Brasserie Française Chez Jules
Le Pain Béni restaurant has undergone a recent metamorphosis into its present form, Brasserie Française Chez Jules.
At Chez Jules, you will eperience a true French Brasserie where the decor, the recipes, and the service all meticulously respect tradition with the utmost attention to detail.
At Chez Jules, it is still the same wonderful team that has lead Le Pain Béni to its success and they, once again, are ready to carry out this new adventure. A classic cuisine, a professional service, rigorous, attentive and pretention-free.
At Brasserie Françcaise Chez Jules, its reassuring traditional cuisine along with its estate wines will undoubtedly charm you!
I made a reservation for 5 at Chez Jules to celebrate my brother’s 77th birthday. The waiter showed us to a very nice table where we could enjoy our conversation. We began with cocktails and wine. Then we ordered appetizers including carrot soup, French onion soup, smoked salmon, & Brie cheese tart. We thought each one was very good and the presentation beautiful.
For our main course, we ordered sole meunière, roasted sea bream, braised beef cheeks a la Bourguignonne, and confit duck leg, My sister loved the duck leg. I thought the sea bream was delicious as did my sister-in-law. My brother enjoyed the beef cheeks that were prepared perfectly. The sole too was nicely prepared.
Because we were able to enjoy a leisure evening, everyone ordered dessert. Creme brûlée, crispy chocolate ganache, Paris Brest, Floating Island and assorted sorbets. The sorbets were refreshing after a large meal. Each of the family found their dessert excellent.
We travel frequently and eat out often. I would highly recommend this restaurant to locals and tourists. The waiter was so attentive and entertaining. My brother and sister-in-law live in Quebec, and they said the food was some of the best they’ve had in a long time.
Outstanding food and value and for me the best overall restaurant in Quebec City we ate at. There are a lot of very good options but this stood out as outstanding.
Great place ! Would go back while visiting Quebec - great martinis!
Excellent service and great food. Celebrated birthday dinner at this restaurant from Mississauga, Ontario
Lovely brassiere in a great old Quebec location. Highlights of our meal: salad lardons with poached egg and foie gras on apple compote.
We had a reservation for 6:30pm and they were accomodating with our request to dine early. We were seated by the window which made it more intimate and romantic. The food was amazing. I ordered the striped bass fillet flambeed and chocolate lava cake for dessert. The food was beautifully presented. The service was amazing. We enjoyed our dining experience.
Great service and excellent food. Highly recommend it.
The only nice thing I can say about the restaurant is that we had a decent glass of wine.
Fun place! Great service! Food was delicious. Will return.
Perfect evening. Thanks
The food, service and atmosphere were perfect for our group of six. An excellent choice!
There were 6 of us on Saturday night during Winter Carnival. Everything was exceptional. The striped bass was the best piece of fish I had put in my mouth in years...and I eat a lot of fish! The restaurant was full but service remained great.
From Washington DC and Truly enjoyed dinner with my friends
Well-executed classics and more in a very Quebec setting.
Inside the walls of Quebec's Old City, you're going to pay more, but Chez Jules really delivers and I felt the value was solid. Great atmosphere, with very professional, unobtrusive service complementing a fantastic meal. From crispy bread, soft butter and cornichon to start, to a floating cloud and grandma's chocolate mousse to seal a very solid dining experience. In-between, it was duck confit (why is this so hard to find in the US?) and an incredible hunk of lamb in a thick demi-glace based sauce. I thought back to my cooking years and reminisced about the actual time that goes into food like this...some of this stuff has ingredients that were started days ago, applied here in a crescendo of deliciousness
Go here. Go nuts. Eat well, laugh and enjoy a fantastic example of the Quebec food scene.
Went on New Year's day. Staff was helpful and food was great Would go again.
Fantastic food and even better service! What a gem of a find!!!
We go to Chez Jules every time we come to Quebec. Outstanding bistrot food.
