Fantastic meal in a
Great food and service as usual. Outstanding menu.
We were looking forward to this meal, but the food was subpar. Everything was over spiced! We are used to eating many different cuisines and we love most flavors but this seemed like all spices were very heavy handed. The cavatelli tasted like smoked paprika had been poured all over it, the steak au poivre was very fatty and the gnocchi had a very off putting sauce. We will not be going back.
Birthday... and they made it feel special.
Love Brenner Pass. Big bites, small bites. Tasty food and bev. You should go.
As usual everything was fantastic. From drinks to desert attention to detail was everywhere. New item for this visit was their hamburger, which was one of the best I’ve ever had!
The food was underwhelming for the price. There was hardly any lobster in the lobster risotto. The cocktails were on point, and service was the best, but the room was SO LOUD that it was hard to hear our server or each other. I would recommend Brenner Pass as a gathering place for drinks but not for dinner.
We ordered the fondue and it was wholly disappointing. It came out cold, the sterno ran out twice and so it didn't stay melted, and it had no flavor. Furthermore, the items included with it were bland in their own right. There is only so much bread and potatoes a person can eat, especially for $36.
The food, as always, was great! There are inventive cocktails, the house baked bread is good, entrees were excellent, and dessert was worth every calorie!! Attentive service, without being too intrusive, and the ambience - a nice, bright, open space - is also excellent - not too loud in spite of a full house of other diners.
I love Brenner Pass in the summer. It is the time when their commitment to local, seasonal foods really shines. All year, they have a wonderful bar program, and excellent wine list, and food that stays true to their alpine theme. The service is also always great, from the hosts to servers to bartenders. But in the summer, the food at Brenner Pass tastes like Richmond summer, fresh and warm and green, just like a good oyster tastes like the water it came from.
Food was excellent. Because of my Swiss heritage I especially enjoyed trying the Appenzeller cheese with honey, as an appetizer. Lobster risotto was fantastic! Very tasty. Overall, the food was excellent. Only downside for us, was the noise. There is one big seating area, it was loud, and acoustics made it hard to hear.
That pistachio chocolate cake...I was in heaven eating it and am still somewhere on cloud nine 2 days later!
The food was delicious and perfectly portioned. Skimpy pour on the wine by the glass disappointed.
This is my all time favorite dining spot in RVA. Everything on the menu is wonderful, great staff, and easy parking.
The cheese and meat variety was excellent and the staff was knowledgable. The wines were a bit pricey but all food, from the Steak au Poivre to the chocolate cake was too notch. For an anniversary dinner, we found it a tad noisy, but we were able to converse just fine.
Our waiter was friendly, informative and attentive. We went with the fondue and I highly recommend it. The craft beer selection was solid and the Tiramisu was outstanding!
We will be back.
Our 2nd time here. The first time was a much better experience.
We were seated at a table between the bar and the window seating. So surrounded by other customers and conversations. Very loud!
The hostess and our server were both great, though it was very difficult to hear the server describe any of the specials or entrees.
The Summer Potage was more cream than potage. And the green beans in it were undercooked. I liked the Dorade Carpaccio special. And my Pork belly entree was just OK. Others in our group had the Arctic Char entree, the Cavatelli, and the gnocchi. All said their appetizers & entrees were acceptable, but no one was wowed.
I wish the wine list was a little more interesting in the lower price range. You have to go up to the $100 range to get a decent bottle. We had the ROVELLOTTI, GHEMME “CHIOSO DEI POMI, which at $95 was fine. But 2 bottles at 95 each definitely puts a dent in ones wallet.
Food was great. Very tasty. Grant, our server, was exceptional. Not a place for an intimate dinner . Noise level very high, but the delicious cuisine was worth the inconvenience. A little pricey. Wine price list on the high side.
Came for our anniversary and were treated exceptionally! Waitress was well versed on the menu and offered great suggestions. Was our first time dining here and we will definitely be returning.
All the dishes we had were excellent both in terms of preparation and complexity of composition. Server was attentive without being intrusive and well-informed about everything on the menu including all of the various cheeses and meats for cheese/charcuterie plate. The interior of the restaurant is quite nice, however, depending upon who is there it can be quite loud (especially near the bar).
