Low service quality, almost the worst Taco in town.
Food was great and came out quick, the waitress was very friendly and gave great recommendations
Broken English offers good food and drinks with a lively atmosphere and fun decor. I appreciate that they’re kid-friendly!
All-around great experience with exceptional customer service to ensure we had a quality time. Needed to change tables to accommodate party size and were able to do so easily with great assistance from the staff.
Very cute venue, we dined in the patio with a pup and were nicely accomodated. Food is tasty and drinks are awesome , they also cater to people who do not drink alcohol with amazing zesty Mexican juices.
Subpar food for fairly expensive prices; will not be returning.
Cool space - the food was good. I don't love having to pay for chips and salsa - that's always a let down, but we had good service and a taco platter. Would come back.
It’s said that the only thing I really enjoyed was the nachos and the horchata. The place just walking in was very dirty, the floors had a lot of garbage. Our waiter was so distracted. We asked the waiter for corn empanadas he said and checked in the kitchen and we were told they were out since the night before. We waited about 20min for our guacamole appetizer and that’s because we had to tell him we were waiting on it. Waited about another 15 min for salsa and again we had to ask for it. Another waiter was serving empanas to another two tables. I checked with him if they were the corn empanas and he tells me yes. I told him you might want to let out waiter know because we were told you didn’t have any. We waited 30min exactly for one order of nachos and two burgers. And about another 15 min for water after we asked. We had to be on him constantly it was very frustrating. $9 for the small amount of guacamole it’s way over priced. The nachos had more guacamole! And $11 for a margarita and an additional $3 because of the pineapple flavor it’s ridiculous, especially for the size of the drink. I will not return to this restaurant.
We had a great server, Nina. She recommended a bunch of different things and all were good. One negative was the amount of guacamole they give you with a lack of chips.
Great spot for lunch. Great patio
We did eat at this restaurant; used the Open Table reservation but then I got an email that we didn’t show up. They don’t seem to know how to credit the resrvation
They accommodated the meal preferences of my companion who is special needs. Food was great!
Food, drinks and atmosphere were good. However, service took extremely long. It took well over 30 mins to bring out our appetizer (chips and guacamole) and another 25 for 4 tacos. Aside from the wait time, its a fun time.
Worst service ever. Our server ignored us and hung out at the bar with a friend while taking selfies and talking.
Super fun ambiance and great tacos (and house margaritas). We went as a "farewell to freshman year" for our son family dinner and all four of us enjoyed it. We wish the taco meals came with standard sides of rice and beans to add a little more value, but that would be the only ding on our review. We had such a good time we even bought a souvenir hat for my husband for Father's Day.
This is a great location with a great atmosphere. I feel like the tacos are mediocre, and the price for things like guacamole and elote are high given how little of it you get.
Avoid this restaurant! Avoid the Sunday brunch! Go anywhere else! there are plenty of other wonderful restaurants in Chicago. Went for Sunday brunch at 12:30 pm - the food in the entire brunch buffet was totally gone in every serving plater. When we mentioned it to the waiter they responded “well this is a brunch and we don’t like to put to much food out at one time.” I am familiar with the brunch buffet concept and can understand some serving dishes needing replenishing but ALL the food gone across the entire buffet?
It gets worse.... I ordered a margarita up with salt and the waiter came back without the margarita and explained that their bartender does not make margaritas up. So just to clarify in case the waiter didn’t understand my drink order, I explained what I meant by a ‘margarita up with salt’ and the waiter replied “ so do you want to order something else to drink instead?” A Mexican restaurant where the bartender cannot make a margarita!?! I have dined at this restaurant several times before...although never for a Sunday brunch.... and had a margarita up with salt every time in the past. I explained that too but it made no difference to our waiter. We asked to speak to the manager and explained there was no food on the buffet table and his bartender could not make me a margarita ..... he responded that we could have free desserts if we wanted them. I have been to hundreds of restaurants throughout Chicago and this country but this was one of the worst restaurant experiences I have ever had.
Went for brunch. Buffet was totally empty and took an hour to be refilled (of the 2 hour brunch deal), drinks were often left empty. Food was good once we actually got some.
Mediocre food/drink and extremely slow service
Food was good but portions are small.
We had an excellent waitress!
Overall nice experience, could be more flexible with the number of servings in an order.
