British Beer Company- Portsmouth

We were fortunate to slip in just before the rush. Our fried pickles were ok but seemed like they’d been frozen—too bad because the two sauces that accompanied them were good. Our salads were good quality. My husband enjoyed his beer. The Rose was not good but the Chardonnay was fine. Not bad fir the money but go somewhere else if you have time.
Good pub food. Great value
Great food, fantastic beer selection, service exemplary. What more can you ask?
Good pub food. Not sure I’d call it British but service was good and food tasty. Good for a casual meal. A bit pricey for what you get though.
Seated at a high top table in the bar area as we had requested. Waitress very efficient and took our drinks order promptly. Gave us plenty of time to study the menu, both opting for Rueben sandwiches, one with turkey and the other pastrami. Nice to have the options of sides, one chose onion rings (yummy!) and the other was the mixed vegetable of the day with a nice combination of broccoli, beans, and carrots. Bar area cleared out after the NE Patriots lost the football game to Pittsburgh. Fun bar with good food and right next door to our hotel, very convenient.
We were seated promptly and then they forgot about us. After 15 minutes, my husband went and got menus but it still took another 10 minutes for our first encounter with our server. She was super nice and did her best to provide for us and we have nothing negative to report about her. But the hostesses up front, mind you our table was right next to the hostess stand, let us sit that was for almost half an hour while they giggled and gossiped. The restaurant game is high stakes and BBP is going to have to step it up if they want to make it here long term.
The experience was a disaster. We waited nearly 1.5 hours for our meal. The inexperienced and ill equipped server, gabby, said it was bc there was a big party and several tickets ahead of ours. So? When meal arrived food was cold. Manager did not tend to us until it was too late. So bad they tore up our bill (5 people). Really inexcusable attitude and service.
We go here often. Food and service are excellent and dependable. Can be noisy at times.
The waitress was very nice. Food came after a long wait and we were told that part of my food was lost. They offered to make another meal which I did not want. They offered me a discount and took $2 off my meal. We would not go again.
In the midst of the current phenomenon whereby all bars seem to carry 75 different beers, many on tap, the British Beer Company could be said to boast a reasonably strong list of traditional beer choices, with something of an international flare. The decor and ambiance are inviting, and the food decent. Much like the emphasis on the establishment, the best food we had were the appetizers, i.e. bar food, like the pretzels and fried mozzarella. We were here two nights in a row, once for beers and the second night for a quick dinner before a show. Service was pretty spotty, though not outright bad, with some servers genuinely interested in what they were doing and others considerably less so. The vibe is decidedly middle-age and family, but then again the energy is probably better after 7 p.m. It is handy to the Hampton Inn, on the way to everything, and a fun spot to down a pint (or four), and so would happily recommend.
Check out their afternoon or happy hour specials, which are a great value. The value of the full priced entrees, though, are just OK.
Service was terribly slow and the restaurant was empty.
Beer list was excellent and food was great. Service was slow and it was loud.
It was very quiet when we went. We decided to sit outside. We got mozzarella sticks to start and then both got mac n cheese, which was delicious. I got a caesar salad as well. The food was great, however our waitress never came back to check on us and we sat the entire meal with empty glasses. After finishing eating, our waitress took like 10 minutes to come back to get the check. I thought maybe it was busy and was trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, however we went back through the restaurant on the way out and there were two other parties. I would go back again I just hope to not get the same waitress.
Food was great! Nice place to meet friends for lunch!
Been here a number of times and always found it to be good. The quality seems to have slipped a bit of late. Asked for additional chips for our nachos and got what would appear to be the bottom of the bag as there was few full size chips with lots of small pieces. That and the pizza was just not as good as in the past.
Great experience. Very accommodating staff. Perfect place for solid pub food at a good price. Will definitely return!
Food was okay. Service was horrific. We had to find our waiter to ask for the check after waiting 20 minutes when we were done eating. We were looking to have another round of drinks and dessert but not at that point.
BBC is a great place to have fun food and drinks. It was really easy to reserve my table and get right in.
We made a reservation and it turned out to be the wise thing to do because the restaurant was crowded. The Hostess let us know that even though there was a large waiting list we would be seated on time because we had the reservation (and we were). The food was excellent and our waitress was very attentive to your needs. I would go back again the next time we are in Portsmouth.
Normally I wouldn't give such a bad review however in this instance the food was so salty that if I wasn't extremely hungry I probably would not have eaten it. I had the baked haddock and I had to squeeze the lemon on it just to cut the saltiness. Service was good food came out quickly but unfortunately I don't know why it needed to be so salty
The food was terrible. Great vibe And good service.
Reserved a semi private room on line, place was ready and waiting when we got there, great food, great service, highly recommended.
Very great food, good service, recommend the pretzel appetizer! Definitely will be going back
My family LOVED the giant pretzel! The chowder was good, too. The fish and chips were a bit too greasy, but overall everything was good. I appreciated the gluten-free options on the menu, in particular the pizza. Service was good, too.
Went for Restaurant week because the menu options looked the most amazing. We were not disappointed! Food was amazing and the service was great. We left very full and happy. Will be back for regular menu items for certain!
Cocktails not so much extremely
Weak ..will be getting beer or wine instead
Good food with generous portions. The place was very busy but there was plenty of staff to handle the crowds. It was a little loud but fine as we were in a festive mood.
Immediately seated. Friendly service. Started with the Youngs Double Chocolate Stout--outstanding! Fish & Chips were done just right. Crispy batter on the fish, but not too much batter. Highly recommend!
Only had a short wait. Had great apps and food was delicious. Drinks came quickly and were made well.
Although we enjoyed our food, the noise level was extremely high. We couldn’t even hear each other.
A taste of Olde England in New England, situated in Portsmouth NH. Conveniently located downtown -- and a perfect place for a mid-week dose of good old-fashioned comfort food. Authentic pub atmosphere. As the Brits might say, "a bloody place for a pint and steak and ale pie." Got to love the Boddington's on draught.
Well, there where four of us, took forever to get anything, then we got our appetizers before our friends and then they tried to serve their meal before their appetizers came. After that, everything was good, except my husband's clams were way over cooked and his calamari was rubbery. Come to find out, new waiter.
The food was what you would find at any chain restaurant. Not bad, not great, just ok. I had fish and chips. The fish was cooked well, but the chips(fries) were soggy and limp. Beer was good, but not a large selection considering they call themselves a beer company.
Fun food and beer in a true English pub style atmosphere.
We had great craft beer, a giant pretzel app we shared that came with a gouda fondue, Brussels sprouts, Cole slaw, and great burgers cooked perfectly. Service was very attentive with our new trainee/trainer servers and a moderate bill to boot on a lovely summer evening. Great place!
Had special delicious lobster entrees after seeing play on father's day. Food was great and service was great.
Great food at reasonable prices and friendly staff.
Celebrated Mother's Day and a birthday - parents' first visit, daughters have been several times. Food was tasty, good value and selection. Comfortable atmosphere - will go again.
Loud band, way overcooked burgers, bad eggs benedict sauce (sour).
