Classy French bistro with excellent food, seasoned waiters, quiet ambiance
We have been dining at Jos for more than 20 years. Now they are closing and we are sad. The last day is October 7th. It was perfect for pre theatre and pre symphony.
Great restaurant! Too bad it's closing as is a hidden gem!
Six of us enjoyed a great meal! Our server was excellent, efficient, attentive, pleasant and professional. He helped to make our dining experience special. Also, the boneless duck breast was beautifully done!! Everyone loved their meals.
Our go to for dining prior to concerts at Symphony Hall or Jordan Hall. So sad that it is closing to be “re-imagined”-why, oh why mess with a Boston landmark?!?!?!
Excellent French food and wine in the heart of Boston.
Overall very good. Unfortunately they were out of a couple of our favorites. I did the Salmon, which was very good. I started with the chilled Leek/Potato soup. Very good, but just a bit too thick. Richard had the Onion Tart, which was excellent. For his main, he had the Lemon Sole. It was very good, but the Salt in the coating was a bit excessive. For dessert we split the Profiteroles, always an excellent choice. If they had the Beef Bourguignon or the Skate Wing, the meal would have been exceptional.
Very good, but not super exciting, French food. Service was excellent. Noise level wws also fine, though it was not particularly crowded the Friday evening we were there.
There were not many people in the restaurant when we ate there. There were some shortcomings: one of our party was brought a dish different from the one ordered. Another person ordered the cod beignets, but it was not correctly prepared. Instead of being mashed and blended with other ingredients, it was basically just fried pieces of cod - cod served as fish and chips.
It’s not what I expected. I got roasted chicken which tastes like one that I can get from supermarket. It’s dry and simple. Not a fancy restaurant. If you are looking for French, this is not one of it. I would say this is more American side.
As a Parisian, I can attest that it is an Excellent French brasserie... with some originality
Had never been to this location but enjoyed their Chicago venue in years past. Food was uneven: tasty fish, moderately soggy frites. Waiter forgot our appetizers, apologized and then comped desserts. They certainly tried so “A” for effort. But as this was a special occasion, we would have much preferred it go on without a glitch. Desserts were very good!!
Visited for restaurant week. The Bouillabaisse did not contain lobster as the menu listed. The food overall tasted good and the dessert sampler was great.
The mashed potatoes tasted like they were from a box and peas were not too exciting (tasted like thawed frozen peas). I do not expect to go back
We went for restaurant week, I pick the bouillabase for my dish. This is the first time I had a bouillabase
dish that only had 2 ingredients(mussels & fish). I know it's restaurant week special but a bit disappointed with the dish. We had to spent an extra $30 for parking too. Not worth the trip next time.
We came for the skate wings...only the skate wings as you are the only place in the area to have them.
Our waiter told us they had sold out 30 minutes prior too our order. I was very disappointed. and ordered other "stuff." I asked for a rain check jokingly to our waiter, who was lovely.
love home away from home
The mussels are fantastic
The Vichysoisse was terrible. It tasted like glue. The frisee sald on the side of the tarte was to tart to eat.
I was staying in the hotel so it was convenient...nothing special.
Nice food. A bit of an eclectic higher-end dishes to choose from. I would recommend. The $15 parking fee was a bit much, but it's Boston - still cheaper than an uber.
The food was delicious--especially the dessert. We have been to Brasserie Jo many times and have enjoyed it always. Looking forward to going again soon.
Excellent meal and fine service.
great overall experience at this Back Bay favorite. Service was superb and the food was excellent. Terrific appetizers and the entrees were cooked perfectly. This restaurant should be on everyone's must do list when in Boston. It delivers time after time outstanding service coupled with a most creative array of appetizers and entrees.
We celebrated Bastille Day after an afternoon at Fenway Park. The service was attentive but not invasive. My salmon was mouth watering. My husbands steak was as well. We loved the wine selection our waiter provided too. Its a nice place to dine if you are near Copley Square.
Superb! Always superb.
My wife and I frequent Brasserie Jo's and we've never been disappointed. Great food, great service.
It was a nice experience.
Their service and food are really professional.
It was a fairly empty night and they seated us directly next to another couple. While at first I was frustrated, the couple seated next to us were very interesting and we wound up having a full discussion. The wait staff were amazing, and the dessert(chocolate mouse) was stellar. Unfortunately the dessert was the only amazing food that evening. Overall a great place in a great location. Just don’t expect 5 star food.
Very poor service. Food was deficient for the cost. Will not repeat.
Inattentive serving staff. Threw our plates on the table and left. He never cared to come back, until he was ready to ask if we were ordering dessert. Not sure why but even after I signalled for attention, another more visible waiter would rather chit chat with another table for 5 minutes than coming to find out what we need. It seems to be their culture to attend to favored lunch parties only and for unclear reason we weren't among them.
Father’s Day dinner
We had a lovely dinner at Brassiere Jo's. The cocktails were delicious - especially the French 75!!! All our apps and entrees were delicious. Highly recommended!!!!
Food and service are always wonderful!
A varied menu with something for everyone. The server was excellent and each time we go, the servers are excellent. The food is delicious and the chef does a wonderful presentation. We go to Brasserie Joe whenever we get a chance. A must try!
Food was served quickly as we had to attend a concert. Food was good but entrees were not hot enough. Server was pleasant and efficient.
It was nice revisiting this old friend. It was nearly a perfect night—the food and staff were great! I won’t be waiting so long to return!
We ate here because it was close to our hotel. We really liked the bread, a sign that it was late and we were hungry. We were pleased with all our food.
We recommended it to some colleagues the following evening and they too enjoyed it.
Friends were in town for a college reunion and we were going to Pops following dinner. Brasserie Jo is a short walk to Symphony Hall, so very convenient location. I am familiar with Brasserie Jo and knew that people would not be disappointed with my choice of restaurant. They weren't disappointed!!
I love BJ - one of my favorite restaurants - full stop - reliable - great preparation - always great service - a gem - spacious too. If you mention a need to get to a show - they will make it happen.
