Pre/post Theatre
Buzzy, upbeat hotel brasserie located in the oh so pretty Covent Garden, the heart of London's theatreland. The interior is predictably theatrical therefore, but not overpoweringly so. The traditional design of the main Drawing Room has been lightened up with quirky furniture and bright groovy coloured soft furnishings whilst in the Brasserie itself you could act out your very own thriller or WWII resistance drama. This is a fab place to take just about anyone - teenage sister, maiden aunt, overseas visitors or a business contact. Go there for a first date if you want to set the right scene but don't want to look as though you're trying too hard. What's Cooking? Rock oysters, vine tomato and chilli salsa, roasted quail with puy lentils, fig and anchovies, Dover sole with warm potato and grain mustard salad and delicious Pear and apple crumble with ginger and vanilla ice cream to finish!

Very good food and service in a lovely setting. Near major theatres. This is my third ir fourth time there. The daily special is a bargain. Nice bar as well. Coffee needs improvement.

I’m being critical because I love the Firmdale hotel group and they rarely make any mistakes. A pre-theatre meal was just ok, really. Friendly servers but they asked us when we needed to leave for our show (7:15) and only brought our pudding at 7:15. Wine only came out with the food (and not quite cold enough for white), so late we’d forgotten we’d ordered a drink. Food was fine but really tiny portions (in comparison to other group restaurants). It’s just not quite up to the standard of Ham Yard or Charlotte Street.

A pre Theatre set menu dinner. Greeting lovely, warm and friendly. Our drinks order was taken quickly but then it all went downhill. No drinks arrived, no service forthcoming. Had to call a waiter over to get drinks ordered again. Had to ask on numerous occasions where our food was as we were going to a performance and needed to be fairly prompt. Had nearly finished the wine before starters arrived, only just made it to performance in time. They did recognise the service was non existent and didn't charge the service fee and discounted one of the side dishes. Lovely restaurant, nice atmosphere and very enjoyable, tasty and well presented food, but poor service really lets it down. What a shame.

Lovely place to have a bite to eat before theatre or a film screening. Really good choice of menu (including vegetarian options) and delicious food.
Lovely atmosphere and friendly service.

The afternoon tea was tasty and the room decor is nice. My complaint is the value. Good deal for afternoon tea but they charge extra for tea? Tea should be included in the price.

Great location especially for an autumn dinner. They noted on arrival our note that we were in a hurry as a performance to make but service was disappointedly slow from time to take order and food to arrive which was 45mins We ordered dessert but had to leave before they arrived. But they did compensate us for it and the food we did eat was lovely.

We were with you on Tuesday of this week for an anniversary and your staff were truly excellent. They were particularly attentive, and we had some very good conversations with them during the evening. This was particularly so for the Portuguese young man who saw us in but also the young man from Hong Kong who looked after us at the table.
The food was excellent as we have come to expect.
Thank you to all.

My first visit with a group of friends. We all thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were impressed with the London restaurant festival menu. This represented very good value for money with a good choice of dishes. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. We shall certainly return.

Lovely venue and waitress very pleasant. Festival menu was disappointing. The chicken was very dry and real shame as token jus was delicious. A glass of Pinot Grigio wine at £10.25 each plus a coffee and service atomatically added at 12.5% meant it was nearly £53 a head for an average meal.

Ambience and service good, easy access to theatres and provides quiet haven away from crowds. All our food was delicious although portions could have been more generous? We have enjoyed afternoon tea here before which we felt was excellent value.

We went to Brasserie Max before going to the Donmar Warehouse and had a really lovely pre-theatre meal. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. They knew we were time limited, but never let us feel rushed. Just a great evening, and the glass of wine included with the meal was a real bonus.

I recently remembered Brasserie Max not having been there for some time. It is in an excellent location and has a very good set menu at lunchtime. The staff are attentive without being obtrusive. One issue is that when they ask if you want still or sparkling water they automatically bring bottled Evian @ £5.75 a bottle rather than offering tap water as an option (which they do serve). This was the second time I have eaten there in three weeks. The set menu starter of (I think trout) with creme fraiche was excellent. The chicken escalope was very tasty but sadly overdone and rather cool. The hazelnut and chocolate mousse was very sweet and not to MY personal taste but I am sure will suit many. I had to remind the server that a glass of wine was included in our booking so they had to "go and check". Having said that still a cut above many other set menus and the surroundings are stylish and comfortable . Will I go back again? Yes I certainly will.

Initial impression was great, very welcoming but from then on everything went down hill. The service was no existent. We had to keep stopping staff as they went by but then they would forget what we had asked. The cocktail that came with the set menu was awful according to my friends.

An additional portion of chips ordered never arrived. We complained and whilst the apology was genuine all that was offered was to remove the chip from our bill and waive the service charge which we would never have paid anyway.

Will not be going back.

I had a lovely Sunday evening dining at MAX Brasserie in Covent Garden with a friend. I was very pleasantly surprised by the exterior and interior of this lovely brasserie. Very sophisticated but not over the top and a perfect place to dine on a date or with friends. The service was also spot on and very friendly. I had the very good value set menu which was a good portion size and the chocolate mousse dessert was amazing!!!

What a wonderful find!
Brasserie Max is a delightful restaurant offering great value for money, a lovely atmosphere in which to meet friends or lovers and a gentle level of service - helpful without being overpowering. We are friends who enjoy meeting over a nice meal - we like to talk and to hear each other: B.Max wins a gold star for this.
Our visit to Brasserie Max was a first for us and we found a menu with a good selection - a healthy portion of salmon for me (both starter and main) yes I enjoy my fish, and for pud I had a lovely chocolate mousse. One of the best, 'value for money' menus I've eaten in London for years.
The restaurant itself has been well designed with attractive furnishings and a very interesting bar: it forms part of a hotel but don't let that deter you: it really is not old world hotel.
Will we return? Most definitely. Will I recommend B Max to friends? I already have.

I thought excellent. A good choice of food and staff were helpful in modifying dishes if you didn’t like one of the ingredients. (I didn’t want clams with the cod so they substituted mushrooms). Great wine list as well. The tables are well spaced so you don’t feel that you’re in someone else’s conversation. The staff were great. They never bothered you but were always available when required. It’s not cheap but is good value

Our reservation was pre-theatre. On arrival the staff were extremely welcoming and showed us to our table straight away which was by the window looking in to Monmouth Street. The restaurant is terribly pretty and furnished beautifully. Our meal was delicious we both had a starter and a main. The service was excellent and attentive. Without hesitation we would definitely return.

Love this place-went there for pre theatre meal. Have been here once before and was as impressed-as I was this time. I have a gluten free diet-staff were aware of this from my booking and provided GF bread without being asked. The waiting staff make this place-they are unobtrusive yet attentive. I will definitely be back!

We have visited this venue with friends a number of times and have never been disappointed. It has style, comfort and a great ambience. We love the bar for a pre-lunch drink and the set menu is good value. It's an easy stroll from Covent Garden which makes it a great day out.
