We were celebrating my husband’s birthday along with our wedding anniversary. So when I asked if I could bring a cake, I was told absolutely! I gave it to them upon our arrival and they brought it to us after we ate- candles and all!
We even had birthday and anniversary greetings welcoming us to our table... very nice!!
We patronize this restaurant at least a few times a year. Even with staff changes and menu changes, it never fails to satisfy. The steaks are always cooked to perfection and the service is always on point. Every experience has been above par for sure. Thank you to the Hall's for opening a divine place to enjoy good food and service.
We had the special for sunday evenings. Being our 33rd Anniversary we were hopeful for a very pleasant evening but as it turned out there was hardly any discussion between us. Our whole focus was in trying to eat our food. Particularly our steaks. We struggled the whole time trying to make the best of things. Not one bite of either of our steaks did we not have to spit something out of our mouths. It was embarrassing. We were getting practically no benefit from our steaks. We ate our bake potatoes and our wedge salad. It did not make for a nice memorable experience whatsoever. We should have left immediately I suppose and went elsewhere to gain a meaningful experience but we and I suppose others try to make the best of things. We were 15 dollars off by management to make out total 85 and left 100 bill with our waitress. Expensive baked potatoes and we both left a large heap of chewed up chunks on our plates. Can’t say that we’ll be back.
Everything was top notch
OK food could of been warmer. Other than that a good experience.
My husband was a tad disappointed with food. Caesar salad didn’t have true Caesar dressing and the croutons seemed like out of a bag. Cheese was oddly fluffy. I suggest shaved Parmesan.
Salmon was a tad mushy, maybe sausage made it that way.
I enjoyed the Brussels sprouts and capers in fish sauce.
Our waiter, Ray made the experience exceptional! ! He was attentive! He knew the menu and helped with suggestions! The Shrimp Cocktail was outstanding! We will definitely return!
Great food! Something for everyone - shrimp and grits was wonderful! Steaks are excellent! Top it off with a creme brûlée!
Best brunch I have ever had. The price is spot
On and worth every penny.
This place was so great! We came for a birthday dinner.. upon arrival there was a place card wishing us a happy birthday! Service was excellent, and steak was cooked perfectly. Everything was amazing from the oysters we started with, down to the chocolate truffles brought out with a lit candle to blow out for the birthday at the end of the meal. Definitely recommending to everyone!
Literally the most wonderful, amazing steak I have ever had! Worth every penny. Environment is super fun!
Our waitress was amazing and the food was absolutely phenomenal.
Although we enjoyed the food immensely we won't return. The music was far too loud and the table in the middle of the room was so loud and boisterous that my husband and I could not communicate with one another or the server. In fact, the server asked if we wanted to keep the bread for our dinner course but because he couldn't hear us, he removed the bread. We had to repeat everything we said to one another. We were hoping for a quiet more romantic dinner but this atmosphere was not conducive to that. I would highly recommend the food because it was great!
Food was subpar at best. Waitress was vary nice. Manager tried to explain what temp steaks are served after overcooking my steak. I asked for medium rare. It came out medium first then rare . I’m not a professional chef but I cook a lot for my family and when we entertain, I know how to cook a steak! Way overpriced!!!!!!
Great experience as usual. The food has always been amazing and flavorful. The menu has a lot of options.
Well since the kids were free I never voiced any unhappiness with the lack of desserts at 115pm for example and I always kept the order to one waffle to share etc . However, having seen the rise in your prices recently that will definitely no longer be the case !
Beautiful designed restaurant. Professional servers know the menu inside and out. Lively atmosphere. Great bar up front. Don’t forget about the speakeasy downstairs.
We Have been several times before, and had good experiences. The food was average for the price, and one of the steaks over cooked.
The New Year's Eve dinner and entertainment evening offered by the Brooklyn and The Butcher was a disappointment. Half the promised menu wasn't available by the time we arrived for our reserved table, and the rest seemed a poor attempt at slapping something together at the last minute. The one available sorbet? A tiny pool of raspberry something topped with pieces of rosemary. Surely the rosemary was meant to be infused, but we assumed they'd run out of the actual thing and hoped nobody would notice. I've never seen any raspberry/rosemary sorbet with actual pieces of rosemary stuck here and there anywhere on the planet. Only one of the two promised main courses was available, and that was fine, lobster and steak. We finished one entree between us and asked that the other be boxed. When paying the bill, we asked for the box and were told it had already been thrown out. The tables in the basement were cafeteria style, big square tables, and impossible to speak to each other comfortably. One side of the basement was dominated by a crowd of ten sitting on the couches and playing games, shrieking at one another and laughing hysterically as if they were in their own home. The best part of the evening was the band who are always wonderful. Otherwise, we were surprised and disappointed by a sort of shambles of what had promised to be a lovely New Year's celebration at one of our favorite restaurants.
