Licensed in 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is America's oldest tavern. The menu offers a large selection of tavern favorites including "fall off the bone" BBQ ribs, steaks and seafood. Guest favorites are the Best of Philly finalist - Axe Burger, the Kobe Burger and the Legend sandwich. Many other style burgers, a seasonal menu, a gluten free menu and delicious dessert selections are also available.
The Broad Axe is also a great place to meet for refreshments and bar foods. There are 24 taps serving a constantly changing selection of craft beers. In addition, there are over 100 of the best bottled beers from around the world including the largest selection of gluten free beers in the area. High quality wine selections are featured at all price points. You will also find a large selection of vodkas, bourbons and scotches along with daily drink specials.

    We chose Broad Axe because even on a Saturday evening, we didn't have to wait for a table. The warmth of the fireplace was welcoming on a cold winter night. The variety of options on the menu was extensive but not too overwhelming. Tables were far enough apart from other parties that you could speak at a comfortable volume with your own company. Portion sizes are generous. The beet and Gorgonzala salad was tasty as well as the French dip sandwich. I'm not a big fan of home made potato chips.

    We booked this restaurant at the last minute for New Years Eve, early dinner. We were pleasantly surprised. Their were 4 of us who wanted to grab a bite before going to church that evening. We didn't want to travel far and it was a halfway point between us and the couple we were eating with. We ordered our food and had a good time talking with each other. Once the food arrived we all enjoyed it thoroughly. I usually order burgers well done from places and they never quite get it right so I usually have to send it back for more cooking. Here they got it right. I did not have to send it back! The portions were great as well. My husband ordered from the New Year's Eve menu and the rest of us ordered from the regular menu. Everything we had was very delicious. Wonderful last minute choice. We will probably go again.

    Out of 4 adults in our group, no one liked their meal. Sandwich rolls were stale. Chicken on Cobb salad was so dry it could not be cut. Waiter was working so hard because there were no bus boys/girls that we all felt bad for him.
