Brasserie by Niche
Came here to celebrate my sister's graduation and was thoroughly disappointed. For one, food took forever - after we had been seated at our table for over an HOUR, we were only served our appetizers. I had to follow up with our server on the status of our entrees no less than 3 times, and by the time food finally came out, IT WAS COLD. By that time, the cheese on my mac and cheese had congealed and my fries were no longer crispy. Very disappointed in the quality of the food and our server. The only redeeming factor was that at the end of the evening, someone (not our server) came out and apologized for the evening and fully comp'd our meal.
Spot on, every time. Comforting cuisine is expertly prepared, and the service is always friendly and gracious. Kudos to Alexa, our server, who helped make the experience even nicer
Phenomenal service recovery!
I don’t usually write OpenTable reviews but feel compelled to do so this time by the outstanding service recovery experience I had at Brasserie by Niche.
I dined alone at the end of a long work trip. I had been working nights, so although I showed up at 930pm, I was not in a hurry. I ordered a drink, a salad, and steak frites. The drink and bread came out pretty quickly, and I started reading a book. I didn’t really pay too much attention to the time but after awhile I did start to notice the pace of meal delivery was on the slow side and that the tables around me were also waiting on their orders.
A little while after I noticed the delay, because of the wait, I was offered a refill on the excellent sparkling wine I had ordered. The farm salad that I had ordered came out and was very nicely done. I then waited a while longer and was offered a plate of gougères, which were a tasty puff pastry made w gruyere cheese. The friendly server, Alexa, came over and explained that the steak I had ordered would be delayed a bit longer and offered me a third glass of sparkling wine. We talked a bit about why I was in St. Louis and I assured her that I was in no hurry.
The steak came out shortly thereafter and was one of the better steak frites that I’ve had. Really, it could not have been much better. When it came time to pay, I temporarily thought that I had either forgotten or had lost my wallet, and started to panic from sheer embarrassment.
No matter, after I explained my situation to Alexa she told me it was ok, because they were going to comp my steak anyway due to the delays, and she would talk to her manager and likely comp my entire check. Luckily, I found my wallet shortly after that. I offered to pay whatever I owed and was very politely rebuffed; they had decided to waive my entire bill!
The food was great; the service was just a little slow but was vastly outdone by the great service recovery. I’ll be back!
The atmosphere is phenomenal, and the food is unbeatable. The service was excellent, and we were able to enjoy a beautiful night on the patio!
Mother’s Day. Food was all fabulous and tried three desserts!
We made a reservation on mother’s Day for a date night (a mistake on my end overlooking the fact they’d be very busy). They were a half hour late to seat us but they did nothing but make up for it afterwords. Gave us a free cheese plate for being patient, the trout was excellent, all the food was excellent. Once we were seated the staff was way more genuine and friendly than a lot of places. Great experience once we were seated. Definitely recommend.
Incredible food and service!!!
They tried. Service was great. Food was meh. Had a 730p dinner reservation and we were seated on time. We ordered our appetizer, salads/soup and entrees at the same time. Appetizer and salad and soup came out in a timely manner and were fine. Dinner didnt come out until close to 9pm. My friend ordered the chicken and it was great. I ordered the bistro steak medium and it was well done. Came with fries which were cold. And the steak comes pre sliced in medallions covered in sauce which was surprising. Never had a presliced steak that wasnt advertised as a tenderloin or something. The waitress was nice and noticed that I didnt eat any of it and took it off the bill. Looked like she mustve taken our soup, salad, and drinks off the bill too. I told her that she didnt need to do that and she mentioned she wished I had told her the meal wasnt satisfactory. I wasnt trying to make a big deal and after waiting almost 90 minutes for overdone steak and cold fries I wasnt wanting to wait even longer for a replacement. We asked just to have the check, which she brought. And then she brought out spoons and said a complimentary dessert was coming since it was my friends birthday but he had already left by this point and I was sitting waiting for the check so I just left. It used to be one of our favorite places but we were disappointed and underwhelmed. Doubt we would ever come back
Great business-casual atmosphere with amazing food and drinks. The food was wonderfully prepared and tasty. The wine/spirits list was big enough to have variety but not so big that it was overwhelming. The waitstaff was courteous and knowledgeable. Lovely evening!
Two of us split the trout plat and added a small bibb salad. Excellent. The other ordered the fresh veggie salad which was excellent and the muscles which were aittle overcooked and tastless and the garlic bread was board-like. Not my best meal here. Wines were excellent (Chardonnay snd Cote-d’-Rhone). Service was attentive, intelligent and timely. A little noisy by the end of our early meal but not bothersome. This is one of our favorite places. The valet parking in this location is a helpful plus.