Alles fein .sehr leckere brasserie
Went on an off season Wednesday night, room full of local people. Braised beef cheeks with demi-glace tender, intense sauce. Cassoulet was Wednesday night special, simply brilliant. Definitely recommend and would return.
Wonderful dinner, great service, reasonable priced. We would definitely eat there again
My husband and I had lunch at Chez Jules during our trip to Quebec. We were seated immediately upon arrival at a nice table by the window. The lunch menu is well-priced with a nice variety. We both enjoyed the leak soup and Croque Monsieur sandwiches. Service was very good considering how busy the restaurant was. This was a nice finish to our 10-day Canadian trip.
Great food. Lunch menu is an exceptional value.
Two top table in far back corner has ugly view into the kitchen. Kills the ambience. Should cover with something attractive. Food was very good making it all quite alright.
Great restaurant...can’t wait to go back!
The food was very mediocre, nothing special and I don’t recommend it.
Wonderful food and service at Chez Jules! We loved our dinner there and will definitely go back.
A rainy, damp evening called for a comforting meal found at Chez Jules I had filet of sole with sides of carrots & garlic beans. We topped off the meal with crepes suzette flambe and a floating meringue island!
Experience and food were mediocre. Quebec old town restaurants are for tourists and for the most part not very good. Best meals in Quebec City were outside of tourist area.
We love classic french bistro food and looked forward to finding a place in Quebec that would meet our expectations. Chef Jules did that and more. We had several great meals on our trip but Chef Jules was our favorite. We went for lunch and we were so pleased that we went back the next day for dinner.
Good food and service
Had a very average dining experience.
Excellent frog legs and cocktails. Convenient to walking and sightseeing.
Outstanding food! Some of the best food I have ever had. Unique flavors.
We went there last week. We are from the Boston area. Loved it! Best food we had in Quebec, and we went to several other top restaurants. I had the pork chop. Unbelievably good.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this deserves it. It is too bad because the food was actually good - not great. Our reservation was early in the evening while the restaurant was filling in. Yet, we had to wait forever for service, our food was late, and others who had been seated well after us were receiving food before us. The amount of time we had to wait for our meals was aggravating and unexplainable.
On top of that the waiter dripped salad dressing on my wife when serving us, and rudely didn’t even apologize when my wife visibly took notice to something being spilled on her dress. Additionally, the server dropped one of two escargot utensils, and literally looked at us and said - well you only need one anyway.
We chose this restaurant because of the good reviews, to celebrate a very special anniversary. There are plenty of other nice restaurants with better service and good food in Quebec. In fact, we found that the least expensive meal we had in Quebec, served the best food with the friendliest wait staff and fastest service! This was at the Asian restaurant at the port which is in its 28th year!
In defense of Jules - I have learned there is a shortage of restaurant help in Quebec.
Perhaps our experience at Jules was because we ‘only’ spent $60ish on a bottle of wine. Or - maybe just a bad night for the wait staff.
Give it a try and be honest with your reviews. I rely SO heavily on opentable reviews. I wish that other people would have been more honest in their reviews or we caught our waiter on a better night.
Anniversary but no one noticed that we put that in our open table reservation or asked about it.
Fantástico el ambiente y la comida
OUTSTANDING! The food is incredible and so is the service.
A great restaurant with a great choice of delicious dishes. The service was tops. I highly recommend Chez Jules. Don't hesitate one second. Go there for a fabulous dinner; you will love it!
Excellent food and staff. The reasons I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 are mostly external ones, i.e. not entirely this restaurant's faults.
My wife and I dined inside (there were outside tables as well) on a busy summer Saturday evening, which was fine for people watching on the pedestrian street through the wide-open windows. But, on the other hand, we were annoyed by the street musicians playing an endless medley of unwanted songs on the same street, and the lights inside attracted flies and other bugs from outside. Occasional cigarette smoke also made us unhappy.
We could accept and even enjoy such circumstances if this were a far more casual dining place, for instance in a beach resort. Preferably not in the case of a French restaurant in the central Upper Town of Old Quebec.
