Set in Kansas City’s historic City Market, Brown and Loe Restaurant’s inviting atmosphere is a blend of “big city” bistro with the welcoming casual flavor of a neighborhood favorite. Housed in a former Merchant’s Bank constructed in 1920, the restaurant honors the architectural details of the two-story building which features a façade of plate glass and verde marble floors and walls.
In the 1940’s, Brown and Loe was originally a produce broker with offices on the second floor of the Merchant’s Bank building. The new Brown and Loe Restaurant celebrates the techniques of curing, pickling and smoking meats, beautifully interpreted into marvelous American comfort cuisine. This is a true local venue, evidenced by the restaurant’s allegiance to the resident farmers and food artisans who supply most of the restaurant’s fresh ingredients.
Brown and Loe Restaurant is the second dining concept introduced by Harry Murphy, owner of the City Market’s popular Harry’s Country Club.

The food was absolutely delicious and the service and attention to guests impeccable. An email inquiry about food ingredients prior to our visit was kindly answered. It is quite apparent that the management and staff are wholeheartedly included in their restaurant. Highly recommended

The food was good but the prices weren't. I know I can find the same fare elsewhere for less/half the price. Just expected more (better taste and/or portions) for the price.

Brown and Loe is consistently good. The chicken fried chicken is DELICIOUS as is the trout. The service was attentive and it is always a nice experience. The venue is beautiful and it is a great addition to the KC restaurant scene.

Loved the experience! Great menu! The trout will make my top two freshwater fish dishes, and top 10 fish dishes that I have had!

It was our first time in. We had had reservations in the past and had to cancel.
Really would of liked to of heard the nightly specials! Heard another server sharing with another table. But it was crickets to us from our server. Otherwise, very nice experience, food was very good!

Food with friends. This is our "Go-To" spot for delicious dining. We have had lunch at Brown & Loe as well as dinner. Their drink menu is always unusual and delicious. Items on the menu have always been fresh and delicious. Service, top notch! Highly recommend Brown & Loe. If you have not tried it, add it to your list.

Visited Brown and Loe for Saturday brunch with foodie friends from San Francisco. All of us were enamored with their brunch menu. Everything looked so delicious we could not decide what we wanted. I went with the Caprese Sandwich special, one of my friends did the Potato Pancakes and my other friend went with the burger. All of us devoured our meals. We loved the ambiance and the service was impeccable. On the way to take my friends to the airport, they asked that we return to Brown and Loe on their next visit. I'll definitely be back before then! Great for any occasion, looking forward to trying it out at night for a date spot with my wife.

My husband says this is a great place for weekday lunch, and I agree it would be. For a catching-up-with-friends dinner, though, we probably should have chosen elsewhere because - even though I love, love the historic building - the high ceilings and hard floors make for a noisy experience. Food for dinner was just fine - I especially liked the butter lettuce salad - but not as special as the price might make them seem. :) Our server was great; food and bar drinks were a tad slow in coming but nothing horrible.

Our reservation was for 8, and we didn’t get sat until 8:45. After finally sitting and ordering drinks, we didn’t see our server or drinks until our food came out. To make up for the late drinks, they gave us a bottle of free champagne and a dessert. That definitely made up for the slow service. The food was great, and everyone at the table enjoyed their items. Overall, it was a positive experience and I would return.

Love the atmosphere! There was a bustle to it and I felt like I was in NYC or San Francisco. The noise level is hard to describe. It was loud, but not a “clangy” obnoxious loud. It was like a loud hum. The tables are close together, but that just lent to the atmosphere. I could hear those next to us, but not what they were saying.

The cocktails were beautiful and cocktail menu appears to be seasonal. Many drinks with bourbon. I ordered a margarita and it was perfection! Looking forward to the spring selection!

The food was phenomenal. We had the crostini appetizer. It had fig jam and pimento cheese and fresh tomatoes. Sounds like an odd combo, but it was delicious! I had the seafood paella for dinner. Plump shrimp, mussels, crawfish and salmon in a saffron rice. Absolutely fabulous! They didn’t skimp on the seafood and it was high quality! My husband had a steak and said it was cooked to perfection.

Service was great! We’ve found our new favorite spot! I didn’t even look at the tab as I will gladly pay for great food service and atmosphere, which has been difficult to find these days!

Brown & Loe is one of my favorite KC restaurants. I've never had a bad experience there. The happy hour is excellent. The drinks are always well-made and delicious. The food is wonderful. At happy hour, try the tacos or the corn dog and the happy hour drink specials can't be beat. And the patio is wonderful

This time, I was there for a pre-theatre dinner. Timely service. Excellent Manhattan. Was hungry for a burger, so that's what I got. Really juicy and a large portion. Excellent fries. And had the green beans on the side. Everything was excellent. And had plenty of time to get to our show with time to spare (could have taken the streetcar, but we drove).

We went for an early dinner before the theater for hubby's birthday. We loved it! The atmosphere is fun and has a great vibe - urban chic meets old time soda shop. The food is delicious! Hubby had the chicken fried chicken and loved it! I had the steak and it was fantastic. The goat cheese mashed potatoes are yummy! We split the key lime pie for dessert and it was more than plenty for both of us and we can eat some dessert, let me tell you! I have to say that the key lime pie is probably the best I've ever tasted. Just divine. We got a bottle of LaPosta Malbec and sat back to enjoy and people watch. What a great time - we plan to go back very soon! Oh, and the service was impeccable!!! 5 stars all the way for Brown and Loe.

We have been to your restaurant 3 times. In the past we have loved the food.
My spaghetti squash was 50 percent Brussel sprouts and they were hard as rocks. My husband's medium burger was bleeding all over the plate. We would have sent it back, but were with friends and did not want to make a scene. We suggested it to them, as we have had great food the prior two times. I am sure the chef was just having an off night. We will try it again.
Calamari was delicious.
Waiter was lovely.

This is not a dinner place! Stick to the sandwiches if going for lunch.

Food was not flavorful at all.

I had the calamari which the server said was their favorite. It was AWEFUL! The breading has no flavor and the sauces were gross.

I also had the BLT and paid $4 more to add salmon. FYI it’s NOT COOKED SALMON it’s smoked salmon like the stuff you can by in the store for charcuterie. That threw me for a loop and definitely something they should clarify on the menu!

Will not be returning.
