Service was excellent. Enjoyed all of our meals - steak, mussels, pork belly, escargots and profiteroles.

The onion soup is excellent. The entrées are tasty, but the sides can be lukewarm and dry at times. The desserts are numerous and well done.

We dined at Brasserie Jo while visiting Northeastern University. After a busy day at the school the quiet, yet casual ambiance of Brasserie Jo felt very welcoming. We were seated promptly, immediately were served water and bread, our cocktails were in hand within about 5 minutes. I should mention this was a busy Saturday night. Our waiter was very attentive and helpful. All of our meals were exceptionally delicious. We highly recommend the Brasserie Jo for their exceptional service and food, as well as it's casual yet elegant atmosphere.

The food is excellent with wonderful french dishes a plenty on the menu. But, the table service is poor. Our waiter seemed to have another appointment that he needed to get to; if we did not give him quick responses he would turn on a dime and be gone before we looked up to see who asked "would you like a drink before dinner?".

We found the food to be excellently prepared and of very high quality. Service was impeccable. The restaurant is conveniently located near theaters and the symphony, making it an ideal spot to frequent pre and post theater. A definite return the next time we stay in Boston.

went for easter brunch. it's a buffet which makes it really easy when you have a large party (which we did). surprisingly good food - lot's of options, most were tasty, excellent charcuterie meats, yummy salads, main courses - both breakfast type and dinner type - were plentiful (cheese blintzes with bananas were my favorite!). the carving station was a beef (not exactly sure of the cut) but really well prepared and able to accommodate all kinds of temperature preferences. there's also an omelette station. least exciting, however, was dessert. cupcakes are the main thing here so if you're not a cupcake fan, not a lot to pick from. overall, a very good experience.

Immediately when my friends and I entered this restaurant we were dismissed even though we had a reservation. Although we weren’t he usual costumers being college students we were ignored. Upon being seated we weren’t given menus or given water. We had to go up to the hostess and ask about menus and then be told in a very passive aggressive way that it was a buffet that day. Every time we tried hailing down a waiter we were ignored and treated like less than customers. When it came time for the bill the waiter charged us a 18% gratituity fee that is required for a group of 6+ people even though we were just a group of 5. After being disrespected and almost over charged I will never be coming here again.

If you are looking for a "hip place", this is not for you. The waiters, in their dull uniforms, are set in their ways and from the 'old school' with very slow service. However, the noise level is good and therefore great if you want to converse. Our food was excellent - I ordered the special of the evening, swordfish, which was moist and very flavorful. I would definitely go back, but not if I wanted an evening with more 'fun'.

A great asset is it's location. It is the nicest restaurant close to Symphony Hall. We went to dinner before a show. The food selection is excellent. The wine list is good. The service was OK.

Great food, awesome service. Went there prior to Boston Speakers Series and waiter immediately asked if we were planning to attend 8:00 show. He took extra care to make sure we had nice relaxing dinner, but also had plenty of time to get to theater in time. Steak frites and lemon chicken were incredibly tasty.

We went to Brasserie Jo for "Dine-Out Boston" week. We live just around the corner from there. As usual, it was excellent all around. The "Dine-Out Boston" menu was an excellent representation of French cuisine, including an appetizer, entree, and dessert...all for a very reasonable price.

The only thing wrong was that the crème caramel as stone-hard. Could barely be chopped into.

Table was ready when we arrived. The waiter was outstanding answering our questions and made at least four wonderful suggestions which were all exactly right. The meals were excellent; all enjoyed their dinner.

Brasserie Jo is a place we like to go for excellent food, great ambiance, and classic service.

Brasserie Jo is a truly authentic French restaurant, and its high standards have been maintained for years. I had clams à la Basquaise and then swordfish Provençal-perfect!

We went to dinner after a Boston Gay Men's Chorus concert with my wife and son. It was his birthday. Alex our waiter was very attentive and engaging. We had three different types of meals and a very enjoyable evening. The food was very good as were the desserts.

Have eaten here many times over the years and Brasserie Jo always satisfies. Authentic French comfort food - had a cold day's pre-opera Brunch here. Great crepe with roasted chicken and mushrooms - perfect! The bread and herbed carrots that come as soon as one orders are great too.

We went for Sunday brunch. The food was fine, my companion was not that happy with her meal and did not drink her coffee, which is very strong, but is what some people prefer. Overall, I felt the server was polite, but not very present, and may have had tables in another section of the restaurant. The place did not seem that busy so I was a little disappointed by his general lack of availability and attention. For a $50 brunch (with cocktails) it could have been a better experience.

My group of four met here for Saturday lunch at 12:45 pm Seated quickly. Attentive service. Food came out in reasonable time and was well prepared. I eat here fairly frequently. It's dependable and very conveniently located.

The waiter even asked what our plans were for the evening so we would have time.

We've been going to Brasserie Jo for decades, and we're so happy that this reliably excellent restaurant seems to still be going strong. The restaurant and its menu has changed little over the years, which, in our opinion, is a wonderful thing -- we can be reasonably sure our old favorites will still be available during our visits once or twice a year. At the same time, there are always specials, and on our most recent visit, our server Mateo highly recommended one of those -- a striped sea bass -- which was, indeed, excellent. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and we shared both the sea bass and another special -- monkfish with mushrooms and a mild curry sauce -- as well as several glasses of different kinds of white wine, for which Mateo also provided much appreciated guidance and recommendations. For dessert, Mateo brought us a complimentary order of the restaurant's signature profiteroles, pouring wonderful chocolate sauce over the towers of pastry and ice cream until my husband finally said stop (fortunately before it flooded over the edges of the dish). Brasserie Jo has been our traditional place to celebrate my husband's birthday each year, and we hope to be celebrating it there for many years to come.

This is a reliable standby for going to the BSO or concerts at Jordan Hall. Service is lovely, and good reliably good, if not particularly exciting. Excellent cocktails.

I always enjoy Brasserie Jo's. The menu is fabulous and I love French food. The service is second to none!

Dining Saturday pre-symphony was a disappointment, from the practically non-existent service to the food which was just okay. Not what I had expected from stellar recommendations, thuogh granted, those recs were from a few years back.

Our visit to Brasserie Jo was pleasant but the restaurant could use some fine-tuning. We arrived early and told the front desk we were here but we would get a drink at the bar, which we did. The bartender was very efficient and pleasant, he came over right away when he saw us sit down. He was quite personable and we chatted with him briefly.
When it was time to sit down we went to the host stand. The hosts / hostesses (there seem to be three) were not very friendly and there seemed to be some confusion about where to seat us. When we made the reservation we specified this was a birthday -- no acknowledgment whatsoever of that fact. When it was determined where our table was the hostess marched off, dropped the menus and disappeared. Not very gracious!
A bus person came over right away and brought us water, bread and some butter. The waiter was nowhere to be found. We sat for a good 5 or 10 minutes before we flagged down the bus person and asked where our waiter was. He (Ernie) came over soon that and took a drink order. He was quick but not much of a table watcher (they are few and far between nowadays). There was a minor spill at our table and he was very quick to help clean it up.
Following dinner which was very good we were never offered coffee or dessert, and of course no acknowledgement of the birthday.
I guess maybe my standards may be a bit high these days. When I go to a nice place like Brasserie Jo, which is quite expensive, I hope to find some good manners and people who can at least pretend they are happy I came to their restaurant.

It had been a long time since I had been to Brasserie Jo - 10 years but they had not missed a beat Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the mousse did not disappoint my young luncheon companion.
