Brick + Mortar - Waldo
Didn’t know what to expect but we we very pleasantly surprised by the quality of food and service we received. Can’t wait to try it again!!
The food and atmosphere was great and the food selection has something for everyone. A little disappointed that the table we were sat at was dirty and we had to ask for it to be cleaned since no one seemed to notice it. Also had to ask for new water glass since that too was not clean since it still had lipstick from the prior patron. Hopefully staff will pay more attention to detail in the future since the remodel and new bar is great for Waldo.
Has a good vibe and nice selection of food. Hostess was too busy talking to her friends to seat us and waiter was not super attentive. Food was presented nicely but seemed okay as far as flavor. Going to try again in a few months BC feel it has potential.
Great server. Wish the food had a little more flavor.
Lots of different and interesting options for food and drinks. Wish there would have been more vegetarian options. The spinach and artichoke dip was yummy. All the carnivores in my group were very happy with their chicken, filet, and tuna poke.
Tried the street corn for the 1st time. Excellent! Nice contrast with the sriracha sauce. Have been on several occasions and had their soup of the day before, very good.
Had what must be a signature dish because it's always on the menu; the French onion soup. Good gruyere but the soup was far too salty.
Attentive service. Great looking food, brought out in a timely fashion. I recommend the short rib with farro!
Scallops we’re clearly halved, instead of full. Chicken sandwich was super basic. Food is over priced for what it is. Service was great!
Food was awesome! So glad to have this restaurant in waldo!
We ordered round of shots and were a little surprised they were $12 a piece...
Lunch time is quiet. Dinner it's busy so much louder and difficult to talk. But with that in mind I would still recommend
The only thing worse than the food, was the service. The brussels sprouts were delivered in a soup of balsamic...they were well roasted but you couldn't taste anything but overwhelming balsamic. I tried letting it run off but no one had that much time. The salmon was served skin on with soggy skin and again, had no flavor. We had to beg repeatedly for someone to take our order, bring our drinks, deliver water and deliver food. In their defense, they just launched $1 burger night, but it was only 6:00 and wasn't even fully yet. Not going to chance going back for a second round.
Relaxed atmosphere and nice vibe. Interesting and diverse menu. All four of us enjoyed our food. Both the charcuterie and cheese board were excellent. The other items, cheeseburger, tempura shrimp tacos and tuna were good as well. Our server (so sorry I do not remember the young man's name) was outstanding...he was friendly, information, & very knowledgeable about the menu. We will go back to try other items.
Only comment would be the noise level. If you like someplace quiet, this would probably not be a good choice!
Definitely some kinks to work out. We went for $1 burger night and ended up spending over 2 hours at the restaurant due to extremely slow service. Hopefully they are able to add staff and make their level of service match the price point of their dinner menu.
Food and drink were very good. Music was very loud but we think they turned it down a bit. Also was quite warm inside but we think there was A/C issues earlier in the day.
Bad service and food was not good
Hard to talk to people at the table when music is to loud
They have done a great job on the look. It is cool looking on the inside but it was really hot. My sister had been before and said it was hot then too. The food was good and our waiter was good. He got a little impatient with us but we did take a while to order. I would go back and try it again. I just think they really need to get the temperature under control. We all really liked our food.
Food and service were good. Music came on way too early and was so loud we left to go somewhere else where it could actually talk with people sitting next to us.
First the noise- VERY loud and it was a Tuesday night for dinner. It was half full- just bad acoustics I guess. BUT, the food is phenomenal... chicken and waffles are amazing, the street tacos very very good, fried chicken sandwich was good. Servers all friendly and interactive. We would go back for the food!
We realize this restaurant only opened a few weeks ago, but WOW, they've got a LONG way to go! Walking into a fun and new hip restaurant to be greeted by a hostess wearing work out shorts (that she really should have not been wearing to begin with) and a ripped up t-shirt is not welcoming. I specifically requested through the reservation that we wanted to sit at a table and not "high top". We were immediately seated to a large community table (for 8) and when I asked if we could sit at one of the six available tables for 4, you would have thought that I completely ruined her evening. When we were seated, it took 20 minutes to receive water (thankfully we were with friends and visiting) and then another 10 minutes to place our drink order. Very disappointing that the restaurant was completely out of both offerings of Sauv Blanc on a Saturday night @ 7:30p. The Mule was also served in an iced tea glass. We ordered a flatbread for an appetizer (which was really a good 'ole fashioned pizza, but probably the best part of our experience!) and we each ordered a different entree including a burger, chicken sandwich, gnocchi and hanger steak. Alas, dinner arrived 45 minutes later (the waiter did explain to us the kitchen was backed up although the restaurant was not full). The side of brusell sprouts were cold, along with the hanger steak and fries. The waiter insisted on sending the hanger steak back to the kitchen. Once it was re-served, it was so rare that I don't know anyone who would eat it. The gnocchi was hot with good flavor, both the burger and chicken sandwich lacked any sort of flavor. With the tab arriving at $90 per couple, this experience was not worth the price tag! We did not receive any discounts for the awful food or poor service. Love the laid back scene of Waldo and appreciate great food, but Brick+Mortar completely missed it!
