Brine Seafood Shack
The culinary team at Brine follows the sustainable practices outlined by the Monterey Bay Seafood Watch, the nonprofit dedicated to empower consumers and restaurants to make choices that result in healthy oceans. Much of the seafood will be geo-tagged so Brine chefs know precisely where the fish was caught, down to the captain's name and boat.
Not the most comfortable chairs, but food was good and reasonably priced. Fairly noisy- why do restaurant designers love industrial so much? No textiles to help absorb sound.
I LOVE this place! Some of the best seafood I’ve ever had and the service was amazing! I can’t wait to go back.
The hush puppies are outstanding. I’ve never liked them until now. Of course everything we ordered was great but that stood out the most since I’ve never liked them until now; we’ll ONLY at Brine.
Mid-afternoon lunch on their patio. Fish tacos and fries were excellent. Attentive service. I plan to return!
We enjoyed this place for a casual seafood lunch. I had a Mahi sandwich that was delicious, moist, cooked to perfection. I thought it was a little pricey at 20 dollars with only one side. The Mahi tacos were good too only they could stand to have more fish in them.
Brine, was just ok. Nothing to write home about. Our server though she was training she was very personable and professional. My wife and I started with soups. The clam chowder and the lobster bisque. Both good not great. My wife ordered the shrimp skewers with rice which came to the table cold. The dish was remade but was over cooked the second time which gives shrimp a rubber texture. Decided not to eat and taken off bill. I had the bacon wrapped shrimp stuffed with crab. Was just ok the bacon was a bit over cooked a little too done. My salad with their house dressing was good. I was expecting more from Brine going by their Open Table score. Sorry to say this will be a first and last visit.
Service was wonderful, the food was very tasty with good sized portions, and the cocktails were creative and refreshing
had fish taco"s maybe 1oz of fish on each taco. Broccoli side was raw.
We sat outside so noise level was moderate. But our cocktails and food were delicious. Service was prompt and friendly.
Great atmosphere and great location, right in the middle of Avalon! Food and service were perfect! Highly recommend!
While the food was decent, the service was a struggle. The hostess didn't recognize that we had a reservation. They sat us at the only table without utensils which we asked 5 times for. The appetizers that my husband ordered arrived after the meals because the server never put the order in. I never received the glass of wine that I ordered. Our water glasses were never refilled...and they were tiny glasses. We would ask and it was a crap shoot on whether or not they would get refilled. Overall, it was quite a frustrating experience and I do not believe we will be back.
We have eaten at Brine many times and it has always been consistently good, not so much this time. The service was incredibly slow. We waited 30 minutes to receive our oysters on the half shell. We were told that the restaurant was swamped from 3-6 that day and the kitchen couldn't get caught up. It was 7:00 when we sat down and the restaurant was only half full, so not sure why the kitchen was still backed up. My husband had to spit one oyster out as he said it was a spoiled one. We told our waiter, Brian about it and my husband asked him to replace the one bad one. My husband asked 3 times for the replacement and never received it. Then it was another 30 minutes before we got our meals. We finally asked that the one bad oyster be removed from our bill, but it wasn't. As much as we liked Brines previously, we will not be going back anytime soon. The food did not seem as good as on previous occasions.
Food was great and the price was reasonable.
Outdoor seating, oysters and service were amazing!
Restaurant was busy but got seated right away with my reservation. Level of service was good and presentation and quality of meal was excellent. I will go again. If you are looking for a quiet and romantic restaurant this is not for you.
The food was good, there service was just ok and way too fast. This was the second time I visited and both times the entree was served before we were done with our appetizer.
The service was good. The food was average not anything special. We would go back for drinks and/or appetizers but pass on dinner.
Food was adequate...not much of a variety. Cool vibe but very noisy.
Food was excellent and staff was helpful and friendly. Seating is very close to you neighbor and noise level is high. Overall a very pleasant experience. We will be back !
Great selection of oysters on the half-shell, and always enjoy the sparking Pino Noir
Great place too have a late Valentines Day dinner.
Brine has the friendliest people working there that I have come across in some time. Everyone was pleasant and all said hello in passing, held doors, etc...I enjoyed all the staff here.
We sat outside on the patio because it was a delightful warm evening. Service was excellent of course.
Started with crab cakes, and finished with fish tacos. All good and filling, nothing overly fancy. Creamy shells were a good side accompaniment.
Outdoor seating on the upstairs patio during sunset was the real winner of this restaurant. Drinks were fantastic. Food was decent but nothing special or memorable. Will do again and again for the patio and drinks.
The oysters were the best I ever had. NO Tabasco Sauce!!
If they are going to use open table they should take the time to report that you showed for reservation.
3 of us went for dinner and sat at the bar. They also have an oyster bar. It's bright and cheery. Friendly and helpful staff. Shrimp and Fish was ginormous. All was great.
We did dine here today - host checked me in at 12:25pm. Open table was not updated but we do have receipt from our lunch. Thanks !
Great meal! Shrimp basket was phenomenal
We were really disappointed. I had the Lobster Roll and the roll was soggy with butter and the lobster was rubbery. My wife had the mahi mahi tacos and we make better tacos at home. The tortillas tasted store bought and the fillings were minimal with over cooked fish. The hush puppies were the only bright spot. When you don’t have many date nights it’s disappointing to spend good money on below average food.
Have been to Brine many times and it was excellent as always.
Food was great, service was also great...but it's REALLY LOUD! Went there for a dinner w/ 3 other family members and was not a great environment. Not sure why, but sounds like people at tables near you are yelling. Probably great for an energetic gathering, but for whatever reason, NOT good as a place for casual conversation.
Absolutely worth going out in the rain!!!! Miserable weather outside was more than made up for with our date at Brine. The host was smiling and welcoming and brought us quickly to our table. The place was packed so definitely make a reservation. Our server was happy, engaging and quick to take our drink order after offering up several suggestions for both food and drink. The drinks came promptly and we loved them. The fall fling had great grapefruit notes and effervescence. Our appetizer came and we devoured the calamari (from Rhode Island) and the oysters. If you love oysters then this is definitely the spot for you. We got an assortment of east and west coast and they delivered in flavor. The mignonette sauce with the oysters was divine. We couldn't decide on entrees so we ended up splitting the fish tacos and the shrimp basket. Both were lovely and actually quite a bit of food. The mahi fish tacos had a slight spiciness to them which was great and the shrimp were perfectly fried. All in all, we had a lovely time and we will definitely be back as soon as possible.
Great food as always.
Love this place and go back again and again. Outstanding fresh seafood.
Nice place in Avalon. Food was very good, good service. Very pleasant experience
Something has happened to Brine. Food is okay, but down a notch or so from previous visits. Very few customers and they seem to be out of more wines on their list than they have. Staff could use some better training.
Food was good but a little expensive for what you got. Staff was very friendly but ambiance was fair and not really Avalon worthy
I came in from NY to celebrate my birthday here, I stated this in my initial reservation. I also called and confirmed. Upon arriving the restaurant was a mess, everyone was scrambling. My table was not ready so I was offered the chance to sit upstairs. As my party walked to the upstairs it was a mess, food and tissue all over the floor and tables. The hostess did not have any sense of urgency, not even an apology.
Aside from that, our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating, the food was also super delicious. This is not a place I would recommend to celebrate a birthday or have reservations but for lunch or anything like that it’s perfect.
