Lacked attention to detail.
Dirty plates left on the table, no up selling on beverages or food. Just robotic service , Plus it was empty , didn’t make sense

New Year's Eve dinner with several friends ... party of six. Restaurant was under--staffed. Our waiter did his best, but was overworked. Too many tables relied on his service. The food was almost uniformly awful -- except for the bread, which was, as usual, from Pain D'Avignon and is always spectacular. Bread, butter, and wine would have been a fine dinner. The flatbread with smoked salmon was fine as well. My entree was not hot and suffered for it -- liver and onions in a cooling gelatinous brown sauce with lukewarm pommes puree. Ugh. Another in our party had the chicken paillard, which was tasteless. She left most of it, which the clearer noted and appropriately "took it off the bill." My companion had the skate wing ... which had no flavor and was served dry, without a sauce. He noted that it tasted like fried fillet of sole but without the option of tartar sauce. Two others had the steak frites, which they did eat. The final member of the party had trout and made no complaint, but she never complains about anything. The deserts were terrible. The "profiteroles" were enormous hunks of ice-cream piled onto a cold split creampuff. The chocolate sauce was disappointing, tasting rather like Hershey's syrup. I opted for the bananas Foster, which were served in a cold crepe -- made colder by ice cream. The bananas were uncooked ... . The whole thing was rather like a banana split in a cold crepe with undistinguished caramel sauce. NOT "Bananas Foster" at all. Coffee was fine.
Next time I'll sit at the bar, have a drink, and order bread and butter.

Our New Years dinner, and it was fabulous in every sense. The staff especially our waiter was so attentive and welcoming, food was fabulous, no rush, warm and comfortable. I have already recommended it to several of our friends. We will be back!

We have been going to Brasserie Jo for years and always enjoy our meals, whether at the bar or in the dining room. I love the decor, ambiance, and menu. The service is friendly and good. An unpretentious fine dining experience.

We went in a group. We had a great time having French cuisine, pretty new to most of us. Not sure how authentic it was, but the food was super awesome. For appetisers, we ordered clam chowder which was quite good. The portion was overwhelming and we had to literally share it between two. In the mains, we ordered grilled salmon with spinach and creamy cauliflower which was quite good and nicely done. Another person ordered a tuna sandwich which was okay too.
A friend who was vegetarian had a hard time finding a dish for himself as they had very limited choice for non meat eaters. Though the waiter was kind enough to get him a customised crepe with a lot of cheese and sautéed veggies.
For deserts, we ordered chocolate mousse with milk and dark chocolate shavings(comes in a big portion again) and bread pudding. Both were quite nice.

We met friends here and all four of us had excellent food and and drinks. I had the pork chop which was cooked perfectly and had a delicious sauce. The service was really friendly and professional. The restaurant was quiet enough that it was easy for us to hear each other across the table. I think you will really enjoy Brasserie JO.

Filled with pre-theatre patrons, this lively bistro welcomes you with professional friendly front of house personnel and a wait staff that has been there for years - a very good sign. Begin your evening or lunch with a tart flambé with a crunchy crust and a great mix of cheese onions and herbs. Fish is a specialty here and salmon with pepper glaze, arctic char or the amazing scallops will more than suffice for dinner. Great service, creative food and sparkling ambiance make this one of our favorite spots in Boston

Had a bad night. Strip steak inedible and potato casserole not cooked thru. They offered replacement but son did not want to wait for a new dish. They did not charge us When I told waiter I wanted mussels -which are fabulous- dairy free because I had an allergy he told me it wouldn’t taste as good. Of course I know that but I can’t eat it with dairy. Mussels were good. Fries were not hot. Think place has slipped a bit over years. Not sure I would head back.

Annual pre concert brunch was not as pleasant this year as in years past. Waiters could not time food, ie main course arrived on top of first course soup. Irritating. Food was ok for a diner, not a double digit city restaurant.

We were not rushed as compared to previous years the place was half full at best. Hint to management: fire the waitstaff and get someone supervising the kitchen.

Drinks were ok but nothing special.u

The definition of an idiot is someone who keeps doing the same thing over and over and expects a different result. I have been to Brasserie Jo many times because I LOVE the blueberry pancakes at brunch, and like the atmosphere and menu. However, the service has always been simply awful, and this past Sunday was the worst ever. It took one hour and 15 minutes before we were served our food. Our waiter was indifferent and unapologetic, and I think the only reason we were served was because the manager stepped in to help serve. Three tables around us of people who had come after we did were nearly done eating before we were served. I am all done with the blueberry pancakes, I think - my husband will never return!

