I've eaten at the downtown location several times and have never had a bad meal there. I met a couple of friends for dinner at the UES location last weekend, and the execution of the dishes was not consistent. Those who ate chicken were very happy. Those of us eating veggies had small complaints. For instance, the cauliflower in my dish was undercooked enough for me to notice it. That said, the service was good, and the meal was very reasonably priced. I would go there again if I were in the neighborhood.
Went there couple days back. Finally the place is got back it's standard when they first open. Seems like it's a change of management . If it was they have made the right decision . The service was very impressive table manners were outstanding. Clean and food was outstanding . It reminded me of the old brick lane on 6th st downtown. Keep it up folks nice to have the old brick lane back

The food was not nearly as good compared to earlier visits. It appeared hastily prepared and was not at all memorable, though the ingredients were of good quality. The meal was lacking in texture and subtlety of flavor.
Service was unacceptably poor. Several times I needed to repeat simple requests that had been overlooked by the wait staff.
Based upon the service and food quality I received this time, I no longer believe Brick Lane is a good value. This is a pity, as during earlier visits the food was very good indeed.
We went to celebrate two birthdays. The staff, but Gaurang in particular, were amazing in their attention to our dining experience. The food was amazing, the service even more so, and all of it made for one of the most memorable dining experiences of my life, no kidding.
We discovered this restaurant while looking for a place to eat at the last minute on New Years Eve. We wanted something in the neighborhood with vegetarian selections. Everything we wanted out here and we were pleased with the food and the ambiance. We certainly intend to return.
We are familiar with the downtown site, but had not noticed it in our neighborhood. We brought 2 good friends who are also pro-Indian foodies, and we sat in the back; which was pleasantly quieter, but not as interesting as the front.
The food was great, over a number of Indian sub-categories from Goan, to Punjabi, to Karalan. We will go again, and heartily recommend it.
Brick Lane's decor and food is completely different from traditional fine Indian restaurants. It is less formal yet overall a far better experience. Wonderful attentive service, fantastic dishes with lots of vegan and vegetarian options, and a lively atmosphere that is not too loud (especially if you have an early dinner).
It took me how long to finally find the best curry in town. Being British, I am extra fussy...and this place did not disappoint. We tried the shrimp appetizer, the ingredients were so fresh and tasty. Finally chicken tikka masala made the way it should be....pricless. We know where we are ordering from and taking our friends here too. Love it..glad this place is in out neighbour.
Given that this is a chain, I hesitated. But several Open Table reviews said it's excellent so I tried it. Awful! Lunch buffet tasteless bland and kept for ages on the steam table. I should have known: there was no one else there at 12:30 on a Friday. Never again.
Normally I we avoid restaurant chains, but took a chance on this one. It really paid off. Great and quiet atmosphere (not always the case on Manhattan). The food was excellent and the service was great. We were tempted to go for their ultra-hot Phaal, but decided against it. Maybe next time.
The spice level and the consistency of the food was great. We really liked this place.
This place would be perfection if they would just get their act together in terms of service. Drinks take forever to be made. Waiters are slow to appear and then disappear completely. Then they rush you to get out. That said, the curries are great and the room is attractive. Maybe take-out is the best option.
Brick Lane Curry House delivers as advertised a quality British Indian dining experience. The food was high quality, prepared in an authentic manner and served in a professional and polite manner. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and recommend it without hesitation to readers.
Considering the British Empire's long influence on India, it is no surprise that British style curries are no less authentic than the offerings of a classic Indian restaurant. Tandoori offerings were moist and flavorful, and the wide range of curry styles -- nine or more at last count, led to endess flavor possibilities. This location of the chain has lovely wood panelling and a helpful staff
This is one of those rare times when the food was so bad that we had to leave almost all of it in the table , service was shotty , and the staff is rude , the waiter was nice but another guy who looked like their manger ( with an loud shirt and even louder tie) was not polite at all and was even scolding his staff in front of all the guests right in the middle of the dining room , very unprofessional .
The food :
Was prepared by someone who has never had good Indian food ..or may be even basic Indian food They have kind of a same pre cooked base which tasted rather raw and old , which they probably heated and put stuff in and brought out .. Original BLCH used to be way better at least 5 yrs ago
Bottom line absolute failure and poor taste
Was fantastic food and a great choice. The portions are huge and the onion bhaji for starters you could quite easily share between two or order something different and mix and match.
Our service wasn't great. The waiter didn't seem too bothered about us and the was an obvious mix up in the kitchen as they brought the mains out whilst we were finishing our appetisers!
But overall a great restaurant and fab food.
I might be slightly bias because I've developed an addiction to their food, but this is one of the best Indian restaurants I've enjoyed.
I usually go with my fiance on Friday nights and usually have more than enough food when we split 2 apps and 2 mains (which thankfully turns into awesome Saturday leftovers).
Personal favorites: Lassuni Gobi - crispy cauliflower florets tossed in a tomato and garlic sauce.,
Samosa - crispy pastry, stuffed with spiced potatoes and peas or minced lamb. - * GO WITH THE LAMB!*
Malai Kofta vegetable and cheese dumplings in a nutty tomato curry
And the veggie Tikka Masala.
I have to stress that at most restaurants trying something new comes with a certain degree of risk, here, everything is good.
