Brindisi Ratings and Reviews
Needed a spot to meet visiting relatives (group of 6) on short notice. Hadn't been to Belden Lane for quite some time and was pleasantly surprised that it was quite busy, except for Brindisi which was more quiet than the others. Was a little concerned but we sat inside (it was raining) and enjoyed a long quiet visit with delicious food! We all had something different and it was all really good. The wine I had was mediocre, but there was a good choice on the menu so I could have easily picked something different and been happy. It was a pleasant surprise and one that puts Brindisi on my radar for future dinners in the city!
Again, Brindisi did not disappoint. The wild salmon with spinach and pea purée was so delicious, as was the shaved Brussel sprouts and avocado salad. Antonio is one of the most attentive waiters on the planet. He is responsive, thoughtful and caring. Can't wait to return!
Horrible experience. We should have read the reviews before we went. Menu is nothing like what is on line. Actual restaurant menu is quite limited. Antonio had an attitude when we first told him this. It is a seafood restaurant, but we're told they only had certain items because they only receive fish deliveries M thru Friday. We were there Saturday. Owner came over and told us he is a small restaurant and can't keep updating his web site, yet he sent me an email telling me they update it every three days. Antonio told us no tiramisu , yet owner emailed me they had it. Owner came over and scolded me for being mean to waiter. Food was good, but small portions. Salad had tiny slivers of almonds( could barely see them, no cheese and a few berries. We drive clear across town for an awful meal. We had seen them on Instagram, we're told to mention this for a treat. Nothing. False advertising...would never go back and we dine out constantly.
What a great little restaurant! Just a block south of California street, with a wonderful menu and excellent wine list, great food and lovely atmosphere and ambiance. Fine staff and excellent service - the waiter was very attentive and the chef came out to visit each table in turn and we had a wonderful conversation with him. We had the sweet corn soup, the fettuccini with green peas, and pasta with ragout of pork, with a Sicilian wine. Five stars!
Generally an underwhelming experience. Our waiter was very unfriendly (not even a smile and hello), we had to flag someone down every time we needed someone. Pair this with mediocre food (goopy lukewarm carbonara, tuna poke with hardly any tuna and four small toast points), and suffice it to say we won't be back.
Dropped in for a minor celebration with a same day reservation. Our meal selections were very well prepared: the sea bass was as close to perfectly cooked as we've experienced in ages and sat on a bed of delicious warm ratatouille. Our other main plate of cioppino was heaped with excellent seafoods steeped in an herb sauce that outshown the ordinary standard of tomato sauces. We observed other tables speaking of the quality of their individual pizzal. It's an easy affordable choice for a fine meal in the Financial District.
It was very disappointing. For the past 4 years we have made this our go to restaurant whenever we are in town on business. This time the menu didn't match the website. There were fewer choices. Two of us enjoyed our dishes, but the other two were very disappointed in the quality of the Sea Bass they ordered. We all tasted it and agreed that it wasn't what one would expect Sea Bass to taste like. It was bland and rubbery.
The waiter / manager tried to make it up to us with a plate of raviolis and a free cocktail. He was very nice. In the end, we just couldn't get past the poor quality of Sea Bass.
I've never written a poor review, but in this instance I feel I must be honest. We will not return to this restaurant. It's very disappointing for because we like the location.
We hate restaurants that cram tables together along the wall, so we were delighted to be seated at a table with ample room on either side. After reviewing the menus and ordering drinks, we were rudely moved to another table crammed in the corner only inches from the table next to us Si that the restaurant could accommodate a large party. Apparently RSA attendees who visit once a year take priority over people who live in the neighbourhood.
That said, the food, as in the past, was delicious. But the restaurant should treat people who frequent the establishment all year with a little more respect.
We had a reservation for a party of 3 and were seated on time. However we were not attended to for a long time and when waiter finally came and took our order, he was rushed. Our food did not come and it was about an hour already since we were seated. When we inquired, we were told our order was misplaced and the kitchen never received the order. They offered to prepare a quick meal for us but we had to leave for another meeting. Very disappointed. A good run restaurant would not make such a mistake. I would have been more understanding if they were more genuine in their apologies. We did not taste food to rate it but I gave it a low rating based on overall experience. I would not go there again.
