast was divine! I know that they are often slammed for brunch but early on Sunday (10:15ish) we had no wait and lots of space to choose from. I highly recommend Brown & Loe for food & drinks, service and atmosphere any time of day!
Food was good. Service was great! A little pricy.
I enjoyed the days special, be surprised! Pleasant morning with amazing food. Thank you
Excellent service and great food
Great food and relaxed brunch
Nicely done, really good service.
The food was delicious!
The food was excellent and the service was very good. We all enjoyed the atmosphere.
WEe will be back for the super amazing gator tots.
Amazing food and atmosphere. Service was a little slow but would still highly recommend.
If you price your steak at $32 and place it at the top of the menu, it should be worthy of such treatment. I'm sorry, but the steak would have been completely tasteless without the gravy. It was completely bland. A medium rare sirloin should not taste like round steak. The rest of the meal was pretty well put together and of generally good quality, but, again, the steak should be something to remember. I hope to forget it soon, but not likely.
The food and service were wonderful, and we loved the historic setting. The only drawback was that the noise level was higher than I would have liked. Otherwise, perfect!
Loved the building. Waitress was find doing a good job. Catfish was not very good....really as bad as I have had in a long time.
I had requested a semi private table, as we were celebrating our anniversary. They had one held for us. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. As we left, the gentleman who seated us, walked outside and asked me if everything was ok and Congratulated us on our Anniversary. Very kind. We will be back.
Wedge salad and calamari were amazing
Brown and Loe is consistently good. Their meatloaf is excellent and the venue is impressive. Great times!
We all agreed that this was a place we wanted to return. Although we dined al fresco, the inside ambience was warm and friendly as we walked through this fascinating old building. The food was interestingly inventive with enough tried and true items to make it pleasing for all.