We had a lovely meal with friends at Brenner Pass on a Saturday night. The drinks, wine, service and setting were outstanding. The only reason it did not get 5 stars is because two folks in our party had the Veal Milanese and found it to be quite bland. The rest of us were extremely pleased with our meals! The summer potage was the very essence of Richmond summer and is highlightly recommended, as is the tuna carpaccio, the arctic char, and the gnocchi. Our disappointment with one dish will definitely not keep us away from this treasure!
Food and drink were wonderful and delicious. Our server was exceptional.
The food was great and so was the service. Everyone was friendly. My only complaint was that I couldn't hear the person next to me and we were in the corner.
We had a large party of 8 and were very well taken care of. All of our meals were excellent and we will definitely be back!
We tried to go here without a reservation six months ago. Learned our lesson, and it was absolutely worth the wait. Everything was fantastic!
This place is awesome! The food is incredible! We reserved bar seating and our two nicely set places were awaiting our arrival with a "Reserved" sign. Our bartender/server (Rachel?) was engaging, knowledgeable and sweet. The cocktails were inspired. The food was outstanding. The suggested wine pairings were spot on. When we return to Richmond for an even longer weekend (and we will), we will definitely return.
We had an amazing family meal to celebrate my work promotion. We had two small kids and grandparents and everyone had a great time. Food was unique and delicious.
Such an amazing meal! My family went to Brenner Pass from Fredericksburg, VA tonight and I couldn’t be happier. Had the steak tartar and sausage for appetizers and our entrees were delicious. I would - and do - go back often. Couldn’t love it more!
Way to noisy. Had to tell to speak with people at my table.
Not a bad place but was just looking for more of "French" meal.
Food was fine just didn't wow us...
Enjoyed sharing the cheese and meat board. Beef tartare was delicious!
Fun atmosphere, great menu and scrumptious food! Thoroughly recommend Brenner Pass.
Chef driven hot spot with warm service and innovative food and cocktails.
Unfortunately my second experience at this restaurant was not as great as the first. Both times the service was beyond lacking. Ate dinner on a Saturday night and we were seated right away but it took a good 20 minutes to receive our cocktails. Another 45 minutes to get our small plates and then main entrees followed quickly after that. 2 of the small plates I asked for were frustratingly sold out, our reservations were for 7:30pm which is not late. My fish was completely overcooked. My husband had the porkbelly which he did not like at all. I did find the restaurant noisy but was not bothered as so many other reviewers have been. I really like the concept of Brenner Pass but their execution leaves quite a lot to be desired.
Very nice atmosphere, sophisticated. Server was excellent and we enjoyed all of the things that we tried. We went with small plates and dessert. The oysters were particularly good, as well as the fried zucchini blossoms. The bill was a bit higher than I might have expected for a similar high end meal in Richmond, which is why I gave it four stars for value, but everything was excellent and we will probably go again when we want to treat ourselves. The chef has the ability to put things that don't sound like the will mesh together perfectly. We've been to one or two other places in Richmond who can't pull that off well.
Amazing food and an excellent waitress. It took a little bit for the host/hostess to notice that we had arrived for our reservation and that felt a bit awkward. When we first sat down it was rather loud with an energetic table very close to us. They were having a great time however we could not hear each other speak across a two-person table. We asked our waitress if we could move and she didn’t seem bothered at all by the request. Our waitress was the perfect amount of attentive. We ordered a few cocktails, appetizers, main dishes, desserts ... the works! Every course excellent. We’ll be back for another special occasion for sure.
Our experience was very exceptional. We were pleasantly surprised with champagne because of our anniversary
A lovely venue on a Monday evening for a quiet birthday celebration. We started with a beer and cocktail. We shared the beef tartare appetizer. It was delicious. The lamb neck and crab risotto were equally good. We each had a glass of wine from the interesting wine list.
Too loud! Great food choices! Our young male server with mole was adorable and really steered us in a great directions according to our taste. He also did not rush us but was fantastic!
Brenner Pass is my favorite restaurant in Richmond. We love the fondue and go there specifically for the fondue. It's rich, cheesy and accompanied by interesting items to dip in the cheese. The entrees and appetizers are all appealing. We had the crab risotto which was delicious and perfectly cooked. We also had the pork sausage appetizer which was yummy and bathed in a white wine and butter sauce. The fennel gratin was cheesy and fresh. The squash blossoms were outstanding. We loved everything we had.