My husband and I ate here last night-we arrived 1/2 earlier than our 6:45 reservation and was told to come back in 15 min.- although we could see empty tables. Once we were seated we ordered wine, and 2 starters. We were seated at 6:30 and got our starters at 7:30!! Which was finally served by the maitre de. We had to ask for water- it took a long time after the starters for our meals to be served. Then I received my dinner, Coq au Vin- it was a dark gravy, salty- I sent it back, couldn't eat it- the waiter came back and said he talked to the chef, and the chef admitted maybe he reduced it to much on a high heat and the salt flavor came out- they did not charge for my dinner, which was fair-- BUTwe ate there 1 week before, as a guest of someone, and had a nice experience. At that dinner it was at 5:45 and a party of 4. So maybe it's the time of your reservation and the number in your party- since we saw our waiter paying attention to tables that were larger parties.

The steak frites I had one evening was tough, overcooked and very disappointing. But the eggs benedict for brunch a few days later were very good although the hollandaise needed and extra squirt of lemon juice. My friends had the eggs benedict with smoked salmon and were very pleased.
At lunch the clam chowder was not New England. It had a lot of celery and potatoes, but tasted very good and worth a repeat. It was a large portion. The Croque Monsieur was delicious. The salad was disappointing because of the sugar in the dressing which overwhelmed the lettuce instead of complimenting it. The French fry serving would be sufficient for two if not three people. The bloody Mary was good and worth a taste

we went pre Boston pops, since its within walking distance to the theatre. the food was really delicious, good sized portions, service excellent, we wished we could sit longer as we saw great desserts going by so we went back after the pops and sat near the bar for late night desserts which were outstanding and very large! Will definitely go back again, the work staff was so nice and friendly also!

The food here is good, I wouldn't say spectacular, but it's a great location. The manager was very accommodating, allowing me to order a croque monsieur for my daughter at dinner, even though it's only on the lunch menu (it is an excellent croque monsieur). The service was very slow and not very attentive; I'm not sure if it's because I was there with a 7 year old, or we were splitting everything so the tip wouldn't be as high, but our waiter took quite a long time to initially come to our table and never checked in with us after our food came. I'll probably go back, but it won't be at the top of my list.

My dinner experience was a huge disappointment last night. I arrived a half hour early for my 5:30 reservation & was told I couldn’t be seated in spite of the fact that there were people dining already & many empty tables. The service was deplorable & the food mediocre. My calves’ liver was is a soupy sauce & the mashed potatoes were cold. Won’t go back here ever again.

Enjoyed a lovely Pre Boston Pops lunch at Brasserie Jo. Food was very good but service was slow. We waited awhile to place our order and our water was never refilled. In all fairness, the waitress apologized about the wait and didn't charge for our drinks. I would go back for sure and recommend to friends as well.

We LOVE Brasserie Jo! Our first date 20 years ago was there, and we have been going ever since. The food is consistently good, and their Chocolate Mousse is like no other mousse in the City. If you like French Bistro, and other classics, choose this place. It is convenient to the theaters.

Our meal was served to us within 15 minutes of being seated. We felt extraordinarily rushed. Maybe because we didn’t order cocktails or appetizers, but we hardly had a moment to even enjoy their bread and carrot sticks! The noise level was deafening and we were anxious to leave because we couldn’t talk with each other without yelling. If you want a relaxing dinner avoid weekends.
Why can’t restaurants install noise reduction in their dining rooms so guests can actually carry on a conversation? We normally enjoy Brasserie Jo, but this last dining experience has put us off.

The perfect spot for dinner prior to the Holiday Pops! Delicious drinks (went retro with a Brandy Alexander). Wonderful warm, crusty bread and marinated carrot sticks are wonderful starter snacks. Table had filet mignon (cut with a fork tender), double pork chops, and steak frites - all delectable. Desserts were the incredible profiteroles (a must try) and decadent chocolate mousse (each shared). Coffee and cappuccinos finished it off. 6PM reservation, done at 7:30PM, short walk to Symphony Hall for 8PM performance. A perfect night.
