Brine at Mosaic
Along with his family's famous Rappahannock and Olde Salt oysters at the raw bar, Croxton has enlisted renowned Chef John Critchley to set a menu leveraging the best of Mid-Atlantic bounty from seafood to regional meats and produce. Leveraging a wood-fired grill and rotisserie, guests will have a unique dining experience whether they're watching the chefs in our open kitchen, or talking to the shuckers at the raw bar. Expect to be wowed!

Food and drinks were very well made, and service was fine. The wood grilled swordfish and tuna tartare both were excellent. Oysters fresh and good.
Very good food, appropriate proportions. The dessert menu is a bit light.
Great service and the raw bar was amazing. I would definitely come back.
Happy Hour Oysters @ $1.25 each are good.
Everything else was just okay and we ordered just about everything on the menu. Menu needs a reset with some more inspiring options or this will be our last visit.
Bottles of wine are overpriced as well. Beers were filled 8/10ths of the glass.
The food is excellent. It would be nice if they periodically changed their menu. Some new items would be nice.
Great service, fun night !
Had dinner with friends on Monday evening. Very few diners then so noise level was low. Excellent menu and food quality high. Very attentive and friendly service. Would like to re-evaluate on a busy weekend evening. We do expect to return.
I definitely recommend Brine at Mosaic! In fact, when my family comes to visit, that is where I will be taking them. The service was friendly and fast, and the food was exceptional. My youngest son tried swordfish for the first time and loved it. My husband ordered the squid ink linguine (for the first time here in the US) and said that it was every bit as good as the squid dishes he loved in Sicily. My scallops were cooked to perfection and they were very good at accommodating my dairy-free preference. Our oldest son had a burger that was devoured much faster than he should have and declared it extremely good. I also tried the oysters. They were good and I appreciated that you could order them one at a time. If you are going to try oysters for the first time, it is good to do so at a place that has 117 years of history with the mollusks.
We had brunch and the food and service was amazing. The Shrimp and Grits were perfect.
Our tuna tartare was extraordinarily delicious. Lovely flavors and a mix of textures. The crostini were divine! So yummy, dessert was not necessary. Our waiter was awful. Inane. Asked if we'd decided what we wanted to order 15 minutes AFTER we'd given him our orders. And on it went like that. Everything that came out of his mouth was surprisingly senseless. He was going to pour more wine. I told him the bottle was empty. He poured (nothing) anyhow. He had no business being a waiter.
Great service and good food.
Overpriced, underwhelming. I received a gift card to Brine, that's why we went. We had sticker shock at the end of the night. The table-clearing verges on obsessive -- it felt as though someone was always coming by taking something off the table. Our waiter was good, but our it took 12 minutes to get our initial drinks: an Aperol Spritz and a draught beer to our table. My $13 ceviche was served without crackers; mostly shrimp and pineapple and no fish or scallops or calamari. I won't be back.
The noise level was low when we dined because it was already late, 9:30 pm, perhaps it was much busier earlier. We ordered trout and scallops and both dishes were excellent. Finished dinner with shared creme caramel, yum! Worth going back again and will highly recommend.
The food was ‘alright.’ Very interesting dishes on the menu, but they lacked the ‘umph.’ Either not too much spice or salt, not sure. We ordered the ceviche, and it was a bit too sweet, not savory for us. Portions were on the smaller side (which we liked), but limited flavors were making us ask for more bread (which was sweet, too).
The food was really really good! Service was fine, just a little slow when we were trying to get the check. We enjoyed ourselves.
Very fresh oysters!
Very accommodating for seniors requesting quite table
The food was bland. Our server seemed a little frantic or out of sorts in a way. Food was bland and the chopped salad seemed days old.
Oysters were good, oyster chowder was really quite good. Tuna tartare was way too sweet and squid ink linguini had overcooked shrimp.
Waiter forgot to put in our Tuna tartare order in for about 25 mins.
Otherwise pleasant experience
Our family thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Brine the other night. Service was prompt, and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Most of us had scallops, and we all agreed they were delicious. We would definitely go back again.
It was greAt! J.C. Who was our server did amazing and took phenomenal care of us!! Love brine!! You guys rock
Excellent food, fantastic decor and ambiance, great service! You must try this place. You will come back again.
Four of us went on a Saturday evening. Food was outstanding. The restaurant was not packed but waiters were splitting time between outside tables and inside so service was a little slow. Otherwise, it was a great evening!
Our server, the whole roasted fish, and everything about Brine was wonderful. I haven’t had such an overall great experience in a long time.
My first time to Brine was a great experience! Need more desert diversity!
We went to Brine for our anniversary. They reserved the same table at which I proposed and the service, food, and ambience were outstanding. We love this place. Steak was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. My compliments to the chef!
Our server was absolutely amazing!
It’s a little more on the pricey side for everyday dining but it is not an upscale atmosphere.
The restaurant has a great vibe (lots of patrons sitting outside enjoying the sunshine), and the waitstaff was attentive, which I appreciated, especially due to food allergy. Although what I had for dinner was good (ordered steamed shrimp, and cauliflower side), my tab seemed high (almost $30) for the amount of food -- there could have been more of the "sharable" shrimp. It was great catching up with my friend though; Brine was a great spot otherwise before heading to the movies!
The place to go for oysters. We also like the beer and wine by the glass selections and fresh fish. Neighborhood gem.
They really do need more food options. I love the oysters and that's why I come here but I feel like I don't have enough warm food options for dinner. On this particular day they had the door open so it felt really muggy inside. There aren't enough cocktail options either. I feel like I get much better cocktail options and drinks at other fine restaurants like McCormicks. Even True food Restaurant has better cocktail options
We've been to this restaurant several times before so decided to go in for dinner over the weekend. Boy, what a huge mistake. Our server never showed up until we had to flag down the host after waiting for 5+ min. Then I watched a confused food runner put down a basket of bread on a table next to ours, go back to the kitchen area to talk to another food runner, walk back to this said table, take the basket of bread back saying he put it there by mistake and put that same basket right on our table. Gross! We got our appetizers and entrees--they were mediocre at best. Our kids then were handed bowls of completely melted "soup" of ice cream with their kids' meals. The food runner that brought those bowls literally just threw them on the table and ran off so fast and ignored my repeated call. When I could finally get our server's attention, she said it was because it was warm in the restaurant. Yeah, ok. She did offer to bring out new bowls but they weren't any better, at which point, she said the freezer was broken. Our server was unattentive and slow, the food runners were completely incompetent and rude and honestly, the food was overpriced for its quality. With so many great restaurant options nearby, we'll never return to this restaurant.
Pretty loud, menu wasn’t clear if you weren’t ordering from the raw menu
Food was okay but nothing to write home about.
Dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal.
Great food. Great service. Great for a date night.
Nice meal, nice location, good service
Hidden gem in Mosaic district!
Everything about Brine was great for a Friday date night. We sat outside, had oysters and brussel sprouts for appetizers, and a salmon and burger for our entree. The food was wonderful and our server was attentive and courteous. This is definitely a must-visit the next time you're at Mosaic.
We all ordered the Rib Eye and it was extremely delicious! The cauliflower mash and asparagus were excellent sides.
For being a seafood focused restaurant, it really leaves you longing. The oysters were inconsistent and didn’t taste fresh, and the shrimp couldn’t have been more overcooked:(
