I very rarely actually recommend places to other people as tastes vary so much but I have no reservations at all about recommending Brooks. Every course was delicious, the service was both warm and efficient, and the whole meal represented excellent value. We actually stayed over night on a package that included dinner, breakfast and a delightful room. Thank you Brooks for a wonderful wedding anniversary!!

My birthday was ruined. When we arrived the bar was a complete mess with tables uncleared, empty carry out meal cartons and even articles of clothing lying around. Drinks were ordered and when we asked to open up a tab as we were dining we were informed that the restaurant was closed as there was a wedding. The booking was made and confirmed and even a reminder was sent. What is wrong with your booking system?

We arrived at Brooks Country House on 04.08.19 for a nights stay due. When we arrived we were greeted by two friendly receptionists who checked us in and showed us to our room. They advised there was a birthday party on that night but it shouldn't be too rowdy. We settled in to our room which unfortunately we felt needed updating and a real deep clean. Mould on the shower, musty smell and cracks everywhere! We booked a table to eat for 8pm and after waiting for about 5 minutes we were seated in a small dining room. We ordered our food and starters were bought out near enough straight away which we were a bit shocked at as they are clearly mass produced. I had the mushroom soup which was okay but I wouldn't recommend and my partner had the scotch egg which he enjoyed. As soon as the plates were cleared the mains arrived, the order was wrong so they were taken back and 5 minutes later the correct order of Chicken Supreme arrived. This was lovely and I would highly recommend, very tasty! The couple next to us had the smoked salmon duo starter and found a piece of glass in his salad and the general consensus amongst couples were that this hotel was a bit like faulty towers! I wouldn't necessarily recommend but it isn't the worst place we have stayed! Staff are friendly just needs a good clean and revamp!

The goat cheese tart (starter) was clearly mass produced and merely heated on the premises. The main course was OK but was the standard of pub food; no better. Very large dining room; only one other couple. On the plus side the wine was inexpensive.

On entrance, the hotel looked lovely. Stunning views all around and a nice looking hotel, unfortunately this set us up for a big fall. The house is old and in desperate need of updating, it seems to attract an older generation of people and the ambience in the restaurant was somewhat flat. We had an experience voucher for a 2 course set meal. The waitress told us it was a main and dessert, but my husband wanted a starter so was happy to pay. He ordered the scotch egg, which came out nicely presented, but £9 for half a scotch egg...!! If this was true fine dining, which I assume this hotel is trying to do, then perhaps we might accept that but it was nothing special in the slightest. We both ordered pork, I specifically asked if it was cooked a little pink, which I dont like, i was told no. However, when it arrived, it was definitely too undercooked for my liking. Being on a voucher, I didn't feel I could complain too much so my husband ate it. The pork was served with soggy sweet potato fries, which had ridiculously been left in gravy and the meat was wrapped in soggy, fatty bacon which they claimed to be pancetta. Vegetables were some overcooked cherry tomatoes and very strange pickled cauliflower, with no option to order any side veg. I eat out a fair amount and have always had the choice if ordering sides. Dessert was a double chocolate terrine, sounded nice on paper but reality was a sugary slab of something with only a hint of chocolate. The waitresses were not particularly helpful or professional and at the end of the meal, they charged us for 2 desserts, even though I had stuck to the 2 courses with the voucher. Apparently, it should have been starter and main included, not the mains and dessert we were told originally! Overall quite a disaster, I could have cooked something far better at home with little effort. Very disappointing.

Had a lovely meal. Service was a little slow as a large party came in but would go again.

This is a country hotel with a quirky feel about it. The downside to the dining experience was the service which was ok but we have had better.