I've been to this location several times in the past year and this was by far my worst experience. I had requested outside seating as it was 80 degrees and sunny, we were sat in the middle of the restaurant next to a large party that was very noisy. Service was fine, our waiter was attentive. Our tacos came out in less than 5 mins, clearly they were not made to order which is fine for the slow cooked beef/pork but questionable for the fish of the day and the shrimp tacos. The quality of the tacos was also not what I remembered it to be. Halfway through our meal the music in the dining room was turned up so loud I could not hear my partner's conversation. Looking around the dining room it was clear that the majority of the guests did not appreciate this sudden change in volume. The music left my ears ringing, one newly seated family requested to be moved to the back room. Not sure if the increased volume had to do with the impending start of bar trivia in the other room or simply because it was 8pm on a Wednesday. Just before we requested our check the volume of the music was lowered, but was still too loud to carry a conversation. Overall, for the price of the drinks and meal, it was a bust of a night out. Probably wont be returning any time soon, which is a shame given their large patio and summer right around the corner.
Hadn't been back for a while, but always have a quality experience here. Our server, Rachel was excellent...friendly, helpful and great sense of humor :)
Nice place to meet up with friends. Tacos were great. Easy place for gluten-free dining.
This was my first time at Broken English. The server was very attentive. The drinks were great. The food didn't take too long to come out. The food was delicious!! I'd love to come back.
The tacos and beverages were great. Of you go with a group that wants to try multiple tacos, get the family style option of six or twelve tacos so everyone can share. Our group did that and it was great!
Seated quickly and food was delicious.
The food and service here was amazing. My husband and I visited after reading reviews. It was quiet as it was a Thursday lunchtime but the staff were so friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend!
This restaurant is a bit overrated. I'm Hispanic, so I have a high standard for Mexican food. The food at Broken English was just ok compared to smaller, authentic Mexican restaurants. I ordered the Who lives in a Pina cocktail and was disappointed that it was so small and barely had any alcohol. It was served in a plastic cup rather than a glass. I thought that made it seem cheap though the cocktail was $12. My favorite talk was the fried chicken taco - the slaw on top of it was pretty good.
Our server Sarah was fantastic we will be back again thank you so much for a great evening
Unless you are drinking, this experience goes very fast and is very loud!
I wouldn't rrecommend this place to anyone simply because the tacos did not stand up against ANY other taco joint I've been to. The tacos were simply subpar and we tried several of them. Shrimp, fish, fried chicken (yuck), carnitas, steak (just ok, definitely not flank steak) and barbocoa. If you couldn't manage to get a single taco right, how are you still in business?! Also, your decor?!? C'mon. This is Chicago, the home of amazing food and a town that does tacos so well. I can't believe people actually eat here and give good reviews. You need a new chef, perhaps one with a latin cuisine background because the one you got...just ain't it. I'm sorry, not sorry! Ugh, I'm still so angry, especially because your prices are grossly bloated for the amount and quality of food you get. UGH!!!
Way too little guacamole for what you pay for it, even if the price is similar to other restaurants.
Tacos came with NO lime. We had to ask for sour cream, which came in the smallest container possible.
Pre-concert quick sit down dinner. The pyro passion cocktail was delish and food came out fast. Guacamole and chips was fabulous too. A little too expensive in my opinion, but good food and drinks anyway.
The last time I brunched here, they had individual plates. The food was amazing and HOT. This time, they had a buffet and with food that had been sitting there. Definitely not coming back for brunch.
The margaritas and guacamole were the best part of this dining experience. The service was ok and the tacos were not enjoyable. But overall a fun bar for a drink and appetizer.
I had never been to Broken English during a time where they had a deal, so I was pleasantly surprised to be able to order chips & guac for $4, then 6 tacos for $20. I will also say that the food quality has seriously improved since I've been there last. I will be back!
Fantastic food at a great price. The portions seem small but are super filling. The decor, ambiance, and drinks make for an exceptional neighborhood night out.
The food was sub-par. Their salsa and margarita were disgusting and the tacos are good, but very overpriced. The service was excellent, but I could not hear a word my boyfriend said over the extremely loud music. I will not be going back.
Such a fun place to grab a bite and drinks with a group of friends. We got the margarita pitcher and it had about 8 glasses so it was definitely worth the price! The tacos were good, not the best I've ever had but the drinks and ambiance made up for it! Would definitely come back!
