About BRIO Tuscan Grille - Lombard - The Shops on Butterfield
BRIO (meaning "lively" or "full of life") is a "polished casual" restaurant serving authentic, northern Italian cuisine. The subtitle, "Tuscan Grille" is descriptive for a menu that features oven-roasted steaks, chops, and seafood; similar to what one would find in an authentic ristorante in Tuscany. BRIO's philosophy of "to eat well, is to live well" is why they only use the finest and freshest ingredients. BRIO brings the pleasure of a Tuscan country villa to the American city. BRIO Tuscan Grille - Lombard - The Shops on Butterfield Ratings and Reviews
This was our first time at Brio. Our server Maria greeted us promptly and took our drink order. She was attentive and knowledgeable throughout the evening and made us feel extremely welcome.
The food came out within a reasonable time after ordering and was delicious. The rest of the evening was perfect.
We go to the restaurant on a fairly regular basis and overall is very positive. However, recently we went and we had to wait almost 30 minutes until someone came and served us. The staff was simply overworked and did not have enough people… Our waitress was doing the best that she could but the reality was there was not enough time in the day to adequately serve all her tables. Poor staffing.
We've been to Brios a few times and really loved the food so we decided to make reservations for Christmas Eve. We were terribly disappointed. My husband ordered the surf & turf. He was expecting a steak with shrimp as described in the menu. The steak arrived but covered in some kind of gravy. And the shrimp were the smallest popcorn shrimp on top of the steak and also covered with that gravy. My husband said it tasted like it was a frozen meal heated up in the microwave. I had the Branzino. How could you go wrong with fish? Well, it was completely overcooked; almost like it was burnt. My mother ordered a side of the "grilled shrimp". She also got that popcorn shrimp in a very spicy sauce. We did tell the server that we did not expect that and asked to take it back because my mother cannot eat spicy food. They did take that off our bill. We are pretty easy going and don't like to make a big deal when things go bad so we never said anything to our server about the whole experience. Really felt for her because she was slammed and seemed very overwhelmed. So...sorry to say that we will not be going back to Brios again. We are hoping that it was just a holiday glitch and they will get back to their normal. Unfortunately we don't want to take another chance.
Great food as usual! Three couples celebrating one couple’s 50th Anniversary. Brio’s gave Anniversary couple dessert! Special fish (like Sea Bass) was delicious! Roasted Brussels sprouts very tasty! We had a great evening following a matinee at Drury Lane. We eat at Brio’s every time we attend a play, and always look forward to our meal.
Honestly, I wish I could give Brio highest marks for everything. The problem is the inconsistent entrees. For example, the first time I had the pesto chicken quinoa salad, it was fantastic. The second time the chicken was rubbery and not even digestible. The third time, there was no pesto on the chicken and I received half the amount of chicken compared to the two times before. Brio has a great menu with unique dishes. Their prices are a bit high. When we ordered carryout, our salad entrees were the size of side salads when compared to other restaurants and the high price made it painful. Every waitress we've had has been awesome and the hostess is always so friendly and quick to get us seated. The environment is so pleasant too. Bottom line, if the entrees were consistently good and the prices were lower, it would be a perfect restaurant and experience.
We'd been to Brio in North Naples, FL, and suggested to another couple that we try the Lombard location. It was like night and day.
The Naples spot was fantastic. The local version was terrible and we won't be back. They'd run out of a signature cocktail and it was only 6:00P. The food was cold. No cheese for the pasta. The server disappeared several times. The list goes on. It was a mess.
We'll never go back to this location.
For the most part dinner was fine. We did feel a little rushed, we hadn't finished one course when the other came out. One person ordered the ravioli and it came out with cool centers and was sent back only to return again not warm enough. On a positive side they did take it off the bill. Everything else was fine.