New Albany is a great choice for an updated dining experience and Brooklyn and the Butcher leads the pack! Ian Hall and his team know how to creat great food, creative craft cocktails all in a great atmosphere!
I made reservations for New Year Eve but not at 12, at 8 pm. There was nothing on Open Table or the restaurant’s website saying they were only serving a fixed menu. My husband and I love a good steak but least favorite is a filet. Our only choice in steak was a filet with a lobster tail. Pretty but not what we would select off the menu. We chose the gnocchi instead. Bad idea. It came out not lukewarm but truly cold with no visible gnocchi. None. Just cold sauce. We sent it back and it came back warmer but not hot and still no identifiable gnocchi. Clearly it was all made this morning and sat around dissolving in cold sauce. Gross. I didn’t eat it. For this I paid the same price as the steak and lobster. The staff tried but this was such a fail. I felt ripped off and embarrassed to have been the one who chose the place.
Meal was great. portions smaller than last year‘s it was still delicious. Was a little disappointed that we didn’t get a booth like we had last year instead was seated at a table near the bar and very close to others took away the romance and lacked ambience.
The meal was very over-priced. We expected the full menu but were given two choices per course. When you pay $90 per person for a meal, it would be nice to have more choices in what you eat. Most of the courses were fine, but some we did not want to eat. The portions were also very small; it was as if they feared they would run out of food and had rationed it. This was our first experience here, and it is not likely that we will return because we have negative feelings about value and control. These seem to be big city prices for a small Southern Indiana town. I have eaten meals all over the US, Europe, and the Carribean; this was average in comparison. If the restaurant cannot handle the full menu on a busy night, then it should limit reservations rather than limit the menu. We heard many other customers around us ask why the menu was so limited. The people next to us sent an entire course back without touching it; this was sad since they were charged for the entire meal in one lump sum. One final complaint is that some of the food was not warm enough. It seemed as if it had been sitting out and allowed to cool off before being brought to the table. The only really memorable course was the vanilla creme brulee. It was tasty, but once again, the portion was inadequate. We eat expensive meals from time to time, but we want to choose how to spend the dollars. We spent relatively the same amount last New Year's Eve, but we ate at Jeff Ruby's and selected from a full menu.
We have come here several times for many reasons and every time we are not disappointed. The food is amazing, the service second to none, and we just feel good supporting our local business. They make your experience special no matter the occasion.
My wife took a night out to enjoy our date night.
The Sunday brunch was excellent. Lots of choices and all great. The cauliflower grits were awesome and the first time I have had them. Reasonable price too.
The brunch was absolutely delicious! Great service. Great drinks! Exactly what we’ve come to expect from Brooklyn and the Butcher.
The server was great the food was delicious and I would definitely go again!
Outstanding as usual - great food, great service, great cocktails. Hannah is a gem - she very kindly put up with me adding 2 people and moving my reservation back 30 minutes. We will definitely be back!
We waited nearly 2 hours for our food to come out. This was my second time coming there. The first was amazing and the reason I wanted to come back for my birthday dinner. However after waiting such a long time for our food to come, not given really any reason why it was taking so long.... it is definitely not a place on my list of must go to’s again. I understand a lot of people in our party of 9 ordered steaks... but we ordered them med rare or medium. One persons steak came out well done and very dry and they had to wait even longer for the replacement.
I feel bad that I talked this place up so much and it was a let down this night. For the price I Paid for my 22oz ribeye.... the wait shouldn’t have taken that long. We were given a few free creme brûlée’s for the trouble. Which by that time I was ready to leave to my next destination.
We had the 18 oz 30-year aged steak. It was cooked to medium-rare perfection! The outside was a little crispy and the inside was a beautiful red. It melted in my mouth! The Mac-n-Cheese was creamy and cheesy with a little crunch on top. The asparagus was cooked well. I recommend the steakhouse salad with the bacon crumbles and all the yummy flavors. Will definitely be going back.
Great meal to celebrate a birthday and engagement!
It was excellent and they currently have a $40 five course dinner on Sundays. I highly recommend it.
Brooklyn and the Butcher's Holiday Sunday brunch is wonderful. There's a festive atmosphere, our waiter was delightful, and the food was delicious. We will be back.
My wife and I had a great experience at Brooklyn and the Butcher. 5/5 rating by far. A special thanks to our server Lauren
If you get a steak without any special toppings I think they are under seasoned. But the NY strip with peppercorn sear is the way to go.
We were seated 15 minutes late even though we had a reservation. Isn't that what a reservation is for? There were only two of us. Other than that, the food and service were great.
Excellent service and greeting. Food is delicious.
It was an annual Christmas celebration for us six ladies. It was all of us first time to eat there and loved the service, drinks and food. Yes we will be back!
The customer service is unmatched and not overwhelming. The food was amazing and price point was on target!
