Brix Ratings and Reviews
Four of us had a delicious meal on the beautiful patio overlooking gardens and vineyards. Potstickers to start. Sole was had by three of us and beef by one. We shared fab side dishes of ratatouille, Leek gratin potatoes , succotash and snap beans. Beautiful evening and every bite delicious and cooked perfectly. Great service. Highly recommend. We will be back. Watermelon margarita a delight too. Thanks
It took over an hour to get our food and the salmon was not cooked. Our waiter did not check on us and we had to ask for our dinner. Very disappointed that we had made reservations a couple of months in advance and had a horrible experience. Would recommend someplace else if you are visiting NAPA. Had a wonderful dinner at IL Posto the next night.
My husband and I visited Brix for our anniversary trip in Napa. We did sit outside on their beautiful patio with a fabulous view! The only downside was we were seated at a table so close to 2 other couples we felt like we were speed dating. Once we got past the awkwardness in the close proximity of other guests, we did enjoy our meal! I had the hanger steak, which was delicious, but my husband's short rib was incredible! We paired them with the gratin and leek potatoes, which were my favorite, and the mac and cheese. Our appetizer of the crab fondue was also a good start. Overall, the food was great, the view was amazing, but it would have been nice to have a little more privacy in our seating, especially when you're paying so much for a meal and are trying to enjoy a romantic anniversary dinner. I would go back simply for that short rib!
Brix has always been on our "must do" for places to eat while visiting Napa. We were greeted by a grumpy hostess. While our server was okay, a perfect example of service was - we ordered sparkling water - a different server set the bottle down and walked away - didn't open it and didn't pour it. Overall a disappointment. It's off our list now.
We had dinner at Brix with 3 other couples. It came highly recommended to us from friends and didn't disappoint. We order 4-5 appetizers and everyone got an entree, table sides to share and drinks. The food quality was outstanding. Everything was fresh, delicious and full of flavor. The prices were reasonable for the food and ambience. We got to sit outside overlooking the gardens and mountains. Breathtaking! Server could have been slightly more attentive but it was a busy Saturday night so we understood. Will definitely be back!
Very disappointing. Hostess at check in made us feel like she was not interested in assisting us ( we had reservations) Food was average but service was horrible. Slow, no water refills, no drink re-orders even checked on. It was as not that busy. Bill was incorrect. We asked if we could get separate bills and she stated since there were 2 of same item it can't be separated?!! We had a lady having a special birthday and they offered nothing! I'd never go back.
We had been to Brix the previous year and had a wonderful experience. This time was way different!!!! Wondering if it's under new management? The service was extremely slow, no one seemed to have any follow through. The food wasn't anything special and we were overcharged $40 for our bottle of wine. Won't be revisiting this restaurant in the future!!
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our experience at Brix, it was our first time eating there. Very scenic, food was great and the staff was knowledgeable and very accommodating. We look forward to going back there and would recommend it to anyone who was looking for a great meal while in St. Helena. Thanks again to the Brix Staff for making it a memorable experience!
We were looking forward to eating at Brix for a long time. Unfortunately our experience was substandard at best. The food was good but the service was lacking to nonexistent . We were one of only 3 tables outside for lunch. The inside was half full. We asked to iced tea three times and never got it. We ordered the mac and cheese for the 6 of us to split as an appetizer. When it came out there was no serving utensil. I asked our server 3 times for a spoon as well as two other people several times to no avail. I finally caught our server 20 minutes later for the 7th request for a spoon and he got one for us finally. I suspect the mac and cheese is better when it first comes out rather than when it is stone cold.
Our server never did check on us a single time after our food was delivered. We had to go find him inside and get our check. Disappointiong to say the least!
Unfortunately, our experience at Brix was not that great. Upon arrival, we thought the restaurant and gardens were lovely. The service on the other hand wasn't . We saw and spoke to our waitress 2x the entire time we were there; otherwise she was MIA. We felt like we were invisible. Other tables received complimentary bread with their dinner. When we asked our waitress about the bread, she acted like she had no clue what we were asking for. The food was tasty, but not spectacular for the pricey a la carte menu.
Passable food in the bar did not make up for unfriendly and inattentive service in the restaurant. When we attempted to bring this to attention of the manager on duty, he was so indifferent and condescending that we left. Far too many places in Napa with good food and excellent service to put up with the attitude at Brix.
Brix was both a solid choice for an evening out as well as slightly underwhelming. The noise level was high, making conversation at our table in a corner a bit hard. The appetite course was pretty good (I had calamari) and the dipping sauce was top notch. The calamari managed to be under-crisp and slightly overcooked at the same time... but the sauce was really good.
The main course was underwhelming. While the short rib was cooked to perfection, it's au jus was frankly terrible. It tasted like a reduction of beef stock to which way too much liquid smoke flavor had been added. I managed to pull the meat up the side of the plat out of the au jus, which rescued the dinner.
The side, succotash, was excellent. Absolutely the star of the meal.
It's definitely NOT a cheap place, but some things were notable. A glass of a particular Cab Sauv (same year, same winery, same across the board) was $10 more here than at a slightly lower scale place two nights earlier.
Our service varied from good to not so good. One of my personal measurements is how long it takes to get my water refilled; here it was normally a dry glass hoping for someone to walk by.
Part of the issue might have been the table next to ours. That group had a complaint for everything, from drinks through appetizers through mains though dessert. The staff handled oit well, but it did not make for a comfortable dinner for us.
Brix was surprisingly casual with fine dining feel. My husband ordered one of the hamburgers which was over the top delicious - unique flavors, quality beef and large portion served with truffle fries. I had the sole which was light and tasty. Our sides were the risotto and tempura green beans which were also large portions and nice flavors. The service was top notch - friendly, responsive and sense of humor. One of the most outstanding aspects of Brix was the outdoor garden seating overlooking the mountains, sunflowers, grapes vines and gardens. We happened to be there on one of the hottest weekends on record but still enjoyed the atmosphere. I'd go back again next time in wine country!
It's hard to write a bad review for Brix because it's been a 5 star experience for us since our first visit about 10 years ago, and we've been going 2-4 times per year for the Sunday brunch since moving to California in 2011, bringing many friends & family. But something has changed.
Went yesterday for the brunch and were very disappointed.
1st - We had a reservation for our table for 4, but for some reason they sat us in what looked like a private party room. Tables were BIG (for 10). And because of that - we were in there with the families who brought their crying infants and loud toddlers. It was also stark, uninviting, and had no view of the outside or the nice ambiance of the restaurant. Not quite a nice napa experience. There were open tables for 4 in the main dining room, so?
2nd - the usual plentiful oysters were pitiful. In the 1 1/2 hours we were there, the big bowl was empty every time we went by. The guy would shuck one oyster and it would go on the plate of whoever was standing there waiting. Kept waiting for someone to come out with a full tray, as we've seen them do before when they fall behind. that never happened. Finally I just stood there & waited to get 2 oysters. Considering this is our favorite part of the buffet, we left VERY disappointed and feeling ripped off.
3rd - the dessert table kept running out of many things, and taking forever to be replenished. Went back 4X looking for things. Trifle did not get put out again until we mentioned it to our waiter.
Other minor things made us wonder if the management had changed for the worse? No staff we recognized. Food arranged on the line in a way that made no sense. Coffee being served to wrong person, and without the cream we asked for - then having to chase someone down to get it.
The food quality was still very good. But the negative factors really made us question if we'll continue our 10 year tradition of visiting Brix. REALLY disappointing. Get it together please.