Would not recommend this restaurant and wondering if I would even recommend OpenTable to anyone. You overbooked this restaurant. It was extremely embarrassing to have a business client so up to be told that OpenTable overbooked restaurant. How is that even possible with todays technology? As I'm sure I wasn't the only one, maybe a note to say I'm sorry.....but you want me to review restaurant.
Although the food was very good, the service was terrible. We were ignore most of the time and had to flag down a bus boy to get a waiter to take our drink order and it took a while before the waiter came. He was abrupt and not friendly at all. It was quite busy but that is no excuse for being almost rude. I will not go back any time soon.
The first time I visited Bridisi with my family we had exceptional service , an exceptional meal and we felt the value was great! Upon leaving the city after that trip, my wife and I couldn't wait to go back to Brindisi for dinner the next time we were up in the city. We told countless people who are familiar with the Bay Area what a great meal we had at Brindisi. Well what a difference six months can make. We all went back to Brindisi the week between Christmas and New Year's, sat down and expected and exceptional meal and service like the previous visit. What a disappointment this last visit was. The food was tepid, the fish was a wee bit smelly, The service was terrible and the ambience lacked much. Not sure what happened, But I do know they were understaffed that night, but I think we're going to scratch it off our list. Maybe it's a bad idea but maybe it isn't?
Food and service were excellent. Very authentic southern Italian coastal cuisine. Disappointed the day we dined there the grilled octopus was not available. It was one of the reasons we chose the restaurant. We dined outside and it was a bit chilly even with their heat lamps. But the service was attentive and pleasant and the food was very good.
My husband and I decided to have a weekend get away in the city and I was craving seafood for dinner. I saw the reviews and it was close to the hotel so we decided to walk to the restaurant.
Our server was less tentative but the owner (at least I think he was the owner) was very nice and accommodating. My husband could not eat his dish due to a strong smell from the seafood but the owner was kind enough to exchange his dish.
The food was a bit too salty for me and fair overall. I was hoping for a better experience but we did not leave unhappy. I think the ambience could have also improved by adding some market lights like the nearby restaurants and perhaps some small table candles would have been a nice touch.
I first came to this wonderful restaurant when my daughter was married in 2007. We had the rehearsal dinner here. I have been coming back ever since. I have also referred numerous friends, each of whom had a positive experience. I think that spells consistency! I look forward to many more delicious dinners and outstanding service from a warm and efficient staff. Thank you!
We had a business dinner after a long day. We were staying in Union Square, near Hilton. So, it was a bit of a walk but not strenuous. The main dining is outside with entrance from the sidewalk between buildings. This appears to be part of a group (at least two) restaurants. We wanted a light meal so shared three appetizers. Unfortunately, the tap wasn't working but the creative waiter went next door to the sister restaurant to retrieve two beers. He read our disappointing upon ordering and resolved the problem. He was terrific in all aspects of the meal - attentive, non-intrusive, no push to leave. The food was perfect. The soup was custom with intent of having shrimp but my partner expressed interest in scallops and they volunteered to substitute scallops in the soup. Another innovative, accommodating response. The owner (or, at least, lead) was friendly to all passing walkers and not pushy. When I return to SF, I will eat there because of the food, attention to detail and accommodation.
Brindisi is my favorite Italian dinner spot in SF. I was directed to it by the consierge at the Mandarin Oriental several years ago. The seafood dishes never disappoint. You would be hard pressed to find better seafood dishes in many US cities. The service was short staffed the evening we recently visited but our waiter worked that much harder to make us feel at home.
It's a shame the this place doesn't take more stock in its service and appearance of the place. When we first walked In there was an odor that was not appealing and everything had an air dirtiness. Fortunately we sat outside and it was a bit better. We found the menu to be a bit limited and a bit on the pricey side for what they are serving. They don't have nightly specials. We ordered a bottle of wine from what seemed to be a very limited selection only to find out that what we wanted wasn't available. The waiter pick something which he said was a comparable wine. The food was the highlight of the night. Every ordered was prepared well. We had the grilled octopus. Was excellent. Again small portion for what we paid. On the other hand the main entrees we prepared well and of good portions. Unfortunately, The combination ambiance, appearance and food makes this place a one time experience for me.
We've been here many times. The pasta is fresh, main dishes are fabulous, apps modern and delicious. They never have the wine we want, but they always have a good substitute. Their staff could use more training, but the owners service has probably spoiled us over the past few years. This is a fantastic restaurant!