We had a party of 6, 2 meals did not arrive, 1 did not arrive after some had finished (even though we waited until our food was cold). No one apologized, we never saw a manager. All of our beverages were empty without any attention to asking if we would like another. Our server had not even tried any of the specialty cocktails. My husband asked for no bun and they put it on a bun “to hold it together”, he is not celiac, but they never even asked if it was an allergy. We should have had a red flag when we walked in a 7pm on a Saturday and it was 1/2 full. Cute decor, casual and trendy.
Took a very long time to get any service and a band started at the front of the restaurant and was so incredibly loud we could no longer have a conversation, so we decided to leave.
My to my surprise, the food was outstanding and the waitstaff was friendly and attentive. I wouldn't have thought so when we first walked in -- the ambiance left a little to be desired, and it was quite noisy -- but it depends what you're looking for. We decided to overlook the noise and overall feel of being in a soulless warehouse with big windows; and concentrate on what we were eating, after all that's why we came -- and why we'll go back, again and again. Try it! The food and folks wouldn't be out of place in a 3 star restaurant.
I am not sure Brick + Mortar has figured out who they want to be. The website and menu looks like a nice, more upscale restaurant with and interesting menu. However, our experience was much different. The place feels like a sports bar (WWF on the big screen), and was very noisy. Some of the food was tasty but on the whole very average and not what we were expecting.
This place is doomed. Too bad.
Terrible service, overpriced food, not equipped to handle food allergies, noisy and full of gnats. Too bad for a new restaurant.
Terrible ambiance. Over priced food and ok portions. The pasta dish Chittara I ordered was too salty for $16.00? Urban table has the same type of dish Cacio E Pepe done much better. I don't see this place lasting very long dead on Friday night at 7:00pm in Waldo? Waldo Pizza and The Well on either side of this place was packed even on a holiday weekend this place outside of the loud music playing all you would hear is just be crickets chirping!
I would love to share my experience, BUT I didn’t have an experience because OpenTable failed to notify me that the restaurant was closed on the 4th of July even though my reservation was accepted AND I received several reminders about my upcoming reservation. Poor communication and very disappointed potential customers. Was this OpenTable’s fault or Brick + Mortar?
Great food and service.
Very disappointing that they do not have brewed iced tea - just fountain pre-mix.
Got to try the Double Double!!!
You could definitely tell they were extremely under staffed but the best burger in KC!!
went here after open 2 weeks. overall good experience - nice beer list and good selection of craft cocktails. Serving staff could have been more knowledgable about the food and beverage options. Ordered 2 appetizers including the lamb meatballs. Both were good, but fairly big so they left no room for entrees. Like the vibe/ambiance with the mix of high and low tables and decor. They may need some shades for the west windows as it was hot on a sunny 93 degree day. Overall good - hope they tighten up server knowledge/expertise would help the service experience match the decor and menu.
The food was pretty good and the drinks were strong (how I like them).
Great happy hour, good cocktails, fun atmosphere, much better than average food menu
Expensive menu items for what you got. Service not so prompt although they were nice
This restaurant has great potential, but still needs some work as it just opened recently. The menu is interesting, however, the food was not well executed.
Food was outstanding! Service was unorganized and slow, but our waiter and the owner worked hard to make up for the service. Will definitely try again.
Brick + Mortar has only opened recently, so I'm writing this with a caveat. All restaurants need to go through a "learning curve" for a few months before they can get their groove down. That being said, I have high hopes for this place. The atmosphere is a great fit for the area. It's relaxed without being underwhelming, but nice enough, I'd recommend having a casual date. Food wise, the entire table was extremely happy. The portions are perfect, the price is very reasonable, and presentation was welcoming. I had the grilled fish tacos, and I think they may have been some of the best I ever had. It cam with 3 soft shell tacos, with the filling falling out there was so much. I would definitely order this again! Our only complaint would be the staff organization. Everyone was very friendly, however, appeared to have no organization. It seemed like everyone was running around different tables to help everyone else, which sounds good. However, it made things fall apart. Because everyone was everywhere, I think they couldn't keep track of who was helped, so we waited awhile before we got help - meaning missed drink purchases and forgotten side items, like parmesan and peppers. If they can resolve this issue, this place has great potential! Again, it's new, so I chalk it up to that, and will definitely be back again!
Fun new place with great cocktails. Good move, Waldo!!