Brasserie is my absolute favorite restaurant in STL. so, yes, I recommend it to EVERYONE!!!!!
Amazing service, they went to great lengths to make our special occasion one to remember!
WE had a friend from out of town with us. It was a perfect spring night and we were so glad we chose Brasserie as the place to take her to dinner.
My wife absolutely loved her meal, specifically the salad. The roasted chicken was fantastic.
Always enjoy this place. The food is wonderful. Last night the service was above and beyond. Thank, we'll be back!
Delicious food and wonderful, attentive service. We love dinner at Brasserie.
Noisy, expensive for what one received. No moderate wine prices by the bottle. Service was poor, waiter kept forgetting about us. Food was cold. All and all a subpar experience. Meh!
Service was awesome! Wish we remembered our server’s name because he was wonderful. The braised beef was a homer in - highly recommend it.
We love Brasserie. Food is always delicious. The waitress we had this time wasn’t as friendly or accommodating, but the rest of the staff was wonderful, as usual. Will continue to go back again and again.
I enjoyed the whole evening and the food was fresh and authentic. Great wines. The dessert was fabulous
It was Easter evening . My husband was sick and could not come.
The restaurant was not full and they seated us at the very back of the restaurant next to the wall.
A perfect date restaurant, particularly as the weather warms. By the end of the evening, our server felt like a friend. We'll be back.
Our biggest disappoint was that the delivery of the different courses was slow and sporadic. For instance, one of us ordered a salad and that came fairly quickly. Three of us ordered soup and that probably came close to a half and hour later. That was representative of what happened between each course. It even took a noticeable time for the bill to come. On the positive side, the food was delicious when it did come.
Always very pleasant.
Everything good said in the reviews was true! I grew up in STL and wanted to go someplace new but in a favorite place, the Central West End. Food was dynamite, creative, substantial, adventurous but classic. We had this amazingly different walleye dish, the shaved veggie salad and their roasted chicken. Wine by the glass selections very good and they let us taste 2 to find the right one. An extra bonus is parking is free after 7 so no worries there either.
Brasserie simply has the best food and service in town!
Drinks, food and service all very good. Kitchen was slow to get good out on a not so busy night Waited over 45 minutes for entrees. On a weekday that’s really slow for some scallops.
This is one my favorite St Louis restaurants. The cheese puff appetizers are fabulous.
Entrees were delicious
Desserts were not so good, dry and not what we expected
7:30 reservations and did not get seated until 8:15.
Service was poor. Waiter took forever to bring 1st course and worse for main course. Then trying to pay was terrible
It took more than half an hour after our scheduled reservation time for us to be seated.
My favorite restaurant....always wonderful food with a great atmosphere!
We went to Brasserie for a milestone birthday. The place was packed and loud. The kind of loud where it's hard to hear the person sitting across from you. But if you can live with that, the food is fabulous. We enjoyed the gougeres. My daughter and I both had a burger - delicious - one of the best in town. My wife had the veggie tart, which was baked in a phyllo crust. She loved it. My daughter's friend had the steak and said it was great. We also had several desserts. The chocolate mousse had a strong chocolate flavor. The 'floating island' is a meringue dessert that sits in a caramel/vanilla sauce. You MUST order this treat at least once. It is light and delicious. Highly recommended.
The food was exceptional. We found the ambiance a little loud and crowded.
I ordered the vegetarian tart. When it arrived and they smelled the fragrance of the sage and the vegetables together I was extremely excited. However, after two bites I realized it was so salty I could not eat it and had to send it back. The waiter was extremely understanding and replaced it with Trout. That route was flavorless. The brussels sprouts dominated the plate, and I was hoping for something that had a more compatible flavor to go with the trout.
I have been coming to brasserie Since they opened, and, it is the first time I can say I’ve been really disappointed.
I really feel as if the menu needs some creativity.
Had a wonderful dinner here after an afternoon symphony concert. The entire party thoroughly enjoyed themselves; the food was wonderful, the service was wonderful, and we can't wait to back!!
As always, this place brings me back to my European roots, with outstanding service an pallet delicious dishes.
Meal was very good. Cafe Provencal is just a little better
Great place for any special occasion, the food is great and so is the service. My only complaint is that this place is loud. The tables are squeezed closely together and my girlfriend and I could easily hear the conversation going on at the table next to us.
Dinner was excellent. We were on a tight schedule and the servers were very respectful of our time, even giving us suggestions of cook times for select entrees. The French Onion soup is always tasty and the trout melted in my mouth. Another pleasant evening at a St. Louis classic restaurant.
