Broken English Taco Pub - Lake Street
On the name, Garcia says, “I speak English with my friends, and I often find myself mixing in Spanish words because there are some phrases that simply don’t translate to English. This happens in many other languages and cultures, but that is what makes the name ‘Broken English’ fun – it is part of our daily slang.”

Other great restaurants with availability.Food was very good, attentive and prompt service are two of the most positive thoughts on this restaurant. It is EXTREMELY loud so we had to yell to hear each other. The tables are long and narrow so hard for a party of 7 to have room to eat. Over all good place.
The music, atmosphere and most importantly food were amazing! Very cool, eclectic place!!
I'll admit, I wasn't prepared for a fast-paced, energetic environment for dinner. That said, it was great! The food was really good and was served with lightning speed. Service was attentive at every step, but not pushy or rushed at all. DJ music was crankin', which was fun. I had planned on spending an hour or more at dinner before a concert, but we were done in under 30min. Definitely would go back.
Taco Tuesday is a great deal, especially for the Loop!
Lunch meeting. Should have known would be loud. Food is great though and service too.
Get a big plate of tacos and enjoy. Fun place great food
The tacos all seemed to have the same toppings, regardless of base protein . Menu sounded better than taste
Atmosphere was super loud - way too much woofer!
Tables were so crowded we couldn’t move our chairs
Service was slow. We had to ask for table to be cleared, water to be filled, and for check. ...and they weren’t crowded.
Other than charging $2.00 for a refill of chips and $9,00 for the smallest serving of guacamole I've ever seen all was yummy!! Our server Daniel we wonderful, the ambiance of the whole place was energetic.
Hostess was extremely rude — yelled at me for using open table because it “is harder on them”.
Great vibe :) Great food and drink 😋 Great service!
Great taco spot right in the heart of it all! Reasonably priced and fun atmosphere!
Taco Tuesday was a hit!
It suited our needs to be close to the theater for an 8 pm show. Convenient, close, fast service. We were seated right away. Server was charming and professional.
What I didn’t like was the charge for the salsa and chips. Yes. It’s on the menu. Yes, we willingly paid for it. Most Mexican restaurants provide this is as part of the experience and charm. And, the drinks were below average. The tacos and gauc were average.
Would I do it again? Maybe - just would not do tacos or chips & salsa. It just wouldn’t be at the top of my list. Too many options in Chicago
It was my first time at Broken English (Lake St. location) and I really liked it. Upon stepping in the restaurant, the decor makes you forget all of the steel and concrete of the big city just outside. Service was exceptionally friendly, helpful and energetic. The food was delicious. Great selection of tequilas. I'll definitely be back!
Lively place with upbeat music! Tacos were amazing and so were the drinks!
Not as good as it started out but fine if you’re desperate. Good chips / salsa.
The restaurant was close to my hotel. My burrito had no taste. Service was slow.
Incredible place with awesome food. We loved the decor and ambiance. It was very loud, but we were okay with it!
Prices were high for the amount of food that was served. Also, we were surprised about the cost for drinks; if you have a large(r) group and you order large-quantity drinks (like a pitcher of margaritas) be sure to check on the price first.
Great place to meet up for after work food & drinks
Loved the food, however for $9, the guacamole is too little. I loved my carne asada burrito and the salsa options. The horchata was perfect! It is too loud in there to have a conversation.
The food was fantastic and the support staff was very helpful. I would have given a five star rating however we didn’t see our server at all really. He just took our order and brought us our bill. The server at the next table seemed very welcoming and helpful however.
Food very good and reasonably priced. Service quick and efficient. Only complaint was the noise level. Couldn't hear a thing. Prob due in part to it being Loolapalooza weekend and we were there on Saturday night. Would definitely recommend and return.
The music was so loud we could barely carry on a conversation. Our waiter was not helpful in explaining the menu or offering suggestions. He was actually quite rude.
Incredibly rude waiter. Completely ruined dinner. I will never go back.
Excellent!
Delicious tacos, big margarita pitchers, great murals on the walls. It was a fun dining experience.
Broken English is one of my favorites! The food is always excellent and service is great.
Best burrito I have ever had!
I can’t believe I waited this long to try this place. It always seems to be busy when I walk by. We ordered a plate of 12 vegetarian tacos for a party of five. Absolutely delicious. Fun atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!
Flew up to Chi town to watch Hamilton!......choose this Taco Pub as our Friday evening meal...did not disappoint ...food was good! service was quick! Must try the guac! Was a bit loud ...but hey it is a pub!
The food was delicious as was the Mango Margaritas. But be warned the margaritas are small and expensive especially if you get flavored they add an up charge for that but don’t tell you until you get the bill. Better if buying the pitcher.
Decent street tacos. Fun vibe. We sat outside but the inside was really loud.
I definitely recommend BE if you're looking for drinks and also happen to want to munch on tacos. We came here for dinner but were disappointed with the food selection. The pork al pastor was delicious, but it doesn't come with beans and rice. They have great happy hour deals, too. Wouldn't recommend BE for someone looking for a full on Mexican dinner, but definitely for drinks, a fun place to hang out & drink, or if you just wanted a few tacos.
The food was great but it took them 45 min to bring 12 tacos, so we had to eat in a hurry.
Great place! It’s small but cute and cozy. Our server was absolutely amazing. The food and drinks were delicious!
It looks fantastic, colorful, fun inside & the servers were nice, but the food was awful. We love trying new restaurants & are open to flavor variety & a range of pricing. Here - pretty much everything - including drinks - is pre-packaged when tacos are best w fresh ingredients. Chips & guac app included slightly stale chips & not even a full very small bowl of guac for $9. Whatever. Three of us split a quesadilla & 3 types of tacos. Quesadilla was by far the “highlight” bc it tasted like a bit jazzier version of quesadilla from just abt anywhere. Server offered a free dessert for our incorrect order, but then we were charged for it. Mistakes happen, no biggie. But again - staff good, cute place, food bad.
We arrived about 20 minutes before our reservation, but they were able to seat us early. The food was delicious. While we ate inside their outdoor seating also looked nice.
Crazy busy given taco tuesday. Understaffed to serve given how busy it was.
It was really loud and the service wasn't great. But the food was yummy!
